U.S. telecommunications giant Verizon has expanded its National Football League (NFL) content offering to include an interactive co-viewing experience that allows groups of fans to watch live games together through its Yahoo Sports app.

New Watch Together viewing option will allow up to four users, one host and three guests, to communicate via a synchronized live video feed to their mobile devices and will debut at the opening of the Chiefs’ 2020/21 season of Kansas City against the Houston Texans on September 10.

In addition to the co-viewing experience, Yahoo Sports enhances its Game Center experience by incorporating an augmented reality (AR) feature that allows users to watch graphical reruns of major NFL games in near real time, including Player Tracking Next Gen Stats Data.

Live NFL mobile-only content from Yahoo Sports includes in-market and domestic games through the regular and post-season, as well as the Super Bowl. In addition to the Yahoo Sports app, Yahoo Fantasy Sports app, and AOL app, Yahoo Mail users will also have access to live NFL content. A brand new Videos tab on the Yahoo Mail iOS and Android app will deliver Verizon’s NFL feeds through user inboxes.

In addition to Verizon Media’s mobile properties, local and prime-time live games will also be available for free on NFL mobile properties, including the NFL app and the NFL Fantasy app, as well as websites and franchise mobile applications for their respective games.

Verizon’s addition of Watch Together is free and follows similar concepts introduced by UK broadcasters Sky Sports and BT Sport when live Premier League football resumed after the lockdown.

“Watch Together is the result of the innovative spirit of Verizon Media and the NFL to deliver next-generation experiences that build connection and community,” said Guru Gowrappan, CEO of Verizon Media.

“By leveraging Verizon Media’s ecosystem, technology and streaming capabilities, we have the unique ability to create powerful and immersive entertainment experiences of the future like no other. ”

The start of the season also sees Amazon Web Services – which provides its Next Gen stats to the NFL as part of a deal signed in 2017 – introduce new information for use by teams, players, broadcasters and fans. .

New innovations include: expected runoff sites; route classification, which identifies players’ routes in real time; expected points; probability of winning; expected yards after capture; and the probability of field goal.
