US striker Ricardo Pepi says Augsburg are taking a worthy risk

By Sports games

One of American striker Ricardo Pepi’s biggest challenges since arriving in Germany has been convincing people why he chose to join relegation-threatened Augsburg.

Pepi, 19, who was arguably MLS’s brightest prospect after scoring 13 goals for FC Dallas last season, surprised many in early January when he moved to Augsburg, a relatively unspectacular club that has mostly finished in the bottom half of the Bundesliga since first being promoted in 2011.

This season is proving to be another chore for the Bavarian club. Markus Weinzierl’s side have won just one of their last eight league games and currently sit in the relegation playoff spot with 11 games remaining.

“In life you took risks, and it was a risk I took so that I could come to Augsburg and be able to help the team,” Pepi told reporters in an online video call this week. .

The player was set to join Volkswagen-backed Wolfsburg, who qualified for the Champions League last season, while Liverpool and Manchester United are also said to be interested. Some thought Bayern Munich might have been an option due to the Bavarian powerhouse’s partnership with FC Dallas.

But Pepi landed Augsburg, who broke their transfer record to sign the then 18-year-old for more than 13 million euros ($14.8 million) plus potential additions, the highest fee for a transfer of a local American player from MLS. .

Many of the questions Pepi faced on the call were about the reasons behind his switch.

”Its a question of confidence. Augsburg obviously they made the big transfer because they have faith in me and they wanted me to come to the team, and obviously I had to take that into consideration,” said Pepi, who said other clubs had expressed interest without reaching any agreement. with FC Dallas.

“I was planning to stay in MLS for about a year or two. But out of nowhere Augsburg spoke to my agent, spoke to FC Dallas and decided to make an offer,” Pepi said. called and he said to me: ‘Hey, what do you think of Augsburg, like FC Augsburg?’ And I was like, ‘You know what? They’re a great team.” Pepi said he and his agent spoke about the risks involved, especially in a World Cup year — the striker has three goals in nine appearances for the United States — and he also discussed the transfer with his parents.

”We all agreed that Augsburg was going to be a great opportunity for me and that’s the next step. We are talking about the next stage of my career. We felt that the Bundesliga was definitely a step I wanted to take,’ Pepi said.

He said he spoke with his national teammates Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and Gio Reyna about their experiences in Germany, and they convinced him that the Bundesliga was ideal for his development.

”It’s just faster. Everything is more dynamic, everything is more intense, in every game, in every training,” said Pepi. “In the United States, I remember we had sessions where they were a little lighter because it would be game day in two days. But here, every day, we train intensely and we are always ready to go. So far, the transition has been difficult. Pepi is yet to score in five league games – one draw and four defeats. But he is not worried about his scoring drought.

“I came to this team for a reason and it’s for my development and obviously it was a big transfer,” Pepi said. “But now, you know, being in the team, I feel more comfortable with each passing week. So to be patient, but also really looking forward to scoring my first goal.” Augsburg will then host the unpredictable Borussia Dortmund on Sunday Second-placed Dortmund routed Borussia Mönchengladbach last weekend but are also capable of losing 5-2 at home to Bayer Leverkusen, as they lost 4-2 at home to Rangers in the Europa League last week Dortmund were due to play the second leg in Glasgow on Thursday.

“My family is going to be in town, so it’s going to be a bit different,” Pepi said of visiting Dortmund on Sunday. “So hopefully I can get something.”

Eileen Gu’s choice for China is paying off…for now

By Sports games

When Eileen Gu won Olympic gold in the Big Air, sales of her red Anta ski suit, featuring slip-reducing technology, increased 20 times on Chinese e-commerce platform JD.com. Luckin Coffee sold all Gu-endorsed beverages, with a spike in Gu-branded cup holders, and the Chinese chain immediately said it would launch more Gu-related products throughout the year.

The San Francisco-born skier won a silver medal in Tuesday’s slopestyle final, earning more praise on Chinese social media for redeeming herself on a third jump after an earlier mistake. With another gold medal still in sight, his carefully considered decision to compete for China appears to be paying off, at least commercially.

Already the most popular athlete on the Chinese team, the model and new Stanford student is endorsed by two dozen brands, from French luxury conglomerate Louis Vuitton to Chinese sportswear maker Anta. His global endorsements include Estee Lauder, Victoria’s Secret, Tiffany & Co and Oakley, all of which have targeted the Chinese market in recent years.

Her growing popularity in China could propel her into the ranks of the world’s highest-earning athletes if she can continue to avoid major controversy. Michael Payne, former chief marketing officer for the International Olympic Committee, cited China’s goal of involving 300 million people in winter sports when he described the opportunity for Gu as unprecedented.

“If you look at the most successful athletes like Michael Phelps, I think we were talking about winning up to $100 million…there’s no doubt that if she keeps winning the gold medals, she’ll be in the same league.” Winter Olympians, who compete in niche sports, generally lag behind their summer counterparts in purchasing power. Exceptions include snowboarder Shaun White, who earned $8 million in 2009 at his peak and $1.5 million in the 12 months leading up to the Beijing Games, according to Forbes.

GU-MANIA Gu’s looks, sporting achievements, dual citizenship appeal, and power as an influencer put her on a level all her own.

Following its Big Air freeskiing gold medal, Tiffany & Co started making headlines on Chinese social media after removing its Anta gloves to reveal four rings that netizens quickly identified as being made by the jeweler owned by LVMH, which Gu approves of. Chinese media has been buzzing with speculation about Gu’s endorsements, with the Beijing News reporting his fees at $2.5 million after tax and total revenue from brand deals over the past year at more than $100 million. yuan, citing industry sources. Media outlet Tianxiashangwang estimated that Gu’s earnings since the start of 2021 exceeded 200 million yuan ($31.5 million).

His agent Tom Yaps did not respond to a request for comment. Gu ticks several boxes in China with her image as a model student and pride in her decision to compete for her mother’s country of birth, said Bryce Whitwam, assistant professor of marketing at NYU in Shanghai.

“She’s extraordinarily charismatic and her attraction to Chinese culture and just the fact that she came to China to want to be Chinese, that’s a huge win for her,” he said, describing the “Gu- Chinese mania. TRAPS

With his carefully worded responses, which avoid directly addressing questions about his citizenship, and the Beijing-accented Mandarin that charmed many, Gu managed to avoid controversy during the Games, despite some grumbling online according to which she leads a life of privilege inaccessible to most. Hu Xijin, a prominent columnist for the Communist Party-run Global Times, suggested on Sunday that because Gu might end up choosing US citizenship, she should be encouraged as a member of the Chinese team, not as a as a patriotic symbol.

“She brings happiness to the Chinese public, so there is no shame in seeking commercial return,” Hu wrote. “But political elements should be minimized as much as possible. It’s risky for Gu Ailing to be that kind of vector,” he said. Unlike her gravity-defying ski tricks, Gu’s public persona is low-risk: she supports Black Lives Matter but avoids questions about human rights in China, instead portraying herself as a bridge builder and a global ski ambassador.

“Eileen did a great job making sure she didn’t say the wrong thing, but you know what? You’re going to get it wrong sometimes,” Whitwam said. Gu’s earning power in the two countries could be dampened by heightened bilateral tensions.

Her decision to compete for China has drawn criticism in the United States, while in China she must navigate what has been tightened celebrity surveillance, with many stars canceled by authorities after missteps. “It could be a simple Tweet, it could be a very simple mistake and they’ll scrub it from any type of coverage like they’ve done with many other Chinese celebrities,” Whitwam said. ($1 = 6.3551 Chinese yuan renminbi)

The death of Libor – The Royal Gazette

By Sports events

Creation: 08 Feb. 2022 07:57

More than a month into the new year, financial institutions in Bermuda are still considering what to do to replace Libor, a major component set to be phased out of use in rate setting at the end of 2021. ‘interest.

The Bermuda Bankers Association said individual banks will implement the new benchmark rate through confidential consultations with the Bermuda Monetary Authority as part of the BMA’s prudential oversight process.

Association CEO Thomas J. O’Rourke said, “Our main challenge as an industry will be educating borrowers on benchmark rate changes and their impact on the pricing of their loan facility. respectively.

“When I see constructive industry advice from official sources like the Federal Reserve, I will post it on our website and social media.”

For more than four decades until the end of the year, the London Interbank Offered Rate (Libor) was the benchmark used by banks to set the interest rates they charged on financial products such as loans adjustable rates, mortgages and corporate debt.

Mr O’Rourke said the phasing out of Libor is an issue they have been following through the BBA’s risk sub-committee.

He said: “While final replacement decisions rest with individual banks and the final elimination of US dollar Libor is not until June 2023, we find that the Federal Reserve Bank – Secured Overnight Funding Rate (SOFR) is currently the main replacement rate for the United States.

“As the majority of the Bermuda banking sector’s foreign exchange assets are in US dollars, banks will be seeking regulatory guidance on the transition to SOFR as they move towards the final break from US dollar Libor.”

The Libor was used in a wide range of financial products in all major currencies.

But his days were numbered after he featured prominently in a series of banking scandals dating back to the 2007/2008 financial crisis.

Regulators and public and private sector working groups in several jurisdictions were considering how to support a transition to alternative tariffs and develop new products that reference them.

HSBC Bank Bermuda warned customers on its website: “The reforms may impact the HSBC products and services you currently use and those we may provide in the future.”

The bank also stresses that its website messaging reflects HSBC’s understanding of the reforms from January 2022 and that customers should contact their professional advisers about the possible implications of the changes, such as financial, legal, accounting or tax consequences. .

Butterfield Bank’s web notification says it was using the 2021 transition period to engage with customers, who have credit or loan agreements that incorporate adjustable interest rates and the benchmark Libor as a benchmark.

The bank stopped issuing credit agreements that use Libor as the sole benchmark interest rate and switched customers to other benchmark rates. But he acknowledged that it was an evolutionary process.

The way the Libor was determined is part of the reason for his disgrace.

Eighteen global banks around the world were each allowed to determine their expected rate payable to a competitor to borrow from them in the interbank lending market in London – not what the rate was, but what each bank said it believed the other bank would charge them.

Suitably handicapped, the average would only be determined after the four highest numbers and the four lowest numbers were discarded.

But individual banks could display any number. This led to scandals and allegations of rate manipulation.

Financial problems in 2008 were said to have been indirectly linked, and later a 2012 Libor investigation revealed widespread manipulation and collusion.

United States.

“We are so far behind because we don’t have player representation like the Players Association and collective bargaining and all those things,” he told reporters after the first round at the Saudi International. , where he fired a three-under par 67 at trail leader Matteo Manassero by five shots. Mickelson told Golf Digest that players have little incentive to innovate because only the PGA Tour can benefit from the current arrangement.

“For me personally, it’s not enough that they’re sitting on hundreds of millions of digital moments. They also have access to my snaps, access that I don’t have,” he said, according to the magazine’s website. “They also charge companies to use the shots I hit. And when I did ‘The Match’ – there were five (exhibitions) – the tour made me pay them 1 million dollars every time. For my own media rights. This type of greed is, to me, beyond abhorrent.”

Players assign their media rights to the PGA Tour upon joining. The PGA Tour told Reuters it had no comment on Mickelson’s remarks, which come as former world number one Greg Norman leads a quest to create a rival Super Golf League (SGL) backed by the Fund. Saudi investment.

“If I had access to my own channel and access to my own media, I would have a camera and a microphone on my hat,” Mickelson said. “And I would bring in viewers. They would see and hear what was going on. But none of that happens because why would a player do that? To earn more millions for the tour? They earn enough already.

“The tour only includes leverage. And now the players are taking advantage of it.”

The American sports website is promoting the next Super Bowl via… Attack on Titans?

By Sports website

American football is cruel and unforgiving, and yet it is also beautiful.

It’s February, which means only one thing for American football fans – it’s getting closer to superbowl Sunday. I’m not ashamed to admit that I know almost nothing about the world of touchdowns and quarterbacks, partly because I’m British and partly because I think the sport is boring, but I’m informed of reliably that the Super Bowl is a very big deal in the world of American football because it is the championship game of the National Football League of the United States.

Until a few days ago, I had absolutely no idea the Super Bowl was near, but thanks to a recent tweet from the American sports news site Launderer’s Report, I not only know when the Super Bowl is going to be, but also which teams will be competing against each other. The tweet in question features familiar images of the anime worldto know The attack of the Titans.

The picture shows Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford facing Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, who is portrayed as a Titan. Some tweets asked why the Cincinnati Bengals were pictured like the Titans in this image, but since the game will take place at the Los Angeles Rams stadium in Sofia Stadiumit’s almost like they’re defending their turf against the Bengals, just like Eren and the gang defended their home against the Titans – hence the title “Attack on SoFi” on the image.

The image isn’t just any old piece of fan art either; it is based on the promotional image from the final season of the anime.

Japanese netizens were all abuzz with Bleacher Report’s imaginative post, which currently has over 57,000 likes.

“Does that mean Attack on Titan is more popular around the world than Squid Game?”
“I didn’t know it was so popular overseas!”
“The fact that over 10 million people are following this account and seeing this is amazing!”
“Invite the creator of the show to the game and install him in the VIP section!”
“I wonder if the live-action movie was popular overseas.”

Overseas fans also had a lot to say about the image, with many commenting on how great it was to see the anime referenced in mainstream media.

“It’s crazy how far the anime has come.”
“Give whoever did this a raise.”
“It’s absolutely amazing.”

A sudden anime-inspired tweet from a major US sports website may seem a little left-wing, but this isn’t the first time Bleacher Report has dipped its toes into the world of anime – watch this NBA/Naruto crossover video they did last year.

The Super Bowl takes place on February 13, and while it’s great to see AoT being referenced, we have to hope the references stop there. I’ve already admitted to not being too familiar with the ins and outs of American football, but I’m pretty sure it’s against the rules to eat your opponents.

Mom was awesome: Azarenka in 4th round at Australian Open

By Sports games

Before Victoria Azarenka had a chance to analyze the two players she could meet next, her son was asked about the third-round performance of the two-time Australian Open champion.

Five-year-old Leo, wearing his sunglasses in the press conference room and sitting on his mother’s lap, replied succinctly, “Awesome!” Thanks, kid.

Azarenka’s highlights in her 6-0, 6-2 victory over 15th seed Elina Svitolina on Friday included “the amount of aggression I could bring point after point, applying a lot of pressure, the consistency. The breakpoints I faced, I played really hard.” “Yes, take control of my side of the pitch,” she added. “I think that’s what I’m happiest about.” She will next face French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova, who rallied after a set and loss to 26th seed Jelena Ostapenko to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 and advance to the fourth round in singles at Melbourne Park for the first time. The 24th-seeded Azarenka, who won the title at Melbourne Park in 2012 and 2013 and was a three-time US Open runner-up, is in the fourth round here for the first time since 2016 after extending her record of 5-0 win over Svitolina. .

She racked up nearly twice as many winners, 17, as unforced errors, nine, and never faced a break point. Svitolina made mistake after mistake, 26 unforced errors in all.

Since a quarter-final in Australia in 2016, Azarenka has lost first-round matches last year and in 2019, and missed the hard-court tournament in 2017, 2018 and 2020.

The 32-year-old former world No. 1, from Belarus, is feeling comfortable at the moment, fulfilling the dual role of player and mother in Melbourne.

Azarenka was asked if it was more demanding, fun or relaxing to have her son with her on tour.

“All of the above,” she said, laughing, as Krejcikova and Ostapenko played.

“He’s definitely not a distraction, I’d never say that. Parenting isn’t easy. He’s got a lot of personality – I don’t know where he got that from!” Leo flipped his tournament ID on his lanyard as his mother fielded questions from inside the venue and online. He yawned at least once and blew air into the microphone.

“I still feel privileged to be able to have him here,” Azarenka said. “These kinds of moments are really priceless to me. To be able to share that with my son is pretty amazing.” In other results on day five, fifth-seeded Maria Sakkari beat 28th-seeded Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 6-1 to advance to the fourth round against 21st-seeded Jessica Pegula of the United States, who beat Nuria Parrizas Diaz 7-6. (3), 6-2.

Eighth-seeded Paula Badosa advanced with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 win over Marta Kostyuk.

The night session later Friday featured two highly anticipated matchups that could lead to an even bigger one.

Defending champion Naomi Osaka was scheduled to face Amanda Anisimova at Margaret Court Arena, while No. 1 Ash Barty was scheduled to face Camila Giorgi at Rod Laver Arena. The winners of those two matches will meet in a fourth-round match that could look like a Grand Slam final a week earlier if it’s Osaka versus Barty.

Rafael Nadal was set to continue his bid for a record 21st Grand Slam title with a third-round match against No. 28 Karen Khachanov.

Beijing residents disappointed that the Olympics are closed

By Sports games

With just over two weeks to go before the Beijing Winter Olympics open, residents of the Chinese capital say they are disappointed they will not be able to attend the events due to coronavirus restrictions which have seen parts of the city under control. Organizers announced on Monday that no tickets will be sold to the general public and only selected spectators will be allowed. Access to the famous National Stadium, known as the Bird’s Nest, and indoor venues in the heart of Beijing has been cordoned off. Those interviewed on Wednesday seemed to understand the restrictions. Many of them could be seen skating on frozen lakes in Beijing as a sign of continued enthusiasm for winter sports. Since China does not allow any public demonstrations or opinion polls and strictly restricts free speech, any opposition to the Games or the restrictions would be stifled. Chen Lin had planned to buy tickets for the speed skating, but waived his personal concerns about the pandemic and after it became clear that tickets would only be offered to selected spectators. “I went to the Beijing Summer Olympics in 2008. It’s a shame that I can’t watch the Games this time during the Winter Olympics,” the 38-year-old said. “Of course, we can still watch the Games with live broadcast on TV and live online, but that doesn’t provide as much of a sense of engagement as watching the Games on location.” Beijing is the first city to be granted the right to host the Summer and Winter Games. Chen said the level of excitement this year was much lower than in 2008, when the Games sparked a wave of national pride. “For one thing, the Winter Olympics don’t get as much attention as the Summer Olympics. On the other hand, there is also the pandemic. Both are the reasons,” he said. Retired and amateur photographer Wang Syaolan, who volunteered at the 2008 Games, said she hoped to take her camera to events to ‘be a part of it’ ‘But now with management in closed loop, we won’t be able to be there ourselves. It’s a shame,’ Wang said, referring to restrictions separating participants from the general population. The recent appearance of the more contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus in Beijing has heightened concerns about outbreaks, although the capital reported just one new case on Wednesday. Elsewhere in the country, around 20 million people are in some form of lockdown and mass testing has been ordered in entire cities where cases have been found. China has largely avoided major outbreaks with lockdowns, mass testing and travel restrictions, though it continues to battle surges in several cities, including the port of Tianjin, about an hour from Beijing. Restrictions have also been tightened in the city of Anyang in Henan province, south of Beijing, where 29 additional cases of local transmission were reported on Wednesday, out of a national total of 55. Games organizers have previously announced that no fans from outside the country will be allowed. .

The Olympics begin on February 4, just days after the start of Lunar New Year celebrations. Athletes, officials, staff and journalists are required to enter a pandemic bubble without outside contact and undergo daily testing.

As an additional precaution, Beijing will require travelers to take nucleic acid tests within 72 hours of entering the city from Jan. 22. Schools in Beijing also closed early and moved classes online ahead of the winter vacation.

Along with coronavirus concerns, the Games have been plagued by political controversies, including a decision by the United States and its close allies not to send dignitaries to protest China’s treatment of its Uyghur Muslim minority. and other human rights violations. On Tuesday, the athletes were urged by human rights campaigners to avoid criticizing China because they could be prosecuted. The International Olympic Committee said athletes will have freedom of expression when speaking to reporters or posting on social media. However, the Olympic Charter rule that prohibits political protest at medal ceremonies also requires that “applicable public law” be observed.

The IOC has not responded to requests in recent days to clarify how Chinese law might apply to the Games.

Asked about free speech issues at the Olympics, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on Wednesday that China understands the IOC is banning athletes from political protests.

“I would like to reiterate that China invites athletes from all countries to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics and will ensure their safety and convenience,” Zhao told reporters during a daily briefing.

Beijing 2022 official warns of violations of ‘Olympic spirit’

By Sports games

Behavior by athletes that violates the Olympic spirit or Chinese rules could be subject to sanctions, a Beijing 2022 official has said, after rights groups raised concerns about the safety of competitors if they were protesting at next month’s Games.

Rule 50 of the Olympic Charter states that “no form of political, religious or racial demonstration or propaganda is permitted at Olympic venues”, although it was relaxed last year to allow gestures on the ground if done without disturbance and with respect. for competitors. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made it clear that athletes are free to express their opinions on any issue during press conferences and interviews in the Olympic bubble, as long as it is not during competitions or medal ceremonies.

Yang Shu, deputy director general of the Beijing 2022 international relations department, was asked during a virtual briefing on Wednesday about athletes’ concerns if they speak out on rights issues during the Winter Games, which begin February 4. in line with the Olympic spirit, I am sure, will be protected, and any behavior or speech that is contrary to the Olympic spirit, especially Chinese laws and regulations, is also subject to certain penalties,” Yang said.

Cancellation of accreditation is a potential sanction within the guidelines of the organizers’ manual, he said at the event hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Washington. However, the playbook primarily deals with COVID-19 prevention measures and does not address issues such as speaking out or protesting. In previous Olympics, any violation of the Olympic Charter by athletes was handled solely by the IOC.

Yang’s comments came after athletes heading to the Beijing Olympics were warned by speakers at a Human Rights Watch seminar on Tuesday to talk about human rights issues in China, for their own security. Rights groups have long criticized the IOC for awarding the Games to China, citing its treatment of Uyghurs and other Muslim minority groups, which the United States has called genocide. China denies allegations of human rights abuses.

On Tuesday, the IOC said in an email response to a request for comment from Reuters that it “recognizes and upholds human rights as enshrined in both the fundamental principles of the Olympic Charter and in its code of ethics” at all times. Several countries, including the United States, Britain, Japan and Australia, have announced diplomatic boycotts of the Games due to human rights concerns in China.

These Games will include 45 percent female athletes, the largest proportion ever to have competed in the Winter Olympics, in part due to the introduction of more mixed events such as freestyle ski jumps and snowboard cross. Notable Canadian athletes to watch include ice dance duo Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, as well as bobsleigh Cynthia Appiah. On the Paralympic side, notable athletes include Josh Dueck, the first athlete succeed in a backflip on a sit-down ski; Brian McKeever, Canada’s most decorated Paralympian who will retire after the 2022 Games; Ina Forrest, who is aiming for her fourth medal in wheelchair curling; and Billy Bridges, one of Canada’s most accomplished para-ice hockey players, who hopes to lead his team to gold against the top-ranked US team.

The Games were surrounded by controversy due to the human rights violations, namely their detention of Uyghurs, a predominantly Muslim ethnic minority, in the Xinjiang region. Several countries have launched the idea of boycotting the Games, but as it stands, none have officially canceled their participation, nor any competing athlete. Instead, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia have announced a “diplomatic boycott,” where government officials will not attend the Games. As for pandemic restrictions, Chinese authorities plan to host spectators from mainland China who meet vaccine requirements, unlike the Tokyo 2020 Games, which were held in empty stadiums.

Fallout from MLB foreclosure

The Major League Baseball (MLB) offseason is always filled with dramatic deals, exchanges and contract negotiations. But in December 2021, after the Atlanta Braves won their first World Series Title in nearly 30 years, the MLB has imposed a lockout. It comes after a labor dispute between the Players’ Association and league teams, and their disagreement over player salaries and competitive disparities between different teams. During this work stoppage, teams are prohibited from communicating with players, even about simple things like training programs, and players are excluded from training facilities. While the lockout is intended to put pressure on the union to speed up negotiations, the shutdown could extend until the start of the regular season, which is scheduled to begin March 31. Either way, these restrictions will undoubtedly reduce players’ abilities to build a squad. chemistry and properly prepare for the start of the season.

Djokovic’s luck to greatness

The Serbian tennis star walked away with the 2021 Wimbledon title, and this year has the chance to outdo Nadal and Federer for the most Grand Slam tournaments of all time. The big three are tied at 20 apiece, but Djokovic hasn’t been plagued with injuries like the other two, meaning if he can even compete in the Australian Open. Originally unable to enter the country due to his unvaccinated status, and now waiting to see if the Australian government revokes his visa, it’s unclear if he will have the chance to compete for the major title. There is currently an online campaign for #BoycottAustralianOpen in support of Djokovic’s decision not to be vaccinated; on the other hand, many Australian citizens are vs the player flouting the rules and endangering others. Despite his anti-science stance, the tennis player has donated millions of euros to COVID-19 relief funds in three different countries. Unless what happens (or doesn’t) in Melbourne, Wimbledon in July will be another chance for the trio of tennis masters to break their three-way lead in the majors, and is not to be missed.

FIFA World Cup 2022

The 2022 FIFA World Cup is the first to take place in the Middle East, in Qatar in November. While this step is welcomed by many, the host nation has come under scrutiny for allegedly corruption FIFA officials for their candidacy and using migrant labor to build the stadiums. The teams that qualify for the tournament include Canada, the United States and Mexico from the Confederation of North American, Central American and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF). Italy and Portugal have yet to play in the European playoffs, so there’s a chance Cristiano Ronaldo won’t play in Qatar. The favorites to win the cup this year are Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands; However, that could all change if Italy does not qualify. As for women’s football, the qualifying competition for both the 2023 Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympics will take place in July.

Will Tiger Woods return to Masters?

Casual and dedicated golf enthusiasts were rocked when Tiger Woods, arguably the best golfer to ever graced the green, was injured in a life threatening car crash in February 2021. He broke his ankle and suffered two broken legs. After the announcement of his full recovery, the world is waiting to see if, or when, he will return to professional golf. After finishing second in 2021 PNC Championships along with his son Charlie, the odds of Woods playing in the Masters have increased dramatically. He told reporters after the tournament that he won’t be returning to competing anytime soon, but many fans are still hoping he will attend, if not play, at the Masters. He is more likely to return to the British Open course, where the St. Andrews course has fewer hills to climb.

The NHL Stanley Cup playoffs and the Habs implode

The 2022 Stanley Cup has a myriad of possible contenders. The Colorado Avalanche, although it hasn’t reached the conference finals since 2002, is one of the favorites to win. Tampa Bay are another favored team to do well in the playoffs this year. The Lightning have won the Stanley Cup two years in a row, and the only treble fans are the Lightning fans. Tampa Bay rivals the Florida Panthers are also having a solid season and could potentially pose a challenge for the defending champions as they are currently tied. In the metro division, the Carolina Hurricanes dominate, a change that could see the organization win their second Stanley Cup championship. Unfortunately, the Montreal Canadiens, having won just seven of their 35 games in total, will not be in contention for the cup this year. The only Canadian team with a real chance of winning is the Toronto Maple Leafs. Just behind the Lightning in points, the Leafs have a roster filled with star players. If they can find a way through the first round of the playoffs, the Leafs could be a team to be reckoned with.

Formula 1 season

2022 will bring a new car design and a longer season. While the season will feature a new Miami Grand Prix, favorite courses such as Montreal will be restored after the COVID-19 pandemic prevented them from hosting in previous years. There will be several exciting battles between the teams that finished neck and neck in the 2021 season. Ferrari and McLaren will battle for third place this season, with Mercedes and Redbull in the top two. Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris have brought their respective teams back to life and will be extremely exciting to watch this season. Unfortunately for Mercedes, George Russell is ranked eighth in the power standings, a gap that could allow other teams to better challenge the defending champions. In the midfield, the triple Aces – Alpine, Aston Martin and AlphaTauri – will face each other again. Pierre Gasly for AlphaTauri is a phenomenal driver and will keep his team in the race for fifth place in 2022. Aston Martin finished well behind the other two teams in 2021, and while they have potential, most of it comes from the owner. billionaire Lawrence Stroll. potential to spend money. However, he will have to deal with the new spending limit $ 140 million for 2022, which aims to give smaller-budget teams a better chance at victory.

The best sports games for PC in 2022

By Sports games

Are you looking for the best sports games on PC? For a very long time, publishers were reluctant to bring their best-selling sports games to PC. Other than EA’s annual release of FIFA and Sports Interactive’s Football Manager series, the PC sports genre was pretty rare until recently. Nowadays, whatever sport you play in, you should find something to ease that itch of competition.

Compared to their console counterparts, the sports games on this list generally have smaller player bases, but that doesn’t make them inferior. The PC versions of some of these games have a lot to offer, including support for high refresh rates and a variety of high-resolution panels. Ever wanted a view of the entire pitch during a football match? It is quite possible on PC.

Nowadays, you can find most sports games on PC with almost no compromises. Sure, you can’t get some games like UFC 4 and MLB The Show 21, but who needs them when you have Street Fighter V and Super Mega Baseball 3? Here are some of our top picks for the best PC sports games.

The best sports games are:

  • Football manager 22
  • Super Mega Baseball 3
  • FIFA 22
  • eFootball PES 2021
  • Madden NFL 22
  • Golf with your friends
  • NBA 2K22
  • Republic of the Horsemen
  • Rocket league
  • THPS 1 + 2

Football manager 21

The Football Manager series is known to be one of the most in-depth and strategic sports games of all time. Football Manager 22 puts you in the shoes of the next Pep Guardiola as you manage your squad of irritable players while trying to manage a tight transfer budget.

Players moving through the bases in Super Mega Baseball 3

Super Mega Baseball 3

When it comes to PC baseball games, it’s fair to say that we don’t have a lot of options. Fortunately, Metalhead Software’s excellent baseball series offers an alternative to the licensed games available on console. The developers focused on creating an accessible experience that was easy to learn and play. Don’t be fooled by the cartoon’s aesthetic – Super Mega Baseball 3 packs a lot of depth both on and off the pitch.

You can focus entirely on the multiplayer aspect of the game, but there is a lot of single player content to explore. A new addition to the series is Franchise Mode, which spans multiple years this time around instead of focusing on a single season. Build a strong team and watch them dominate the sport as you go from humble beginnings to the heights baseball has to offer.

Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix looks into the distance

FIFA 22

The FIFA series has always been a staple in PC gaming since the 90s. While there were a few rough years between engine upgrades, EA has always stuck with its PC audience. FIFA 21 was far from the most innovative in terms of gameplay, but you know what they say, if it’s not broken …

Next season: Get the latest FIFA 22 news

FIFA has dominated the football scene ever since Ultimate Team was introduced to the masses with FIFA 11. The card game has completely changed sports games forever as players clamor for the latest additions to the game mode every week. Bringing together your favorite players from the past and present is just too tempting a prospect to ignore.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the ball in PES 2021

eFootball PES 2021

You can’t mention FIFA without mentioning the Pro Evo series, or eFootball PES as it’s called today. Pro Evolution Soccer has been around on PC for almost two decades now, and while it might not be as popular as the FIFA series, it certainly has its share of die-hard fans. eFootball PES 2021 is known for its realistic approach to football, giving players much more control over each player compared to FIFA.

The latest version of eFootball 2022 is a bit of a mess… it’s probably best not to talk about the new version. Remember, there is nothing wrong with PES 2021, so if you want to play a football game that’s very different from FIFA 22, this is your best bet.

Man in a purple bathing suit walks past a man on the floor in Madden 21

Madden NFL 22

The NFL series only recently returned to the PC space after a long hiatus. Madden NFL 22 is the only option when it comes to American football games – there is literally no other American football game. Thankfully, Madden 22 is the same game as its console counterparts, so PC gamers don’t have to feel bad about missing out on anything.

There have been some criticisms of the Madden series over the past few years regarding complacency due to lack of competition. Madden 22 is far from the best game in the series; as in any sports team, fans have to face the rough with the smooth.

A mini-golf course with the head of a skeletal dinosaur in Golf With Your Friends

Golf with your friends

Golf With Your Friends is exactly what it sounds like – play with up to 11 friends while riding themed mini-golf courses. Turn on power-ups to freeze your opponent’s ball, and draw honeycombs to stop players in their tracks. The game even comes with a built-in level editor for players who have a keen eye for golf courses.

Golf With Your Friends can be played simultaneously online or locally via the Hot Seat option; perfect with Steam’s remote play feature. The best part about this game is that the barrier to entry does not exist – no actual golf skills apply here; just choose a direction, decide how hard to hit the ball, and pray for the best.

NBA 2K22

If you play mostly offline, NBA 2K22 is a great game with a long MyCareer story mode that single player players can dive into. Not only do you have the entire selection of modern teams available to play, 2K22 offers players a number of classic teams across NBA history to choose from. Want to see how the 2021 Golden State Warriors stack up against the ’96 Chicago Bulls? You can play matches like this without having to spend any extra money.

NBA 2K22 is the definitive basketball game for PC, and it’s also the only basketball series available right now. Almost every version of NBA 2K is filled with cheats that the developers have a hard time crushing; Unfortunately, this makes online games more frustrating than enjoyable.

Skiing down the Grand Teton in our Riders Republic review

Republic of the Horsemen

Riders Republic is the spiritual successor to Steep, the extreme sports game released in 2016. There is so much to do in the huge open world of Rider Republic which brings together seven national parks of the United States to create one huge map. Up to 64 players can compete in wingsuit, ski, snowboard and mountain bike to prove who is the best pilot.

You don’t need to go up against other players to have a good time, but overtaking your friends as you weave your way through the pitch at extreme speeds is a deeply satisfying feeling. Check out our Riders Republic review to see our final verdict on Ubisoft’s sprawling open-world game.

A car charging towards a bullet in Rocket League

Rocket league

Rocket League is one of the best soccer games of all time. Yes, he’s replacing an 11-man squad with three rocket-powered cars, potentially adorned with a stack of pancakes or a sombrero, and it’s still a great football game. The FIFA and PES communities constantly bicker over scripted gameplay and pay to win mechanics; you won’t hear any of this about Rocket League.

Psyonix has perfected the mechanics of Rocket League, making the game accessible to most people while maintaining an absurdly high skill cap. Rocket League’s esports scene shows just how deep a game about flying cars is. Best of all, Rocket League is free and offers cross-platform play on all platforms. If you have any interest in hitting a massive ball with a flying car, try Rocket League.

Tony Hawk grinding on a rail in THPS 1 + 2

THPS 1 + 2

The remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 by Vicarious Visions takes everything you remember about those classic games and makes them modern. The Tony Hawk series evolved rapidly when it first appeared in 1999, launching a sequel with higher levels and improved mechanics for eight consecutive years.

Tony Hawk’s original games still hold up today, but important mechanics introduced in later games can make their return difficult. This remake brings together the best aspects of the series and connects them to the first two games to create a masterpiece. Whether you’re looking to shred with your friends locally or want to see how you’re doing online, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 offers robust multiplayer options to suit every type of player.

Who Said There Are No PC Sports Games? Basketball, soccer, football in a rocket-propelled vehicle… all you want is on your PC. Charlotte’s Austin Butler (2) tries to gain possession against Davidson in a game at Halton Arena in November. Charlotte announced on Friday that fans would not be allowed to attend 49ers home sporting events until at least January 24.

The Charlotte 49ers have been closing the doors to fans at home sporting events for about three weeks, due to the spike in COVID-19 infection rates attributed to the rapidly spreading Omicron variant.

The 49ers are North Carolina’s premier athletic department and are said to be the first college track program in the country to announce such a move, although dozens of college and pro basketball and hockey games are postponed daily in reason for the increase.

Provincial governments in Canada also have a limited turnout, at 1,000 fans in most cases, and the NHL has responded by postponing a number of games until those restrictions can be lifted.

The 49ers said on Friday that participation will be limited to home sporting events until January 24. Only a small number of family members of participants will be allowed to attend.

The number of COVID cases has reached record highs across the United States, forcing a number of entertainment events – such as Broadway plays – to close.

Among the latest postponements announced was the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, which was due to take place in early February in New York City.

College sports teams across the country played in front of empty or nearly empty stadiums and arenas in fall 2020 and winter 2020-21. Most schools have allowed full attendance from September as many spectators have been vaccinated.

But the rapid spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant has made a difference.

Charlotte University officials say fans who purchased tickets to the games before January 24 will be offered a refund. The box office will contact ticket holders next week, they said.

Africa: 2021 – a year when Rwanda has become the hub of sporting events in Africa

By Sports events

DESPITE the inconvenience caused by Covid-19 across the globe, Rwanda in 2021 has positioned itself as one of Africa’s premier destinations for sporting events.

The country’s efforts to improve its sports facilities, coupled with a reputation for Covid-safe events, among other factors such as cleanliness and safety, have led it to attract major continental tournaments.

Times Sport brings you a summary of the 6 best sports competitions organized by the country.

The Basketball Africa League (BAL)

In May, history was made when Rwanda hosted the inaugural season of the BAL, an elite continental club championship affiliated with the United States National Basketball Association (NBA).

Held at the Kigali Arena, the competition saw the participation of 12 clubs from 12 different African countries.

As well as bringing in a number of celebrities like former NBA players Dikembe Mutombo and Joakim Noah, the showpiece was characterized by a number of unforgettable experiences including the stellar performances of the Patriots Basketball Club which brought them seen reaching the semi-finals.

Sports investors like Wesley Roberts Edens, NBA team co-owner Milwaukee Bucks, as well as politicians including Presidents Paul Kagame and Emmanuel Macron have also graced the tournament.

After two weeks of action, Zamalek Sporting Club of Egypt won the title after defeating US Monastir of Tunisia 76-63 in the final.

FIBA Afrobasket 2021

Rwanda also hosted the FIBA Afrobasket 2021 tournament, a continental men’s basketball championship for African nations.

Considered the biggest basketball event for national teams in Africa, the competition started on August 24 at the Kigali Arena and ended on September 5.

It drew 16 teams, ranging from the usual powerhouses like Senegal and Tunisia, to smaller ones like Kenya and Rwanda.

Tunisia won the title and became the first team to win back-to-back Afrobasket titles since Angola in 2009.

African Men’s Volleyball Championship

Rwanda hosts 4 ICC qualifiers for Africa Cricket World Cup

Rwanda has been awarded the hosting rights for all four of the five African regional qualifying tournaments this year, including the African qualifier for the U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup which took place from September 28 to October 7 and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup African Qualifier held from November. 15-20.

The four tournaments cost ICC more than Rwf 900 million which, according to tournament coordinator Emmanuel Byiringiro, was spent on team accommodation, transport, regular covid-19 testing for players, delegates team and organizers, among others.

The Ugandan starlets have qualified for the 2022 ICC U-19 World Cup in the West Indies while the country’s senior squad have also secured a ticket to the ICC T20 World Cup global qualifiers scheduled for February next year after last weekend’s hard-fought win over Kenya by six wickets.

Besides securing qualification, the Ugandan team also pocketed $80,000.

Meanwhile, Rwanda have struggled to compete for a ticket to any of the three qualifying tournaments they have entered, despite hosting the majority of World Cup qualifiers, including the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier held in Namibia from September 7-20, U-19 African Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier and ICC Men’s T20 Sub-Regional World Cup Qualifier Group A , both held in Kigali.

Swiss officials warn COVID-19 rules threaten sporting events | News, Sports, Jobs

By Sports events

BERNE, Switzerland — Olympic officials in Switzerland on Tuesday urged the federal government to exempt international athletes and officials from new quarantine rules that threaten the staging of World Cup events in winter sports.

People arriving from the growing number of countries on Switzerland’s red list must enter mandatory 10-day quarantine periods to protect against COVID-19 and the aggressive omicron variant.

The red list now includes Canada, where alpine skiers – including former World Cup champions Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States and Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland – currently compete in Lake Louise. They are to travel next door to Switzerland for two super-G races in St. Moritz.

“If travel restrictions and quarantine rules are maintained, the organization of international sporting events in Switzerland will be in danger, if not impossible”, said Jurg Stahl, president of the Swiss National Olympic Committee.

Switzerland is also due to host cross-country skiing in Davos, ski jumping in Engelberg and ski cross racing in Arosa within the next three weeks.

Swiss Olympic has warned of the difficulties associated with the current rules for athletes who “can no longer practice their profession”, as well as sports clubs and the wider economy, such as hotels and restaurants.

The Swiss economy has already been hit this week by the cancellation with less than two weeks’ notice of the 2021 Winter World University Games based in Lucerne.

Hundreds of athletes, coaches, officials and event staff were expected to arrive for competitions at several venues in central and eastern Switzerland.

Stahl said Swiss Olympic wanted to work with federal and local authorities to find solutions.

The Red List now includes Canada, where female alpine skiers – including former World Cup champions Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States and Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland – are currently competing in Lake Louise. They are expected to travel to the side of Switzerland for two super-G races in the high end of St. Moritz.

“If travel restrictions and quarantine rules are maintained, the organization of international sporting events in Switzerland will be in danger, if not impossible,” said Jürg Stahl, chairman of the Swiss National Olympic Committee.

Mirabai Chanu to miss World Championship and Senior Commonwealth Championship

By Sports games

Olympic silver medalist weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will miss the World Championship and Senior Commonwealth Championship which will be held simultaneously from December 7-17 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Chanu, who won a silver medal in the 49kg category at the Tokyo Olympics earlier this year and is also a former world champion, withdrew from both events on the advice of the coach- Indian chief Vijay Sharma.

“Our main goal (for the World Championship and the Senior Commonwealth Championship) is for weightlifters to qualify for the Commonwealth Games next year,” Sharma told PTI.

“We sent Mira’s entry but her performance is not very good at the moment. We are working a bit on his snatch technique.

“Her qualification (for the CWG) is not a problem as she won silver at the Olympics and she is also ranked number one at the moment,” he added.

The Commonwealth Senior Championship was previously scheduled to be held in Singapore from October 20-24, but was canceled due to COVID-19. It will now take place simultaneously and in the same location alongside the world championship next month.

Twenty weightlifters from across the country, including Youth Olympic Gold Medalist Jeremy Lalrinnunga, will compete in the tournament.

Chanu, who holds the world record in the clean and jerk in the 49kg category after successfully lifting 119kg in the Asian Championship last year, struggled to stay tied with her Chinese rivals in the snatch section.

The 27-year-old has, in her own words, struggled lifting weights in the snatch due to an imbalance affecting her right shoulder and back.

Chanu had also seen Dr. Aaron Horschig, a former weightlifter turned physiotherapist and strength and conditioning trainer in the United States, which helped her win the silver medal in Tokyo immensely.

When asked if Chanu plans to return to the United States for training, Sharma said: “It is not necessary at the moment.” Sharma said the decision to withdraw from the world championships is a strategic one.

“She doesn’t face any issues but it’s just that we’re strategically thinking about which events to attend and which to miss.

“She has been competing continuously for the past five years. We have prepared but it is not enough for this event.

“She should have taken an extra load for this event, so I advised her to miss it,” he said.

However, in an interview with PTI last month, Chanu revealed that she still sometimes experiences pain when lifting heavy weights.

“The problem is solved, but sometimes I still have pain in my right shoulder and back because of the imbalance. But there is a lot of improvement compared to before, ” she said.

“At the moment, there is no plan to go to the United States because there is a world championship in December. After that, maybe we’ll plan. I consult him (Horschig) online on what to do. ” Asian Championship gold medalist Jhilli Dalabehera, who previously competed in the 45kg category, will represent India in the Chanu category. during the event.

NBA 2K22 (PS5)

NBA 2K22 (PS5)NBA 2K22 (PS5)

Editor: Sports 2K / Developer: Visual concepts

Release date: September 10, 2021 (United States) / September 10, 2021 (UK / EU)
  • Type: Simulation
  • Sport: Basketball
  • Players: 4

NBA 2K22 is unmatched in the sports genre for its reach, and while many may frown at Visual Concepts’ attempt to create an open-world online RPG in the ever-popular MyCareer mode, there’s no doubt you could waste hundreds of hours in this regard. With one of the strongest franchise modes on the market in MyNBA and a rewarding Ultimate Team alternative in MyTeam, this is the biggest and best featured sports game on PS5. Nice improvements to the defense mean it plays quite cleanly on the pitch as well.

Riders Republic (PS5)

Riders Republic (PS5)Riders Republic (PS5)

Editor: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft Annecy

Release date: October 28, 2021 (United States) / October 28, 2021 (UK / EU)
  • Type: Arcade
  • Sport: Extreme sports
  • Players: 1

A game that brings something a little different to the sports genre on PS5, Riders Republic is an open world game from Ubisoft with a cycling / skiing / wingsuit skin. A massively multiplayer online sandbox, filled with both silly and serious challenges, this game is on a colossal scale – something it underlies with its outrageous mass racing competitions. It might sound a little ugly and its too cool for school style will squeak, but going down mountains at 100 km / h is still an exhilarating experience.

MLB The Show 21 (PS5)

MLB The Show 21 (PS5)MLB The Show 21 (PS5)

Editor: Sony interactive entertainment / Developer: WWS San Diego Studio

Release date: April 20, 2021 (United States) / April 20, 2021 (UK / EU)
  • Type: Simulation
  • Sport: Baseball
  • Players: 2

MLB The Show 21 looks like a half step into the PS5 generation, as its industry-leading presentation has stalled somewhat. Make no mistake, however, this has some of the best gameplay of the genre and one of the deepest franchise modes available, with only NBA 2K22 really rivaling it. Despite that, Diamond Dynasty is the real star: this generous card-collecting mode is absolutely jam-packed with content, and unlike other options in the genre, you don’t need to spend a dime to get the most out of it.

FIFA 22 (PS5)

FIFA 22 (PS5)FIFA 22 (PS5)

Editor: EA Sports / Developer: EA Vancouver

Release date: October 1, 2021 (United States) / October 1, 2021 (UK / EU)
  • Type: Simulation
  • Sport: Soccer
  • Players: 4

In a year where eFootball has effectively declared itself unfit for competition, EA Sports may have put the final nail in Konami’s long-running franchise with its best football simulation in years. FIFA 22 feels extraordinary on the pitch, thanks to a bunch of new animations and vastly improved ball physics. While not without its flaws – namely microtransactions – Career Mode additions, like the revamped Player Career, add value to the offline experience, while new Fall Guys-style board games from Volta Football are also quite fun.

F1 2021 (PS5)

F1 2021 (PS5)F1 2021 (PS5)

Editor: EA Sports / Developer: Codemasters

Release date: July 16, 2021 (United States) / July 16, 2021 (UK / EU)
  • Type: Simulation
  • Sport: Formula One
  • Players: 2

Between its cheesy Braking Point cinematic campaign and hugely in-depth cooperative career mode, F1 2021 sits alongside NBA 2K22 and MLB The Show 21 as one of the most comprehensive sports games out there. Basically Codemasters did an amazing job on the track as well, with a huge number of settings making this racer appealing to both casual Sunday drivers and experienced gas enthusiasts alike.

NHL 22 (PS5)

NHL 22 (PS5)NHL 22 (PS5)

Editor: EA Sports / Developer: EA Vancouver

Release date: October 15, 2021 (United States) / October 15, 2021 (UK / EU)
  • Type: Simulation
  • Sport: Ice Hockey
  • Players: 4

As part of the transition to the Frostbite engine, the EA Canada team has achieved one important thing: not to completely dump the game. NHL 22 can share many of its features and modes with its immediate predecessor PS4, but at minus it wasn’t gutted like the disastrous NHL 15. The X-Factors implementation adds personality to the rink, and Franchise Mode is still more in-depth than most EA Sports alternatives in. genre.

Tennis World Tour 2: Complete Edition (PS5)

Tennis World Tour 2: Complete Edition (PS5)Tennis World Tour 2: Complete Edition (PS5)

Editor: Nacon / Developer: The big ants studios

Release date: March 25, 2021 (United States) / March 25, 2021 (UK / EU)
  • Type: Simulation
  • Sport: Tennis
  • Players: 4

From a pure presentation standpoint, Tennis World Tour 2: Complete Edition is by far the worst game on this list – even though it looks and runs a lot sharper on the PS5, compared to its counterpart. PS4. Inspired by the gameplay of the classic PS3 Top Spin 4, this game captures the ebb and flow of tennis fairly well and includes a reasonably robust Career mode with a good sense of progression. But a lack of animations and general polish lets it down, even though there’s a feeling the developer has something to work with here.

Madden NFL 22 (PS5)

Madden NFL 22 (PS5)Madden NFL 22 (PS5)

Editor: EA Sports / Developer: EA Tiburon

Release date: August 20, 2021 (United States) / August 20, 2021 (UK / EU)
  • Type: Simulation
  • Sport: Football
  • Players: 2

EA Sports’ flagship American football franchise has been overtaken by many other sports games on this list, but Madden NFL 22 has at least got the brand back on track. The expected improvements to Franchise Mode mean that it finally has some key systems, like play week planning and coordinators. It’s still a long way from where it needs to be, but Ultimate Team has some great content and The Yard is a nice alternative to authentic football. The less said about Face of the Franchise, the better.

The most popular sporting events in the world

By Sports events

(STL.News) Sport is an integral part of human culture. This has been the case since time immemorial. Almost everyone in the world will have an interest or at least an interest in one type of sport or another. The popularity of various sporting activities is also increasing as internet connectivity and television rights continue to expand across the world.
While all kinds of sports have impressive audience figures, some are doing better than others. The number of spectators varies widely from sport to sport and this is easily seen from the audience of sporting events. To put that in perspective, let’s take a look at the most popular sporting events today.

Fifa World Cup

The World Cup is without a doubt the most anticipated sporting event on the planet. It occurs every four years, and in those years it is often one of the most watched sporting events in the world. On average, the World Cup audience is 3.5 billion people. Football or soccer, as it is commonly known, is already establishing itself as one of the most recognizable sporting activities in the world. So it’s no surprise that the World Cup brings together so many people to celebrate beautiful sport.

Other equally footballing events that draw an equally massive audience are the Women’s World Cup, the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Confederation Cup.

Olympic Games

Now the Olympics are a different kind of event. This is because it involves multiple sports and athletics unlike the other events listed here. It often attracts more viewers than any other sport for this reason. In 2008, the Beijing Olympics drew 600 million viewers, which is very close to the number of viewers for the 2010 World Cup final. That’s the size of these games.

Tour de France

It turns out that there are many people around the world who are deeply interested in cycling tournaments. The Tour de France is the biggest in the world and it has the numbers to prove it. With up to 3.5 billion viewers, the event that takes place in France each summer is a prestigious sports competition that resonates with many fans. It is a very difficult route which often involves cycling through incredible landscapes. This perhaps adds to its appeal.

Cricket world cup

The popularity of cricket is quite disproportionate, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that it is one of the most watched sports. In some countries like Pakistan and India, it is the most watched single and this has contributed to its dominance as one of the main sporting events. At least 400 million viewers come together every four years to watch the Cricket World Cup. Some cricket matches have even attracted audiences of over a billion people.

The Super Bowl

In America, few sporting events are even close to being as big as the Super Bowl. This American football event is the National Football League championship game and it has the numbers to back it up. Each year, it attracts tens or even hundreds of millions of viewers, most of them from the United States. Although it does not enjoy such popularity outside the country, the part of the American population that is fans is very respectable considering the population of the country.

NBA Finals

For basketball fans, few leagues are as popular as the NBA. Fans always follow their favorite teams throughout an 82-game regular season that typically ends in the playoffs and finally, the NBA Finals. These finals are often honored by many spectators as well as public figures and celebrities. This further adds to its appeal with a peak audience of over 16 million people in a single game.

NCAA Finals

College sports are also no slouch when it comes to the world’s most popular sporting events. In fact, this is usually where professional athletes start. So it’s no surprise that NCAA basketball games are so important. Players can not only show off their talent, but also put teams from their schools on the map. The maximum viewership for the event has passed 16 million, making it almost as popular as the NBA Finals.

Honorable mentions

Other incredible sporting events with huge viewership numbers that we can’t leave out include the Rugby World Cup, Kentucky Derby, Masters, Boxing, and the World Series. There are plenty of events to watch out for depending on where you are and what interests you have. It all depends on the sport you like. There is always a chance that there will be an event just for that.

You have mail … – The Royal Gazette

By Sports events

Bermuda Post’s decision to expand its international mail service should not have come as a surprise. After all, his 2020 business plan was announced in the House of Assembly a year ago and one of the deliverables was the package delivery partnerships.

In my last opinion, “whether to privatize or not”, I said that public transport should remain a public service because of the positive benefits which also align with the current challenges and objectives of the country. That is, to help reduce traffic jams, reduce the number of traffic accidents, protect the environment and reduce the cost of living.

While there is a good argument to be made for maintaining and even expanding Bermuda’s public transport services, I don’t see a similar path for the post office. In this context, I question the government’s strategy of increasing competition and causing friction with one of its main job-creating players.

Malcolm Raynor has worked in the telecommunications industry in Bermuda for over 30 years. Benefiting from Cable & Wireless internal training and education programs in Bermuda, Barbados, Saint Lucia (University of the West Indies) and Great Britain, he has reached the level of Senior Vice President. Independent thinker with a moderate ideology, his opinions are influenced by principles, data and trends

When unveiling the 2020 business plan, it was misleading for the minister to say: “The Bermuda Post value chain, compared to its competitors, relies heavily on its competitive prices.” While competition is healthy in a market to control prices and rates, is it a fair fight for a government institution that operates at a large loss to take on private companies that have to operate at a profit to maintain itself?

I am aware of the decline of the traditional economic model of the Post, and I understand that the goal is to make more income to reduce its deficit. However, at what cost? There is now no more love between the government and the e-commerce packaging industry. Whatever relationship there was, it’s definitely worse now.

More importantly, trust within the entire retail sector is broken, as overseas purchases are openly encouraged by a government which should instead provide economic security and assistance to businesses operating in the United States. the island.

This situation reminds me of a video that had previously gone viral on social media. It featured two gazelles locking horns and fighting against each other, arguing over what I suppose is territory. The two perceived enemies were so busy and focused on their disagreement that they didn’t notice a real threat looming on the horizon. Frame by frame of the video, there was danger running towards them. Gazelle spectators quickly left, as soon as it became apparent that a lion was coming to join the fray, hoping to have a five-course meal. The two in conflict continued to fight, and unfortunately for one of the gazelles, the lion got her wish.

The two gazelles fighting for the territory recall the Post Office and the local e-commerce packaging company. The lion, who is the king of the jungle, is Amazon, and that is the real danger to the courier industry in Bermuda, as well as the local retail industry as a whole.

Many of us are aware that Amazon has devoured its competition in its own home market in the United States and is the # 1 overseas retailer Bermuda and residents use when shopping. in line. What many ignore is Amazon Air, which has been the fastest growing airline to date.

Amazon Air is a cargo airline that operates exclusively for the transport of Amazon packages. It leases most of its cargo planes, but recently added to its fleet by purchasing used Boeing jets from other airlines. The number of planes at Amazon Air is expected to double in size over the past year, taking full advantage of the pandemic and the challenges it has faced for airlines. Amazon clearly has the ambition to build its own air cargo empire.

How will it be for Bermuda, who knows. Our small market may not be feasible for Amazon to fly its own plane to the island. However, one cannot rule out the possibility. Amazon’s goal is for customers to sign up for its Prime service, as this is a key factor in its long-term success. In order to be able to offer Amazon Prime, there must be a fast delivery option, which is usually two days. The only way to do this is to use your own plane. Like the lion in search of his next meal, Amazon is a beast, and he wants his brand to stay sticky to keep customers buying his products.

One of the stated goals of the Bermuda Post Office is to position itself to provide services to businesses large and small. It remains to be seen whether its initiatives, which are outlined in the Business Plan 2020, will be affected by the decision to promote online shopping abroad.

To achieve the Post’s overall goal of increasing revenue, the focus should have been on its strength – last mile services. I have a few suggestions that could have been explored as well, that wouldn’t have ruffled anyone.

Work with e-commerce packaging companies, not against them

Instead of intensifying competition with local businesses in this sector, La Poste could position itself as the last mile delivery person and complement them, whether it is hand delivery or pickup in the store. one of its post offices across the island. . This logistics program could then be used as a last mile deliverer for goods purchased online from local retail businesses, which have plenty of room to grow.

Direct mail is not dead

In fact, direct mail is making a comeback. The more online ads appear on all social media platforms, the harder it is for businesses to get their message across to consumers. Direct mail now has a better response rate than online ads and email campaigns as people are increasingly overwhelmed by digital marketing.

There are only a few retail businesses on the island that periodically use direct mail flyers to advertise their products. I don’t know the reasons for the low turnout. However, this looks like an opportunity to create an island-wide or parish-wide bi-weekly or monthly flyer delivery service to accommodate small businesses.

Create your own digital platform

La Poste must expand its last mile distribution by asserting itself in the digital space. Emails are less and less secure and it is very easy to create bogus and fraudulent messages. By creating a digital platform that requires a secure two-step login, all government bills and important notices could be posted for retrieval instead of sending regular email correspondence.

Privatize a service

As the Post moves towards parcel delivery, the service that should eventually be entrusted to individuals is the sale of stamps to the public. It would not be revolutionary, because other countries are already using this type of model. This would help reduce the overhead costs of a declining service while not affecting our obligation to provide accessible and affordable means of communication.

Kudos to the post office for creating a plan that will shape it for the future. It was good to involve a reputable company like KPMG, although it seemed to me that its scope was a bit narrow. That said, it was a misstep for the Post to establish its own link with a US-based courier provider, creating mistrust within the business community in the process.

I don’t know if Amazon is becoming more of a threat to local retailers. Amazon has a habit of eliminating its competitors and removing middlemen from its supply chain.

The MyBermudaPost service is myopic and makes the challenges that local retailers face in operating their businesses on the island even more difficult. It’s important to remember that overseas online retailers do not employ Bermudians, support other local businesses, and pay salaries and other government taxes. It is not a focus on the big picture.

Chinese tennis star’s email doubts raise security concerns

By Sports games

A Chinese professional tennis player has not been seen in public since she accused a former senior government official of sexual assault who allegedly sent an email claiming she was safe and the allegation was bogus, a message that only amplified concerns about his safety and requests for information about him. well-being and location.

So far, these appeals have been met with silence.

Chinese authorities have not said anything publicly since the accusation, about two weeks ago, by the double Grand Slam champion, Peng Shuai, of being sexually assaulted by Zhang Gaoli. The first #MeToo case to reach the political realm in China was not reported by national media and the online discussion about it was heavily censored.

Steve Simon, president and CEO of the Women’s Tennis Association, questioned the authenticity of what Chinese state media said was an email to her in which Peng says she is safe and that the assault allegation is false. It was released on Thursday by CGTN, the international arm of China’s public broadcaster CCTV.

“I find it hard to believe that Peng Shuai wrote down the email we received or believes what is attributed to him,” Simon wrote.

The statement, he added, “only raises my concerns for her safety and her whereabouts.” Simon has called for a full investigation and the WTA has said it is ready to pull tournaments out of the country if it does not get a proper response. Top players including Naomi Osaka and Novak Djokovic have spoken, and the hashtag WhereisPengShuai is all the rage online.

Serena Williams tweeted that she was “devastated and shocked to hear the news” about Peng.

“I hope she’s safe and found as soon as possible,” Williams wrote. “This needs to be investigated and we must not remain silent.” International Tennis Federation spokeswoman Heather Bowler said Thursday the governing body is in contact with the China Tennis Association and liaising with the WTA and the International Olympic Committee.

“Player safety is always our top priority and we support a full and transparent investigation into this matter,” Bowler wrote in an email to The Associated Press. “Although we have not spoken to the player, we are in contact with the National Tennis Association of China (CTA) in case they could provide any additional information or updates.” China has largely suppressed a #MeToo movement that flourished briefly in 2018 and moves forward with the Beijing Winter Olympics in February despite calls to boycott activists and some foreign politicians of China’s record. in human rights.

When asked several times about the case, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian again said on Thursday that he was unaware.

Peng, 35, is a former No. 1 player in the women’s doubles who won titles at Wimbledon in 2013 and Roland Garros in 2014.

She wrote in a long social media post on November 2 that Zhang, a former deputy prime minister who was a member of the ruling Communist Party’s top leadership committee, had forced her to have sex despite refusals. repeated three years ago.

The post was quickly deleted from his verified account on Weibo, one of China’s major social media platforms, but screenshots of the explosive charge quickly spread across the internet in China. She has not appeared in public since then, raising questions about her fate and whether she is being held.

Zhang, who is 75, disappeared from public view after retiring in 2018, as usual for former senior officials. He is not known to have close ties to the current rulers.

Peng’s charge is the first high-profile sexual assault charge against a powerful politician in China. Past accusations have involved prominent figures in the nonprofit world, academia and the media, but never reached senior Communist Party officials or state-owned companies.

CGTN released the statement on Twitter, which is blocked in China along with many other foreign platforms such as Google and Facebook. He did not post it on Chinese social media, and there was no mention of the alleged email behind the Great Firewall, which separates the Chinese internet from the rest of the world.

Some netizens bypassed controls and posted the news on private social media groups. Freeweibo.com, which records Weibo’s censored messages, said searches for “Peng Shuai” and “Zhang Gaoli” were both in the top 10 most searched topics on Thursday.

Searches for Peng Shuai’s name on the Chinese search engine Sogou only brought up articles about his tennis career. His Weibo account no longer allows comments and no results appear if people search for his Weibo account.

Peng wrote that Zhang’s wife was guarding the door during the alleged assault, which followed a game of tennis. Her post also said that they had had sex seven years ago and that she had feelings for him afterwards. She also said she knew speaking would be difficult.

“Yes, other than me, I have kept no evidence, no recording, no video, only the true experience of my twisted self. Even if I destroy myself, like throwing an egg against a rock, or a butterfly flying into a flame, I will continue to speak the truth about us, “the now deleted post said.

His allegation came just three months before Beijing hosted the Winter Olympics, which were the target of a campaign to boycott several human rights organizations in large part because of the crackdown by China of Uyghur Muslims. The games face a possible diplomatic boycott from the United States and other countries. Rights groups compared the 2022 Beijing Olympics to Hitler’s 1936 Berlin Olympics. China has always denied any human rights abuses and claims its actions are part of anti-terrorism programs.

Peng has participated in three Olympics. The IOC said in a statement Thursday that “We have seen the latest reports and are encouraged by the assurances that she is safe.” The Switzerland-based IOC, which derives 73% of its income from the sale of broadcast rights and 18% from sponsors, has not criticized China and often repeats that it is only a sports company and that it has no mandate to act on the policies of a sovereign state. .

The WTA can better afford to exert pressure since it is less dependent on China’s revenue than the IOC or the NBA. The basketball league lost around $ 400 million in broadcast rights when China canceled games in the 2019-20 season after then-Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey tweeted to support protesters in Hong Kong.

The WTA Finals were held in Mexico this month due to the pandemic, with the event scheduled to return in 2022 in Shenzhen, China. The WTA has several tournaments in China, and the WTA Finals are scheduled there until 2030. In 2019, there were eight WTA tournaments there as part of the Chinese swing after the US Open and just a few months before. that the pandemic does not strike in early 2020.

Simon’s statement said Peng had shown incredible courage, but was still concerned for his safety.

“The WTA and the rest of the world need independent, verifiable proof that they are safe,” he wrote. “I have tried several times to reach her via many forms of communication, to no avail.”

China remains silent on death of tennis star, despite global pressure

Soccer-Kerr signs two-year extension with Chelsea

By Sports games

Chelsea striker Sam Kerr has signed a new contract which will extend the Australian striker’s stay at the club until the end of the 2023-24 season, the women’s Super League champions have said. Kerr, who joined Chelsea midway through the 2019-20 season, established herself as a lethal scorer in the women’s top flight with 39 goals, escaping with the Golden Shoe last season with 21 goals in 22 games. .

The 28-year-old has played in Australia and the United States, but said winning trophies with the London club meant her decision to stay was “a given”. “I think the club gives me every chance to succeed as a player. I don’t see myself going anywhere else in the world or leaving Europe, having what I have at Chelsea,” Kerr said on the site Club web https: // www. chelseafc.com/en/news/2021/11/16/kerr-talks-through-extension-news.

“The time had come, honestly, I didn’t feel like I wanted to rush into anything, just like signing here the first time around, it just happened naturally.” Kerr was the first player to win the Golden Shoe on three different continents and she is also leading the race this season with six goals. But his main goal is to defend the title with Chelsea in second, one point behind Arsenal.

“I’m not going to lie, it’s good when I win them but that’s not my main goal at the start of the year,” she added. “It’s a great reward, but if I won Golden Boot after Golden Boot and no trophy, it wouldn’t be so rewarding for me.

“That’s why last season winning the Golden Shoe and winning the league was so rewarding because it ultimately meant something.”

Women’s sporting events often do not have pre-game programming. A pair of American women’s football stars are set to change that.

  • The Chicago Red Stars and Washington Spirit will face off in Saturday’s NWSL Championship game.

  • Heeding fan calls, Just Women’s Sports will host a pre-game show on TikTok ahead of the title game.

  • Retired USWNT stars Angela Hucles and Leslie Osborne will host “The Warm Up” live from Louisville.

Finally, women’s sports are starting to get the coverage they deserve.

Some of the biggest events in women’s athletics have achieved top billing and broadcast windows like never before in recent years. These TV slots offer relatively young leagues opportunities for audience growth. But all too often, even the most anticipated women’s sporting events go unreported before the game, leaving all new eyes with little context for what they’re actually watching.

Just Women’s Sports is ready to change that.

the sports media startup dedicated solely to coverage of women’s sport is producing a pre-game show on TikTok LIVE ahead of Saturday’s National Women’s Football League Championship game.

Retired United States Women’s National Team stars Angela Hucles and Leslie Osborne will host “The Warm Up” at Lynn Family Stadium in Louisville, Ky., One hour and 15 minutes before kickoff between the games. Chicago Red Stars and Washington Spirit.

Additionally, Nike has partnered with Just Women’s Sports to help increase league coverage and analysis ahead of the NWSL season finale.

“For women’s sports to become mainstream, two things have to happen: the games have to be accessible, and there has to be coverage that matches the hype and enthusiasm that fans have for these amazing athletes,” he said. said Haley Rosen, Founder and CEO of Just Women’s Sports. Initiated.

“For fans to be engaged in a sporting event, they need to understand who is playing, what is at stake and why it matters.”

“This is the missing ingredient that we have been trying to add to the women’s sporting landscape, and ‘The Warm Up’ is a major step in this journey,” she added.

“The Warm Up” will air on TikTok LIVE.Just female sport

Hucles and Osborne were obvious choices to be the faces of the show, Rosen said.

With two World Cups and two Olympics between them, former national teams know the ins and outs of success at the highest level in women’s football.

They are also familiar with the world of professional women’s football in the United States. Both played for clubs in the WPS – the predecessor of the NWSL – and both were instrumental in the creation of the NWSL, which is now the oldest professional women’s soccer league in North America.

Hucles and Osborne have also continued their efforts to develop the game since leaving the field. Hucles is vice president of player operations at Angel City FC – the Los Angeles-based club that joined the NWSL in 2022 – while Osborne is working with a larger group to bring an expansion squad to the region. bay.

Both moved into sports broadcasting after their playing careers ended, making them what Rosen called “a perfect pair to co-host this show.”

“Ang and I have been good friends and former teammates for years, so we have a lot of experiences together and memories on and off the pitch,” Osborne told Insider. “[‘The Warm Up’] will be a great opportunity for new fans to get up to speed as we recap the season, playoffs and awards, and preview the finale. We’ll also dive deeper and more analytical at times to make sure everyone asks for more. It’s all about the balance. “

“There is a huge gap right now between what is seen around a game or a game and what can be said,” added Hucles.

“Storytelling around players, their backgrounds and interests connects fans and players while improving player profiles.

“This is just one way to help elevate female players in their respective sports and it’s rarer when it comes to women and women’s sports.”

Between the gripping storylines, the particularly competitive playoff race, and “the fact that there is an extremely underserved market” among NWSL fans, Rosen identified this weekend’s title game as a point of interest. ideal entry for this type of programming.

She also noted that the NWSL is “hot right now” after last season saw the league boast a remarkable 493% audience increase Year after year.

But Just Women’s Sports is set to expand its pre-game and post-match coverage beyond the NWSL Championship game. Rosen added that “this is just the beginning” of the brand’s foray into game day analysis.

“We’ve seen the demand for this type of content and we’ve seen that demand increase this year alone,” Rosen said. “‘The Warm Up’ is our first step towards creating a more robust coverage around the games and meeting that demand.”

“It’s also a natural next step in our evolution at JWS,” she added.

“We’ve only ever existed in COVID. But now that things are starting to pick up, we want to show up and be present at big events on the women’s sports calendar.”

Fans can catch Hucles and Osborne on TikTok LIVE Saturdays at 10:45 a.m. ET until 30 minutes before the kick-off of the title game at noon on CBS.

Just Women’s Sports’ partnership with Nike will provide fans with live analysis and on-site social media reporting throughout the championship, while Osborne will continue to cover the brand on Instagram Live after the final whistle.

  • Locker has secured over $ 800,000 in pre-seed funding led by Techstars Sports & WDC
  • Currently raising a funding round of $ 1.5 million to continue product development and the initial phase in the United States in 2022.

Dublin and Indiana, November 11, 2021: Locker [getlocker.com], the Irish and Indian sports start-up plans to raise $ 1.5 million in the coming months. In June 2021, the company announced its first pre-seed round of $ 800,000.

Founded in 2020, Locker is a mobile platform designed to bring personalized sports content directly to fans from trusted sources. After launching into the Irish market in recent weeks, the company now has its eyes set on the United States and is raising new fundraising to facilitate product development and a launch in the United States in 2022.

Ross O’Dwyer, CEO, Locker

Locker provides users with a single app to find and use stories and stats on the topics they love, from vendors they know and trust. It uses machine learning and trust aggregation to bring together hundreds of the world’s most trusted publishers, delivering the latest trending and reliable news, tailored to the user’s sporting tastes. The first phase of the app provides users with free sports news and statistics content, with video and audio feature updates being rolled out to users in the second phase. Locker is free for sports fans to download and use.

Additionally, in early 2022, Locker Pro, the app’s premium service, will allow fans to subscribe to individual sports sections of some of the world’s top paywall publishers, rather than having to pay for the entire amount. their offer. This is a new approach to micro-subscriptions in publishing.

A team with a proven track record in sports publishing, subscriptions and betting.
The start-up was founded in 2020 by Ross O’Dwyer – the former CEO and co-founder of Irish sports publisher Pundit Arena, along with Brian Quinn, the former sales and marketing director of Setanta Sports and Eir Sport. Along with Wayne Muller, the former technical director of fantasy sports app Jock Mkt, they have over three decades of experience in the sports media and subscription industry.

In July 2020, they were the first Irish sports company to be accepted into the prestigious Techstars Sports Accelerator program in Indianapolis. This highly competitive acceleration program is designed for sports technology companies focused on the future of sports, and less than 1% of applicants are accepted. Locker was also accepted into the Sportradar Acceleradar program and won the Google Adopt-a-Start-up program in May this year, which aims to further accelerate the growth of high potential start-ups.

Partnership-driven ecosystem
As Locker builds a personalized platform for users, the team is focused on providing a unique product and tools for publishers to maximize their revenue, understanding and fan growth. Connecting premium publishers with fans they’ve never reached before is a key initial goal for this partnership-driven team.

Over the next few months, Locker will announce a series of innovative partnerships with some of the world’s largest rights holders and media houses.

The innovative start-up works with both paid and free content providers to maximize their return on the content they already produce, while providing personalized analytics to understand their user base.

Ross O’Dwyer, CEO of Locker, said: “At Locker, we are passionate about great sports journalism. There is a world of brilliant sports content, the frustrating part is how we consume it. Why do sports fans have to travel to so many places every day to find their favorite content? Whether it’s news websites and league apps, social platforms and podcast apps, it’s hard to switch between locations and keep looking for what you really want. It shouldn’t be that way. Our mission is to provide the personalized world sports fans deserve, through a unique, free app where fans can easily find and consume the stories they need to see sources they trust. Locker puts the power back in the hands of the fan. ”

“Locker is not another content creator, in fact, as a tech company we don’t create any content, but rather they work with publishers to support growth, providing transparency, insight and solutions that ‘they don’t get elsewhere. We care about supporting quality sports content and journalism locally, nationally and internationally, and we will work with our partners to create a sustainable platform for all stakeholders. ‘

Written content and stats are just the start of our journey. We look forward to adding audio, video, live sports, and other essentials in the coming months to create a full sports experience. We’re also thrilled to have such great investors, partners and mentors who believe in our vision to transform this space. ”

Best sporting events for betting

By Sports events

Sports betting enthusiasts don’t need a special occasion to try their luck. Any off-season match between two underdogs is already enough for some players to have a good time. Still, there are some competitions that just can’t be missed for casual and regular players. In this article, we are going to talk about each of them and understand why they are so popular.

Same passion, different rules

Sports betting has been around since at least the ancient Greeks. Yet many countries have hostile policies towards gambling. Indeed, the rules may vary even between countries that have regulated the activity. In countries like Finland, for example, the activity is legalized but also heavily regulated. Always, Finnish players have a lot casino and sports betting options to choose from.

Although preferences may change locally, some competitions attract fans from all over the world. Learn more about them below.

Fifa World Cup

Football remains one of the most popular sports in the world. It is a competition which involves the best national teams and the best players of the moment. The last edition, in 2018, attracted more more than 3.5 billion viewers for all 64 games. Even more impressive is the estimated betting volume for this competition: $ 136 billion. The final game alone drew $ 7.2 billion.

However, football fans don’t have to wait four years to bet on their favorite game. Many other exciting competitions take place each year, at national and continental levels.

NFL Super Bowl

In terms of global interest, the Super Bowl lags far behind football competitions. Yet it is a runaway success in the United States and attracts fans from all over the world. In 2015, the match reached its audience record. The famous league was broadcast in 180 countries and over 20 languages.

The Super Bowl has a few exclusive attractions for bettors. Examples include the halftime show, the coin toss, and other small bets that keep all levels of players engaged during the game. Last year, a single game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs received $ 7 billion.

NBA / March Madness

Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the United States, in a close conflict with American football. The NBA league is one of the most watched domestic leagues in the sport, but there are others, even in the United States. College basketball is also gaining a lot of space, and March Madness is the most important.

According to the American Gaming Association, more than 45 million Americans play in this month-long competition. This means a betting volume of almost $ 9 billion. While March Madness’s games aren’t as popular as the Super Bowl’s, they could attract nearly double its betting volume.

Cricket world cup

It may surprise some readers, but cricket is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is incredibly famous in India, Bangladesh, Australia and other countries in this region. 1.6 billion fans watched the last edition of the Cricket World Cup, but when it comes to cricket betting it is the Indian Premier League that attracts colossal sums, especially towards the final matches.

Kentucky Derby / The Grand National

Horse racing is one of the most traditional sports in sports betting. The Grand National is an English race followed by royalty. Not only the Queen follows him, but also around half a billion people, in more than 120 countries. The Kentucky Derby isn’t quite as traditional, but it’s still one of the premier equestrian tracks in the United States.

Eyes into the future

The landscape of the sports betting market is changing. Players can also try their luck on online virtual games that have nothing to do with traditional sports. These games are called “electronic sports”, or simply “eSports”. ESports competitions are increasing in number, professionalism and audience. Check out some of the top competitions in this niche below.

League of Legends World Championship

LoL is definitely the most played online game from the moment. The game developed by Riot Games has no less than 100 million players every month. Unsurprisingly, LoL World Championship is among the most watched eSports competitions, attracting many young players as well.

CS: GO

Counter-Strike is one of the more traditional online shooting games. It was released in 1999 as a modification of the original Half-Life. The version played in this tournament is called Counter-Strike – Global Offensive. Valve powered this event as well, and it is right behind League of Legends in popularity, price, and betting volume.

The international

The International, also known as TI, is an annual tournament with 16 teams hosted by Valve. The match revolves around the game Dota 2 and even has qualifying rounds per region. Valve partially funds the prize money, and the rest is added through crowdfunding, using a portion of the Battle Pass sales. Last year the price was $ 25,532,177.

Conclusion

Whatever sport you choose, information is essential for conscious and educated betting. Experts suggest that new players choose sports with which they have at least some affinity. This will facilitate the research necessary to place a solid bet.

Sodexo launches Sodexo Live!

By Sports events

Sodexo Group recently launched Sodexo live!a new global brand dedicated to the hotel space. Designed to unify and leverage the company’s extensive expertise in the sports, events and hospitality industry, the new identity reaffirms the company’s commitment to being a market leader in a space on the verge of rebounding, according to Sodexo Live! officials.

“We are delighted to unveil Sodexo Live! for meeting planners, trade show organizers and the space as a whole,” said Steve Pangburn, CEO of Sodexo Live! North America. “Participants in the meetings and events industry can expect an ongoing commitment to excellence and world-class food and beverage from us. We have global resources but a local focus and a huge range of services outside of F&B to offer, [including] venue marketing and sales, design consulting, energy management, concierge services, etc.

The brand reinvention comes as people show a strong desire for face-to-face contact, as confirmed by a September 2021 studyproduced by Harris Interactive for Sodexo Live! in the United States, United Kingdom, France and Spain, which reported that 80% of respondents felt comfortable attending sporting, cultural or professional events again.

In order to fully accelerate in this high-potential market with the return of face-to-face events, the new Sodexo Live! brand will be based on three fundamental pillars, in particular:

1. A regional strategy to increase its global presence by consolidating its first three markets, North America, France and the United Kingdom, and by accelerating its growth in Spain and Asia-Pacific.

2. A sharp focus on priority business segments by continuing to deploy its expertise in major venues and events: stadiums and arenas, convention and congress centers, major international events, cultural destinations and more than 170 airport lounges.

3. A portfolio of personalized servicesincluding F&B expertise, helping clients discover new revenue streams, maximize venue budgets and operations, retain event planners, optimize sales and marketing efforts, and connect with attendees through smarter merchandising, ticketing and hospitality designs.

Formerly known as Centerplate in the more than 30 North American conference and convention centers it serves, Sodexo Live! will now offer expanded services for events beyond food and beverage, including ticketing, merchandising, contactless technology and marketing, sales and venue cleaning. Meanwhile, the Centerplate name will be retained as a dining option only for North American sites, according to Sodexo Live! officials.

“[The new Sodexo Live! brand] is intended to mark a clear investment in providing services beyond food and beverage and helps us expand our capabilities for customers,” Pangburn said. “With over 400 global locations, we offer a global and local approach that helps client partners think globally and attracts a more international traveler base.”

He continued, “Whether it’s in a city like Nashville, Denver, New Orleans, or Chicago, we’ll take advantage of areas where we already have multiple locations and show how they can connect more deeply with the local food scene and with the global community at large. large.. For meeting and event planners, we’re the same people behind the scenes and with a new brand identity. And we are now better equipped to leverage our global network of expertise to better drive revenue growth. »

In addition, Sodexo Live’s portfolio includes activities dedicated to specific areas of expertise, such as meetings, conferences and conventions. For example, Sodexo acquired Centerplate in 2018 to expand its presence in North America, and since then the two entities have partnered to generate strong market growth.

Like its parent company, Sodexo Live! is committed to social and environmental progress, supports its clients in promoting the environment and serving their communities by asserting itself as a local economic engine, by leading a committed approach to diversity and inclusion and by developing more responsible solutions for sites and events that respect the environment.

Sodexo offers its clients an integrated offer resulting from more than 50 years of experience, from catering, reception, maintenance and cleaning to the management of facilities and equipment; from services and programs promoting employee engagement to solutions that simplify and optimize their mobility and the management of their expenses, as well as home assistance, crèches and concierge services.

Founded in Marseille in 1966 by Pierre Bellon, Sodexo, based in Paris, is present in 64 countries and serves 100 million consumers daily through its on-site services, its benefits and rewards services and its personal and home services. Its North American headquarters is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

“Sodexo live! is the affirmation of a new ambition, because we bring together our expertise related to sport, events and hospitality under a unified global brand,” explains Nathalie Bellon-Szabo, CEO Worldwide of Sodexo Live! “With this launch, we reaffirm to our clients that we are the preferred partner to face the future and that we firmly believe in our 40,000 employees worldwide to offer them world-class, creative and value-creating services.”

Rocket League (Switch eShop)Rocket League (Switch eShop)

Editor: Psyonix Studios / Developer: Psyonix Studios

Release date: November 14, 2017 (United States) / November 14, 2017 (UK / EU)

You could Say it’s the best football game on Switch and you won’t hear any arguments from us, although it may make some football fans worse. Having said that, people tend to get exasperated over the smallest things, like using the word “football” instead of “football” for example. Sometimes you can’t win.

This is unless you play Rocket league or everybody a winner, even when you lose as much as we tend to. Combining an accessible arcade-style car experience with a floating, giant take on the beautiful game, its large amount of pop-culture DLC might appeal to people (a certain demographic will find cars like the Back to the future DeLorean, ghost hunters‘Ecto-1 and knight rideris irresistible KITT), but it’s the raucous gameplay and adrenaline rush as your team passes the ball over the line that keeps us coming back.

So here we are. Rocket League – the best football game on Switch. *short*

NBA 2K22 (Switch)NBA 2K22 (Switch)

Editor: 2K / Developer: Visual concepts

Release date: September 10, 2021 (United States) / September 10, 2021 (UK / EU)

NBA 2K22 is another great entry into the franchise that continues the developer’s habit of providing sufficiently solid ports of their basketball sims on Nintendo Switch. Yes, most modes don’t try anything very new – beyond MyCareer’s revamped neighborhood setting – and loading screens will make your hair pull your hair out every now and then, but polished core gameplay and enough content for you to play until the end times make it an easy recommendation for b-ball fans.

Alternatively, the previous entry in the series (NBA 2K21, of course) does a lot of what this game does, and probably a lot cheaper if you can still find it.

Windjammers (Switch eShop)Windjammers (Switch eShop)

Editor: Dotemu / Developer: Dotemu

Release date: October 23, 2018 (United States) / October 23, 2018 (UK / EU)

If you’re looking for nasty two-player action, the cult classic of Data East Windbreaker is just the game you are looking for. With the same fast-paced, addicting gameplay that got us hooked in 1994, you’re going to need a second player to really get the most out of it, and luckily Switch makes it easy to play with a friend. It’ll have a sequel later this year, but until then it’s the first competitive disc-based sports game on the console and worth (re) discovering.

Super Mega Baseball 3 (Switch eShop)Super Mega Baseball 3 (Switch eShop)

Editor: Metalhead software / Developer: Metalhead software

Release date: May 13, 2020 (United States) / May 13, 2020 (UK / EU)

Sony stated that MLB the show It won’t be a PS4-exclusive platform in the future, but until that happens on Switch, baseball fans should investigate Super Mega Baseball 3. What it lacks in hyperrealism and officially licensed teams it more than makes up for with a carefully tuned physics set that is deep enough to cater for. RBI Baseball players while offering the welcome addition of some enhanced modes. Franchise mode on its own seems like a fitting extension of the brand, with its irreverent sense of humor that lends a welcome undertone to an otherwise content-rich sports simulation. Super Mega Baseball 2: Ultimate Edition is still great, but the sequel just gets better and so is the best baseball game on Switch – definitely worth it if you like that sort of thing.

Neo Turf Masters (Neo Geo)Neo Turf Masters (Neo Geo)

Editor: SNK / Developer: Nazca

Release date: 1996 (United States) / July 25, 2008 (UK / EU)

A classic arcade style golf simulation from SNK, Neo Turf Masters (Where Big golf tournament in the US) has been a winner on Neo Geo, and it continues to be extremely enjoyable on Switch over the past two decades. Wearing Hamster perfectly mimics the addicting gameplay of the original which grabs you whether you’re a fan of spoiling your rides or not.

If you’re happy with a more abstract approach to hitting a small white ball into a far hole, Golf peaks is a cute little puzzle that is worth a look and is critically acclaimed What is golf? coming soon to Switch. Until Mario and his friends from Mushroom Kingdom arrive on Switch’s fairway for a twilight game, Neo Turf Masters is arguably the best pure golf game on Switch. Of course, if you want a bit more RPG with your golf game, you’ll probably want to investigate our next pick …

Golf History (Switch eShop)Golf History (Switch eShop)

Editor: Sidebar games / Developer: Sidebar games

Release date: September 28, 2017 (United States) / September 28, 2017 (UK / EU)

If you remember Mario golf of the Game Boy Color, you will have a good idea of the kind of RPG experience Golf history tees up. Fans of deep, realistic simulations might want to stay away, as Golf Story will allow you to use your ball skills in a wider range of settings than girding your Titlelist 2 down a boring old fairway. You’ll be called upon to feed hungry alligators, knock things off high surfaces, and relax with the occasional round of pitch ‘n’ putt. Not every game has to be decisive at Augusta or St Andrews, you know.

Golf Story is lightweight RPG nonsense of the highest caliber, with a healthy dose of golf. It’s a really nice indie Switch exclusive and we can’t recommend it enough if you’re a fan of RPG, golf, or gaming in general.

NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 (Switch)NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 (Switch)

Editor: Sports 2K / Developer: Interactive Saber

Release date: October 15, 2018 (United States) / October 16, 2018 (UK / EU)

If you think realism is overrated in sports video games, NBA 2K 2 Playgrounds could be exactly what you are looking for in a basketball game. Of course, it still features microtransactions and it will take you a while to take out each player (it’s still a 2K title, after all), but the basic hoop shooting experience is strong. It is not the NBA Jam-beater 2K positions it like, but if you get a buzz from big heads and a more arcade approach to the pitch, Playgrounds 2 is definitely worth it.

FIFA 19 (Switch)FIFA 19 (Switch)

Editor: Electronic arts / Developer: Electronic arts

Release date: September 28, 2018 (United States) / September 28, 2018 (UK / EU)

FIFA on Switch is weird. If you’ve never played a modern FIFA game and picked one of the Switch entries, you’d probably think it’s a good game. You wouldn’t be wrong – the basic soccer experience here is very solid. and enjoyable – but series veterans will find it hard to ignore the cut corners and caveats of the “Legacy” Switch versions. These games lack the key modes of their counterparts on PS4 and Xbox One, so if you’re a FIFA enthusiast with access to those, it’s hard to recommend these versions.

If you don’t compare alike, however, and are just looking for a good kick on Switch, FIFA 18, 19, 20 and 21 deliver a decent game, although the latter two have literally updated kits and player rosters for their respective years and nothing else. Frankly, we lost our patience with EA’s cynical attitude towards fans of the series owning Switch, so we were looking for a copy of 19.

Is it safe to attend football matches and other sporting events during a pandemic? A guide

By Sports events

The factors that made pre-pandemic sporting events fun – horny people getting together, clapping, talking, eating, drinking and sometimes doing all of these things indoors – make gambling potentially problematic now. Ignoring the risks associated with these activities could leave us “stuck in epidemic mode,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on CNN’s new day on September 7.

The coronavirus is spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes and others breathe in these droplets, or when the virus accumulates or circulates in the air. Obtaining the virus from surfaces is also possible, but it is not a primary mode of transmission, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said. The level of safety or risk may depend in part on your vaccination status, as unvaccinated people remain unprotected against the coronavirus.

Due to the way the coronavirus can be spread, indoor events are higher risk than outdoor events – so it’s important to “make sure this is an outdoor type event,” said Krystal Pollitt, assistant professor of epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health and professor chemical and environmental engineering assistant at the Yale School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The CDC recommends that unvaccinated people avoid large gatherings with other people outside their home. Of course, the safest way to enjoy big game is to watch it on TV or online. But if you choose to be there in person, here’s what you need to know about planning and attending sporting events, regardless of your immunization status.

Preparing for an in-person sporting event

Before going to a sporting event, know the number of cases of Covid-19 both where you live and where the event takes place. “The higher the transmission of COVID-19 in the community, the higher the risk of transmission” during the event, the CDC said.
Call the venue or check its website to verify if the venue follows CDC guidelines for sport events Where large gatherings, or similar advice. Some of these safety measures include holding the event outdoors, requiring all participants to wear masks, regular cleaning, and blocked seats or visual cues for physical distancing, CDC said. A higher risk event would be if it takes place in an indoor space, most people, but not all, wear masks, and the event uses only a few strategies to reduce risk. Some sites may require participants to either provide proof of a negative coronavirus test taken a few days before the full vaccination.
Indoor events need to be well ventilated, said Dr Ada Stewart, a family doctor at Cooperative Health in Columbia, South Carolina, and president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, in April. Signs of a well ventilated room include the ability to run fans and open windows or doors. High ceilings and portable air purifiers with HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are also helpful.
If knowledgeable employees are unsure of the quality of ventilation, other measures are particularly important – such as limiting the number of participants, requiring people from different households to stay at least 6 feet away from each other. other and ask that people constantly wear masks. The CDC recommended avoid large gatherings that do not have these precautions in place.
Do you have to cancel travel plans? A medical expert intervenes

If you want to be very ambitious about protecting yourself and assessing actual ventilation yourself, you can get an inexpensive carbon dioxide monitor to track concentration levels and changes over time, Pollitt said. Levels above 800 to 1,000 parts per million would be of concern, Pollitt added, because it would mean that the air is not circulating well enough.

What to do on match day

Pack hand sanitizer and more than enough masks. To reduce the risk of Delta variant infection, fully immunized people should wear masks in crowded indoor and outdoor public places in areas of high or high transmission, and if they or their roommates are immunocompromised or at higher risk. of severe Covid-19, The CDC recommended. Unvaccinated people should wear masks in these environments, regardless of the level of transmission of the coronavirus. CNN medical analyst Dr Leana Wen suggested wearing a surgical mask that is at least three ply.
What is the risk of eating inside if you are fully vaccinated? Here's what an expert says
Venues should disinfect common areas and seats at least once a day or between each match, CDC advised, but bring disinfectant wipes to use if necessary.

Eat ahead “so that your chance of not having your mask (on) is limited,” Stewart said in April.

If you don’t eat ahead, there are two issues, said Wen, who is also emergency physician and visiting professor of health policy and management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. “One is that people take off their masks to eat if they are near each other,” Wen said. “If everyone is well spaced and it’s outside, the risk is very low. But if they are close to each other and take off their masks to eat, near or inside, it increases the risk. “

Here's everything you need to know about social distancing

The other is “the people coming together,” Wen added. “Probably to get in (the game) you have to queue. This is something that is hard to avoid. But you can avoid the concession stands during peak times. So bring your own drinks if you can. . You I don’t necessarily want to have to go to a concession stand just to buy water if you need it. ”You can also bring your own snacks, but consider packing something that won’t take long to eat.

“Tailgating is another one of those centuries-old traditions,” but don’t be left behind by people outside your household, said Regina Davis Moss, associate executive director of health policy and practice at the American Public Health Association.

In all areas, not vaccinated, immunocompromised people and other vulnerable people should try to stay at least 6 feet from others as much as possible. To reduce your contact with frequently touched surfaces, opt for contactless payment when available.

If you have to use the restroom or buy food, try going during the less busy times rather than half time or downtime.

And look for other ways to reduce risk when shopping for food, Davis Moss said. When getting mustard for your hot dog, for example, be sure to use a hand sanitizer before and after because condiments “are surfaces that a lot of people are going to touch.” Condiment packs are safer.

Not yelling about a score or a bad game can be difficult, but the louder your voice, the more likely you are to produce virus-carrying droplets or aerosols if infected, even if you wear a mask. Try to keep your voice at maximum normal volume, Pollitt said.

Finally, you can leave a little before the end of the game to avoid the crowds when navigating the parking lot or in transport.

SportsHi Becomes # 2 Most Downloaded Sports App in US While Celebrating Women’s Equality Day

By Sports app

NEW YORK, August 31, 2021 / PRNewswire / – SportsHi, a unique social platform connecting students with academic and professional opportunities, is proud to announce its campaign for Women’s Equality Day. The company was the second most downloaded sports app in United States the weekend after ESPN. The platform will distribute tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to raise awareness on the anniversary of the 19th Amendment to grant suffrage to women.

The mission-driven company regularly partners with top Gen Z influencers, such as TikTokers Josh Richards and Griffin johnson and NBA All-Star André Drummond, to provide scholarships to high school and college students facing financial barriers to higher education. In August, their largest scholarship campaign to date aims to tackle the inequalities women face in sport.

The statistics on female athletes, compared to their male counterparts, are shocking, and SportsHi hopes to catalyze the movement for gender equality in sport. Girls are twice as likely to quit sports as boys at 14, and while women make up 54% of college sports teams, men receive more $ 133 million more in scholarship funding. Those numbers, along with the 60% women making up SportsHi’s user base, led the company to take to social media and spread its message.

SportsHi has partnered with a long list of organizations, athletes and influencers, including the TikTok star Anna shumate, to promote and maximize the effectiveness of their campaign. Their list of contributors includes Catapult Sports, 1-800-Flowers, Whistle, Connecticut Sun (WNBA), The Basics, Elizabeth williams (Atlanta Dream), and many more. Here’s the Caesars Sports app as William Hill on the way out

By Sports app

Kyle scott | 7 months ago

Last month, Caesars Entertainment landed William Hill Sportsbook in a nearly $ 4 billion acquisition. Despite the high price tag of acquiring the international sports games giant, you won’t see the William Hill brand for too long.

Following a multi-billion dollar acquisition by Caesars Entertainment, the William Hill Sportsbook brand will close, giving way to the Caesars Sports app in the coming months. The app is expected to quickly gain prominence in the legal online sports betting markets currently established and about to launch in the United States.

Earlier this week, Caesars Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg outlined his company’s tiered plan to aggressively enter online sports betting gambling in the United States. A brand presence quickly expanded through partnerships with the NFL and ESPN, coupled with ambitious spending, should quickly bring the Caesars Sports app into the conversation as a preferred online betting destination.

Out with William Hill, using the Caesars Sports app

Notably, Reeg revealed that Caesars intended to sell William Hill’s non-U.S. Entities and reallocate that money to his sports betting efforts in the United States.

The concentration of Caesars, one of America’s best-known video game brands, makes sense. William Hill made a dent in various online sports betting markets including New Jersey, Illinois, Colorado and Virginia among others, but he never managed to step out of the shadow of DraftKings and FanDuel. in some states, and BetMGM in others.

But with the impending name change of the Caesars Sports app, the results can be quite different. In short, there are three key variables to consider regarding its likely emergence later this year.

For Caesars Sports app, visibility is key

For starters, Caesars has positioned itself well thanks to a partnership deal with the NFL. Along with FanDuel and DraftKings, Caesars recently became one of the league’s three official sports betting partners. Having significant visibility with football fans – and punters – should help raise its visibility once the 2021 season has kicked off.

Meanwhile, Caesars is also the official provider of ESPN programming odds. This is important because ESPN has increased the elements of sports betting organically in its television programming.

Such brand visibility, coupled with what should be an aggressive spending plan in terms of advertising, marketing and new player acquisition, should bode well for future growth. In this way, Caesars could successfully gain a significant share in already established markets while positioning itself for strong launches as more states enter the fray of legal online sports betting.

A path to follow

Without a doubt, the Caesars Sports app will follow the path of rival operator BetMGM in states like Michigan.

Although BetMGM is an important player in markets like Tennessee, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, its success in the recently launched online sports betting market in Michigan proves that traditional brands can thrive against DraftKings and FanDuel.

William Hill Sports Betting

Caesars Sports app will soon replace bookmaker William Hill Sportsbook

By Sports app

Sports betting William Hill will soon be no more, and the Caesar Sports app figures to enter the current and future legal online sports betting markets in the United States as a leading player.

Following a nearly $4 billion purchase of William Hill in April, Caesars Entertainment plans to dissolve the popular British brand in a bid to launch legal sports betting in the US with the Caesars Sports app. as a motor.

During a first quarter earnings call earlier this week, Caesars Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg outlined his company’s ambitious plan. In particular, he noted the strong link between spend and market share, which means that when Caesars finalizes its plans and begins its rollout in the coming months, it will likely emerge with one or two hits of aggressive advertising campaigns and new player acquisition programs. .

While Reeg pointed to the company’s positive cash flow in the first quarter, cash freed up in the planned sale of non-U.S. assets will likely be used as part of funds allocated to what is an aggressive anticipated spend.

End of William Hill sports betting, Caesars Sports app coming soon

There are a few different dynamics to consider following the William Hill acquisition by Caesars. William Hill has become a factor in US legal sports betting markets such as New JerseyTennessee, Colorado and Virginia, but never realized its full potential, perhaps in part due to the distractions of ongoing negotiations surrounding the eventual sale.

Despite the occasional local market promotion and $2,021 risk-free bet that was available in select markets earlier this year, William Hill simply didn’t have the firepower or focus to pass some of its competition. However, with Caesars now in charge, there are a few reasons to think that a change in the power structure could be on the horizon.

As Caesars strives to launch its all-new sportsbook platform in the coming months, possibly before or during the 2021 NFL regular season, it will enjoy some unique benefits.

NFL Partnership

Along with DraftKings and FanDuel, Caesars is now one of three exclusive NFL betting partners. It will also hold the new naming rights to the New Orleans Superdome. This should add some serious weight to the brand, and as the NFL season progresses, its proximity to NFL products is driving significant interest in its sportsbook app.

Additionally, Caesars also has an agreement with ESPN to serve as their exclusive odds provider, which is no minor detail. Such brand exposure to an enthusiastic NFL (and NFL betting) audience will help raise its profile as its initial push into established and emerging markets begins.

Why the Caesars Sports app will matter

In short, Caesars, one of the largest gaming brands in the United States, is going all out in the emerging online sports betting market. The company can also look to rival operator BetMGM and its early returns, particularly in the Michigan market where it initially thrived, as a model for success.

With key partnerships in tow and a willingness to spend, Caesars has the chance to provide an exciting alternative with its rebranding in already established markets and racing into states that have yet to go live. .

The bank specifically analyzed the period after the Super Bowl played on February 2 and leading up to the NCAA tournament, which begins March 17. Morgan Stanley notes that while the increase in downloads last month was less than the 118% jump seen in January, than was expected, as the first month of the year contains the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl preparation – events that generate more gambling and apps.

From late January 2020 (a peak in downloads due to the Super Bowl) to our last data point, 4-week downloads declined (29%), similar to the comparable period last year (25%) Morgan Stanley analysts said. directed by Thomas Allen.

The research team notes that they expect app downloads this week to drop by around 35% before increasing by around 66% over the next week as gamers prepare for March Madness. Selection Sunday is March 15 and the first matches take place two days later.

Big names dominate

Last month, DraftKings and FanDuel dominated the national mobile sports betting app download market by 35% and 31%, respectively. Morgan Stanley points out that February was the first month since June 2019, when DraftKings overtook FanDuel in the download department.

Indiana, Iowa, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia are the states in which DraftKings currently offers mobile betting, according to the company’s website, and it is also close to betting. based on applications in Colorado.

FanDuel also offers mobile betting in these states and is able to add Colorado to its list in the short term as well.

At 7.5%, 6% and 5%, respectively, Fox Bet, MGM / GVC and William Hill were the next highest-ranked sportsbook operators for app downloads in February, according to Morgan Stanley.

Beyond New Jersey

New Jersey has quickly become the benchmark for online and mobile sports betting, with over 80% of bets placed in the Garden State in any given month via computers or smartphones. But other states are also experiencing growth on this border.

Indiana and Pennsylvania are examples of two states beyond New Jersey where mobile betting is taking off.

“FOX Bet Pennsylvania has recorded 2% more app downloads over Fox Bet New Jersey since its launch on September 19, and 17% more year-to-date / 15% more over the past four past few weeks, ”Morgan Stanley said.

The bank calls this a “positive” for Keystone state, as sports betting income there currently resides at about 75% of that of neighboring New Jersey.

Morgan Stanley noted that by 2025, Indiana’s sports betting market could be worth nearly $ 300 million, while Massachusetts and Virginia could reach $ 338 million and $ 212 million, respectively, assuming those two. latest legalize sports betting and online / mobile approval..

New “MyTeams by NBC Sports” App Tries to Simplify RSN Streaming

By Sports app

Sports network apps aren’t new, but NBC Sports Regional Networks’ new “MyTeams By NBC Sports” app has some interesting twists. To get started, here is a blurb of their release:

NBC Sports Regional Networks today launched MyTeams by NBC Sports, a one-of-a-kind, team-focused mobile app that gives fans personalized all-in-one access to comprehensive coverage of their favorite teams, featuring evident by the live broadcast of the matches. of their local teams. MyTeams brings together all multimedia content focused on the 25 NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB teams covered by NBC Sports Regional Networks. From now on, fans across the United States can download MyTeams for free on iOS and Android devices from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

… MyTeams is highlighted by live coverage of NBA, NHL and MLB games produced by NBC Sports Bay Area, NBC Sports Boston, NBC Sports California, NBC Sports Chicago, NBC Sports Northwest, NBC Sports Philadelphia and NBC Sports Washington. Live broadcasts of the networks’ pre-game and post-game shows, including NFL programming, will also be available on MyTeams. Live match coverage will automatically stream to the top of the respective team pages when available to fans. Authenticated subscribers of the local NBC Sports Regional Network providing coverage in their area will be able to watch full live matches and game day broadcasts, as well as the network’s linear television channel, from anywhere in the United States. no additional cost.

The claim of “the first team-focused mobile app” seems a bit of a stretch, considering previous offerings from Bleacher Report, ESPN, The Score, Big Ten Network, and many more (with all of those including customization of the website). ‘team, and some of them including live game broadcasts). There were previously opportunities for RSN subscribers to stream live match coverage through the NBC Sports app.

But the MyTeams approach seems like an easier way to find coverage for a particular team, and it also seems to offer more opportunities to broadcast on match day (pre and post-match shows) as well. as the linear RSN channel. And focusing on particular teams seems useful; that way, fans of a team in a city who don’t follow all of the teams in that city should be able to see only what interests them. Also, it makes sense to separate the content of the NBC Sports regional networks app from the regular content of the NBC / NBCSN app available on the NBC Sports app, as this could make it easier to find particular games or content. (and easier to get technical support if something goes wrong).

It should be noted that this only affects a few teams in particular: six NFL teams, seven NBA teams, five NHL teams, and seven MLB teams. But it’s a notable development nonetheless, and it comes on top of some of the unconventional moves NBC Sports is trying with its regional networks. This includes over-the-top streaming of Blazers game packages (back for a second year) and over-the-top off-market access to pre-game and post-game content on NBC Sports Philadelphia. . We’ll see what they do next.

NBC Sports app is coming to Xbox One just in time for the Olympics

By Sports app

The opening ceremonies for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics took place last night to kick off the event that will take place over the past two weeks. NBC Sports is the exclusive provider of the Olympics in the United States and they have now launched their NBC Sports app for Xbox One just in time.

NBC previously had their own app for Xbox One where people could watch shows, but now they also have their own NBC Sports app not only for the Olympics but also for many NBC events in the future like the games of NFL Sunday Night football. This news came from an NBC press release for the app.

“The Olympics are coming to Xbox and Samsung devices thanks to the NBC Sports app. NBC Sports Groups announced that its live streaming product is now available for the Xbox streaming platform and select Samsung devices to authenticated pay TV subscribers. The platforms join Amazon Fire, Apple TV, Chromecast, Comcast’s X1, Roku, Win10, Apple iOS and Android devices that will have access to over 4,500 hours of NBC streaming for the 2016 Summer Olympics. “

The only downside here is that you will need to subscribe to cable TV which defeats the purpose somewhat as you might just be watching on TV. The good news is that there are quite a few cable TV providers you can connect with, so there’s a good chance your business will be on the list.

In total, the NBC Sports app will offer over 4,500 hours of streaming coverage of the Rio 2016 Olympics, so be sure to download the app if you plan to watch some of the events between your gaming sessions.

NBC Sports app no longer supports games on Windows 10 and Xbox

By Sports app

nbc-sports-app

NBC Sports’ coverage of the 2016/17 Premier League season began with a blow on opening day when Microsoft Windows 10 and Xbox One users discovered they couldn’t use the NBC app Sports to watch the most exciting football league in the world.

The NBC Sports app, formerly known as NBC Sports Live Extra, allows football fans in the United States to stream every game of the Premier League season on computers, smartphones, game consoles, Roku and other devices over the top. The NBC Sports app was recently updated to work on Windows 10. However, the NBC Sports app for Windows 10 and Xbox One does not work for Premier League games, although it does work for Olympic coverage.

On the opening day of the season, football fans unable to watch Premier League games with the NBC Sports app flocked to social media to express their frustration at not being able to watch their favorite team online. Windows 10 software works on personal computers, but also on tablets and the Xbox One game console. The NBC Sports app, however, works on Windows 10 mobile.

According to an NBC Sports spokesperson, Premier League coverage on the NBC Sports app does not support Windows 10 and Xbox One platforms, but they are working to do so in the future.

The news that an update is in the works will not appease many fans who expect the NBC Sports app to be fixed as soon as possible, especially since the Olympics will not be completed before the end of August and that NBC Sports has not given a date when to expect the application to be fixed for the Premier League.

The fact that the NBC Sports app does not support Windows 10 and Xbox One is ironic given that one of NBC’s sponsors (see screenshot above) during Premier League coverage is Microsoft Surface Pro 4, which runs Windows 10.

Solutions? One recommendation is that Windows 10 and/or Xbox One users consider purchasing a Roku stick, which can be purchased for $40. As long as you subscribe to NBCSN and CNBC through your TV provider, you’ll be able to watch the games on your Roku (and on your TV). The alternative is to hope that your favorite team will be shown on TV and/or in Premier League overtime so you don’t miss a game.

You can also buy a Google Chromecast ($35), plug it into your Xbox One HDMI, download the NBC Sports app to your phone, then connect and stream your phone’s games to your Xbox One console.

The last option is to check if the old NBC Sports Live Extra app is installed on your Windows 10 computer. If so, it should be able to play Premier League games instead of the NBC Sports App version.

Yahoo brings real money to its fantasy sports app

By Sports app
The new Fantasy Sports feature allows users to play daily games, instead of contests that last an entire sports season.

Yahoo hopes to score points by expanding its already popular Fantasy Sports app.

The internet giant announced on Wednesday that it will host daily and weekly fantasy sports games where users can place real bets. Previously, Yahoo’s service only offered one-season contests.

In fantasy sports, users assemble a team of basketball, football, or baseball players and then earn points based on how well those players perform in real-life games. Yahoo is already a top brand in the world of fantasy sports providers, alongside companies like ESPN and CBS. (CBS is the parent company of CNET.)

Yahoo has good reason to push further into fantasy sports. Viewership for the hobby grew 40% last year, with more than 56 million people playing in the United States and Canada, according to the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. The average player also spends $465 a year on contest fees, according to the trade association.

Fantasy sports have been a beacon of hope for Yahoo, with CEO Marissa Mayer still working to turn the struggling company around. Since taking the helm three years ago, Mayer has tried to remake the company for the mobile age as consumers spend more time on their smartphones and tablets than on desktops and laptops. . But while it revamped all of Yahoo’s mobile apps and services — from Yahoo Mail to Weather to Finance — the company still faces declining revenue.

With its new feature, Yahoo hopes to capitalize on the growing popularity of daily contests. Fanduel, which also offers daily fantasy sports games, has the support of top investors like NBC Sports and the NBA. DraftKings, another rival, reportedly secured an investment from ESPN owner Disney, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Adding daily games will help Yahoo’s app appeal to “modern fans,” Simon Khalaf, Yahoo’s senior vice president of product and engineering, said in a statement.

For now, Yahoo’s daily contests focus only on Major League Baseball, but the company will add other sports at the start of their professional seasons. At launch, entry into daily games ranges from $1 or $5 or as low as $250. Prizes for winners can reach $50,000.
