Variety of sporting events on the program of the Offaly festival

SPORTS events have always been part of the Birr Vintage Week program and this year is no different with a variety of different events lined up during the week.

It’s a preview of what’s on offer around Birr next week.

Birr Athletics Club 5k Run/Walk/Jog

Friday 29 July at Birr Rugby Club at 7:30 p.m.

Round eight of the Offaly Road Race series. Registration at Birr Rugby Club 6pm or online

Hurling Festival

Saturday July 30 on the Birr GAA pitch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

St Brendan’s Park will host a ‘Festival of Hurling’ with U-7, U-9 and U-11 level teams in a variety of tournaments. Come see our stars of the future in green and red.

Inaugural Vintage Cup

Saturday July 30 and Sunday July 31 at the Birr Golf Club

Birr Golf Club presents an all new 18 hole Open Stableford competition. Open to ladies and gentlemen. Category awards with vintage attire encouraged. €10 for members, €25 for visitors. Booking – or (057) 91 20082.

Mixed Tag Rugby Tournament

Saturday July 30 at Birr Rugby Club at 2 p.m.

Gather your team for a great day of fun, excitement and rugby! Each team can have up to 10 players with a minimum of three female players. Free BBQ afterwards for all players.

€100 per team. 10 players per team. 16 and over

family fun day

Saturday July 30 at Birr Town FC at 2 p.m.

Games and BBQ followed by our presentation of Birr Town FC miners and veterans medals against Highfield United veterans.


Swimming gala

Wednesday 3 August at the Birr Leisure Center from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

From 7 years old: 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Free public bath: 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. (Registration from 1:15 p.m.)
