Unvaccinated New Yorkers with tickets to sporting events face a dilemma

By Sports events

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB– Following an explosive announcement by Governor Kathy Hochul on vaccine requirements at sporting events, many ticket holders were left with questions.

If around 30% of Erie County is unvaccinated, that means several thousand fans with tickets now have just over a week to decide whether they want to get their first vaccine or sell their tickets. One, Kylie, sells her tickets to the Eric Church concert 10 days before it performs at KeyBank Center.

She says she doesn’t feel comfortable getting the required vaccine. “Those who go, I hope they enjoy the shows, and those who can’t, stand firm and do what you think is right for you,” Kylie said.

Kristen Pachucki is also selling her tickets on Facebook for less than face value because she can’t be sure she will be refunded. “We contacted the insurance company because we purchased insurance for them, and we also contacted Ticketmaster and Key Bank, and we didn’t hear anything,” she said. “Except that Ticketmaster has said that currently their policy is not changing.”

Nick Giammusso runs VIP TIX, which resells tickets. He said that while Bills season ticket holders can get a refund if they sign up by Friday night, they will lose their seniority. “It’s frustrating because we don’t have the answers right now,” Giammusso said. “Fans would use a service like ours to resell their tickets so they can keep their seniority. ”

Attorney Corey Hogan said his office was considering legal action based on the flood of calls he had received regarding vaccine needs at Highmark Stadium and KeyBank Center. “I have now probably received between 75 and a hundred calls from obviously very upset and unhappy fans, believing that the Bills have pulled the rug out from under them,” he said.

Many Bills tickets and concert tickets will likely sell for less than market value over the next few days due to this new rule and the uncertainty of refunds.

POC fights for the funding of four major international sporting events in 2022 │ GMA News Online

By Sports events

The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) is pushing for funding for four major international sporting events next year under the General Appropriation Act (GAA) of 2022.

In a statement on Wednesday, POC Chairman Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino said the House and Senate had pledged to include funding for the Beijing Winter Olympics (February 4-20), the Asian Games Thailand Martial Arts and Martial Arts Games (March 10-20), Huangzhou Asian Games (September 10-25) and Shantou Youth Asian Games (December 20-28).

“Speaker of the House Lord Velasco and Speaker of the Senate Vicente Sotto III have ensured budget inclusion for four major international competitions next year,” Tolentino said.

“This after the Ministry of Budget and Management did not award a single centavo to the Philippine Sports Commission [PSC] budget for these big events.

Tolentino, also the head of cycling, added that the CEP will now determine the composition of the delegation for each major event to determine the necessary budget.

“Budget hearings are approaching, so we have to be firm,” Tolentino said. “Philippine sport must be steadfast as we must maintain the momentum of our successful campaign at the Tokyo Olympics.”

On Tuesday, the POC already announced that it will send a delegation of 160 people to AIMAG 2021 where the Philippines will participate in 21 of the 31 sports.

In the 2018 Asian Games, the Philippines won four gold medals as well as two silver and 15 bronze plums.

Meanwhile, figure skaters Edrian Celestino and Sofia Frank will battle for a spot in Beijing as part of an Olympic qualification in Germany later this month.

Is it safe to attend football matches and other sporting events during a pandemic? A guide

By Sports events

The factors that made pre-pandemic sporting events fun – horny people getting together, clapping, talking, eating, drinking and sometimes doing all of these things indoors – make gambling potentially problematic now. Ignoring the risks associated with these activities could leave us “stuck in epidemic mode,” Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on CNN’s new day on September 7.

The coronavirus is spread when an infected person coughs or sneezes and others breathe in these droplets, or when the virus accumulates or circulates in the air. Obtaining the virus from surfaces is also possible, but it is not a primary mode of transmission, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has said. The level of safety or risk may depend in part on your vaccination status, as unvaccinated people remain unprotected against the coronavirus.

Due to the way the coronavirus can be spread, indoor events are higher risk than outdoor events – so it’s important to “make sure this is an outdoor type event,” said Krystal Pollitt, assistant professor of epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health and professor chemical and environmental engineering assistant at the Yale School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The CDC recommends that unvaccinated people avoid large gatherings with other people outside their home. Of course, the safest way to enjoy big game is to watch it on TV or online. But if you choose to be there in person, here’s what you need to know about planning and attending sporting events, regardless of your immunization status.

Preparing for an in-person sporting event

Before going to a sporting event, know the number of cases of Covid-19 both where you live and where the event takes place. “The higher the transmission of COVID-19 in the community, the higher the risk of transmission” during the event, the CDC said.
Call the venue or check its website to verify if the venue follows CDC guidelines for sport events Where large gatherings, or similar advice. Some of these safety measures include holding the event outdoors, requiring all participants to wear masks, regular cleaning, and blocked seats or visual cues for physical distancing, CDC said. A higher risk event would be if it takes place in an indoor space, most people, but not all, wear masks, and the event uses only a few strategies to reduce risk. Some sites may require participants to either provide proof of a negative coronavirus test taken a few days before the full vaccination.
Indoor events need to be well ventilated, said Dr Ada Stewart, a family doctor at Cooperative Health in Columbia, South Carolina, and president of the American Academy of Family Physicians, in April. Signs of a well ventilated room include the ability to run fans and open windows or doors. High ceilings and portable air purifiers with HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filters are also helpful.
If knowledgeable employees are unsure of the quality of ventilation, other measures are particularly important – such as limiting the number of participants, requiring people from different households to stay at least 6 feet away from each other. other and ask that people constantly wear masks. The CDC recommended avoid large gatherings that do not have these precautions in place.
Do you have to cancel travel plans? A medical expert intervenes

If you want to be very ambitious about protecting yourself and assessing actual ventilation yourself, you can get an inexpensive carbon dioxide monitor to track concentration levels and changes over time, Pollitt said. Levels above 800 to 1,000 parts per million would be of concern, Pollitt added, because it would mean that the air is not circulating well enough.

What to do on match day

Pack hand sanitizer and more than enough masks. To reduce the risk of Delta variant infection, fully immunized people should wear masks in crowded indoor and outdoor public places in areas of high or high transmission, and if they or their roommates are immunocompromised or at higher risk. of severe Covid-19, The CDC recommended. Unvaccinated people should wear masks in these environments, regardless of the level of transmission of the coronavirus. CNN medical analyst Dr Leana Wen suggested wearing a surgical mask that is at least three ply.
What is the risk of eating inside if you are fully vaccinated? Here's what an expert says
Venues should disinfect common areas and seats at least once a day or between each match, CDC advised, but bring disinfectant wipes to use if necessary.

Eat ahead “so that your chance of not having your mask (on) is limited,” Stewart said in April.

If you don’t eat ahead, there are two issues, said Wen, who is also emergency physician and visiting professor of health policy and management at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health. “One is that people take off their masks to eat if they are near each other,” Wen said. “If everyone is well spaced and it’s outside, the risk is very low. But if they are close to each other and take off their masks to eat, near or inside, it increases the risk. “

Here's everything you need to know about social distancing

The other is “the people coming together,” Wen added. “Probably to get in (the game) you have to queue. This is something that is hard to avoid. But you can avoid the concession stands during peak times. So bring your own drinks if you can. . You I don’t necessarily want to have to go to a concession stand just to buy water if you need it. ”You can also bring your own snacks, but consider packing something that won’t take long to eat.

“Tailgating is another one of those centuries-old traditions,” but don’t be left behind by people outside your household, said Regina Davis Moss, associate executive director of health policy and practice at the American Public Health Association.

In all areas, not vaccinated, immunocompromised people and other vulnerable people should try to stay at least 6 feet from others as much as possible. To reduce your contact with frequently touched surfaces, opt for contactless payment when available.

If you have to use the restroom or buy food, try going during the less busy times rather than half time or downtime.

And look for other ways to reduce risk when shopping for food, Davis Moss said. When getting mustard for your hot dog, for example, be sure to use a hand sanitizer before and after because condiments “are surfaces that a lot of people are going to touch.” Condiment packs are safer.

Not yelling about a score or a bad game can be difficult, but the louder your voice, the more likely you are to produce virus-carrying droplets or aerosols if infected, even if you wear a mask. Try to keep your voice at maximum normal volume, Pollitt said.

Finally, you can leave a little before the end of the game to avoid the crowds when navigating the parking lot or in transport.

Spectators are welcome at Ithaca College sporting events, indoor masks mandatory

By Sports events

The Ithaca College Bombers will host spectators at home for the 2021-2022 academic year, the College said in a statement this week. “Currently, we are operating at full capacity for indoor and outdoor sites,” they say.

Face coverings will be required at all times in indoor facilities, regardless of immunization status, the college said. Face coverings will be encouraged for all spectators at outdoor venues, and face coverings and a distance of six feet, where possible, will be required for unvaccinated individuals at outdoor venues.

“Spectators can temporarily remove their masks indoors for a drink, but must immediately put their masks back on when they have finished drinking,” the statement said. “Limited concessions may be available at certain home sporting events. Spectators may bring water or non-alcoholic beverages to the competition site. Food will not be allowed in indoor areas. “

According to Ithaca College, friends and family members of student-athletes will not be allowed in the playing area, that is, on the field or the sports field, and “will not be able to approach them. players, coaches or officials before or after the competition “. Spectators may plan to meet the players after the event away from the venue.

“Ithaca College’s policies and COVID-19 protocols were developed with information released by the NCAA and the Liberty League, as well as state and local health authorities,” they said. Policies are subject to change.

IC Bombers volleyball, soccer, field hockey and golf are underway for the fall season. Tennis, cross-country and crew begin in the next few days.

Some fans are applauding the proof of vaccination for sporting events. Others ask for refunds

By Sports events

A team official even said the rule will increase attendance by reassuring fans that they can safely gather, shout and sing.

90 minutes south of Oregon State’s Reser Stadium in Corvallis, the same policy gets a very different answer. A new college rule requiring vaccination or a negative test to attend home football games, which begin on September 11, has so far prompted requests for reimbursement or future credit for around 250 football season tickets.

As for those who are happy with the additional measures, “I haven’t heard from anyone from that point of view,” OSU Vice President and Sporting Director Scott Barnes said.

Covid-19 testing requirements for sporting events are expanding nationwide to include proof of vaccination, as the highly contagious Delta variant is filling intensive care beds even in states like Oregon, which have largely avoided the worst infection rates earlier in the pandemic.

The small but growing list of teams requiring a vaccination or negative test include the NBA Toronto Raptors and Portland Trail Blazers, the NFL Las Vegas Raiders and New Orleans Saints, and the LSU, Boston College, the ‘Oregon and Oregon State in college football. Some teams act on their own, while others follow the changing rules of parent company or public health officials as infections increase.

Last Friday, the US Open of Tennis announced that it would require proof of at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine for entry to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, NY. Play in the main draw of the tournament started on Monday.

“I think that’s where it’s going to go,” said Mike Golub, president of Portland Timbers and Thorns affairs, which announced its vax / test policy in mid-August. “We thought it was the right thing to do.”

As new policies emerge, reactions to them often follow regional politics, with Democrats expressing greater confidence in Covid-19 vaccines than Republicans. In the three counties that encompass Democrat-controlled Portland, between 66% and 74% of the population is fully vaccinated, well above the national rate of 53%.

“We are closely monitoring the number of our tickets that are sold in the secondary market,” Golub said of the Timbers and Thorns. “And we are carefully monitoring tickets that are not exchanged, that is, tickets that are not used.”

Both figures, he said, are “significantly higher” than they were before the pandemic. With Covid-19’s stricter entry rules, Golub said with “great confidence” that match attendance will increase.

The total of 14,299 in Thorns’ game against NJ / NY Gotham FC last Wednesday, when the policy took effect, was down about 2,000 from a home game earlier in August. A spokesperson for the team attributed the drop to the match being on a Wednesday and said the vaccine requirement was “widely adopted by our fans.”

The state of Oregon and Oregon are respectively 90 minutes and two hours south of Portland in adjacent counties. School athletic departments, which draw fans to the city as well as rural counties with full immunization rates below 50%, have seen mixed reactions to their recently announced terms.

Oregon’s pre-season ranked No.11 football season kicks off Saturday against Fresno State in Eugene, the first time in 22 months that Autzen Stadium has welcomed post-season Ducks football fans. of last year, shortened by the pandemic and without fans.

Late last week, former Oregon student Stephanie Penrod said she was told the athletics department would not issue any refunds and was waiting to receive a response on her request. to postpone its subscriptions to next year.

A spokesperson for the Oregon track team said fan feedback on the vaccination policy was very positive and officials were discussing with affected customers their options, including credits and refunds. .

“One of the main reasons I’m upset is that I feel like they’re targeting unvaccinated people, that we might as well wear a scarlet letter,” said Penrod, a mother of three from. 43 years old who lives in Portland. She said she felt the Covid-19 vaccines had not been proven to work without long-term studies.

Requiring everyone to test negative rather than vaccination would be fairer, she said, but added that it is difficult to get regular test results on short notice.

“Most of the seats are reserved,” she said.

In the state of Oregon, football season tickets lost so far due to fan objections to the new restrictions represent less than 2% of the 13,900 total, said Barnes, the athletic director.

“The things that are not known, obviously, are: has this announcement somehow slowed down new season ticket purchases?” Said Barnes. “What will happen to the single game – we are also counting on the single game buyers. That impact? Remains to be determined.

Across the country last spring, a handful of teams reserved a few sections for vaccinated fans, starting with the NBA’s Miami Heat. The New York Knicks later said they would require fans to be vaccinated to attend the second round of the playoffs, then lost in the first round. The Knicks have not announced a policy for this season, which begins in October.

The teams making the rules strongly urge fans to arrive early and have their documents ready: usually a vaccination card, a negative test result within 48-72 hours of the event’s start time, or a photo of one or the other. The policies generally apply to persons 12 years of age and over.

Rules in the sport come as more and more large companies require employees to be vaccinated and the world’s largest concert organizer, Live Nation Entertainment Inc., will demand proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test to enter all its sites and festivals from in October.

Susie and Charlie Dugal, who have held a New Orleans Saints membership for 23 years, said the August 23 crowd for Jacksonville at the Caesars Superdome was smaller than usual for a pre-season game. Match officials, enforcing a new city rule, asked fans to show a negative test or proof of at least one shot from Covid-19, which fans could get outside the stadium.

The Dugals are both vaccinated and were happy to be back at the stadium that day. The two had Covid-19 a year ago, with Susie having spent two months in the hospital. Following this infection, she uses a small tank of oxygen that Charlie usually carries.

“I just have to stay close to him,” she said.

Increase in attendance at sporting events from September 6

By Sports events

Sports stadiums can return to 50% of their capacity from September 6, as the government has announced plans to lift most Covid-19 restrictions in Ireland over the next two months.

Speaking to government buildings this evening, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the restrictions would be “gradually and carefully relaxed in September”, before a “significant change in approach” in October.

From September 6, outdoor events will be allowed to operate at 75% of their capacity, provided participants are fully immunized.

However, for events where clients have mixed immunity status, capacity will remain capped at 50% and subject to protective measures such as social distancing between groups and wearing face masks.

All other restrictions on indoor and outdoor sporting events must be lifted on October 22.

The announcement will allow for greater participation in events such as League of Ireland fixtures and race meetings.

The All-Ireland football final between Mayo and Tyrone on September 11 was already scheduled to take place in front of 40,000 spectators, although it remains to be seen whether the easing of restrictions will facilitate a much larger crowd.

At this time, the GAA does not limit participation to those who have been vaccinated, although it has previously indicated that it will consider any requests from the government on how it is handling events at Croke Park.

VANCOUVER, Aug. 23 (Reuters) – The Canadian province of British Columbia will require customers of non-essential businesses such as restaurants and movie theaters to be vaccinated against COVID-19 starting September 13, the government said on Monday.

The vaccine requirement will also cover fitness studios as well as indoor sporting events, concerts, weddings and other private and public social events, health officials said.

British Columbia, Canada’s westernmost province, reports some of the country’s highest rates of new COVID-19 cases per capita and recently mandatory vaccines for long-term care home staff. The province reported 663 new cases on Friday, the most recent data available. Read more

People wishing to enter a non-essential business must have at least one dose of the vaccine starting September 13 and both doses by October 24, Premier John Horgan said.

“There is no reason that those who wish to participate in the social and economic life of our community cannot take this next step and get this safe and effective vaccine,” Horgan told reporters.

Quebec was the first province to introduce vaccine passports for non-essential businesses earlier in August.

Vaccination warrants are becoming an electoral issue in the current federal election in Canada, which Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called on August 15.

Trudeau’s center-left Liberal Party introduced mandatory vaccines for federal workers before the election called and supported calls for new mandates, as have left-wing New Democrats. The Conservative Party of Canada has said that such mandates will hamper individual freedom. Read more

Currently, 73% of Canadians aged 12 and over are fully immunized, according to government data. The majority of Canadians are in favor of blanket immunization mandates, according to a Nanos Research poll in early August, with 74% in favor or somewhat in favor of such a measure.

Boise State Athletics Launches New Sports App For Stats, Tickets & More – The Arbiter

By Sports app

Accessing all of the latest sports news from Boise State just got a lot easier. With the launch of the Boise State Broncos Athletics app, fans will have multiple resources and features compiled in one place.

Released on August 2, the new sports app launched just before the start of sporting events so fans don’t miss it. The app is free and can be downloaded from Google Play and the Apple App Store.

According to the creators of the app, they had only one goal: to deliver an amazing product.

Graduate Marketing Assistant Amber Dalgleish, Community & Fan Engagement Director Cameron Howard, Assistant Sports Director Matt Thomas and many more worked on the design of this app with Boise fans in mind. State.

“We really wanted to focus on engaging students and trying to be more active in our community by reaching out and bonding with them more,” said Dalgleish. “We have tried to give the fans the best experience outside of match days.”

From team schedules to sports news, the app has it all. It includes schedules and rosters for each Boise State Athletics team, a fan guide, and a map showing sports venues and places to purchase items such as tickets, merchandise, and concessions.

“We took everything from team rosters to fan guides and put everything in one place,” Howard said.

According to app developers, their favorite part of the app is the shopping feature. Users can purchase tickets, merchandise, and concessions during the game through the app.

“One really cool feature that I’m excited about is the way our app is integrated with our Ticketmaster system, as well as a mobile ordering system for dealerships,” Thomas said. “You can place your order on your phone and then go pick it up. This dramatically decreases the wait time and saves you from missing out on the action, stepping out on The Blue or inside the arena.

The app also offers a rewards program for all app users. Users can earn points by attending games and events which can be used for in-app rewards and will stay with the user until the end of the year.

If fans save enough points, they can redeem them for prizes like gift cards, Boise State products, AirPods, or even a 40-inch Samsung TV.

If fans want these prices, however, they should save their points quickly as the premium prices are limited. Fortunately, the prices are updated seasonally, so more prices will be added than the reward points can buy.

“If you want to start earning rewards, start building them now so you can be the first to get the highest prizes,” Dalgleish said.

California Tightens Vaccination Requirements Concerts, Sporting Events – Deadline

By Sports events

Today, the California Department of Public Health increased the requirements already in place for indoor mega-events in the state, announcing that proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test within 72 hours of an event will be required. for indoor gatherings where 1,000 participants or spectators or more are in attendance. This includes concerts, sporting events, festivals and fairs.

Currently, a vaccination check or negative pre-entry test is required when there are 5,000 or more people for an indoor event. In addition, self-attestation to verify vaccination status will no longer be accepted. The changes will remain in effect until November 1, 2021.

“The Delta variant has been shown to be highly transmissible, which makes it easier to spread in large crowds where people are close to each other for long periods of time,” said Dr Tomás J. Aragón, director of the CDPH and responsible for state public health. “By requiring that individuals be vaccinated or tested negative for COVID-19 during major events, we reduce the risk of infection, hospitalization and death.”

On Monday, Los Angeles County announced that guests at all outdoor events attended by more than 10,000 people are also expected to wear masks starting at 11:59 p.m. tomorrow.

California’s announcement of the restriction was accompanied by statements from two of the state’s largest event companies.

“Vaccination and health check-up requirements ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy live music while encouraging even more people to get vaccinated, which is why Live Nation has made it standard in our venues and festivals across the country. We fully support California’s efforts and will stand together in continuing to bring live music back to the Golden State, ”said Michael Rapino, President and CEO of Live Nation Entertainment.

“Today’s announcement adds another layer of protection to make our state, sites and communities safer. Our fans, team members and families all want to feel as protected as possible from COVID-19 while enjoying our favorite concerts and sporting events. We are proud to partner with public health officials to continue to play a role in encouraging those who have not been vaccinated to follow the advice of medical experts, ”said Dan Beckerman, President and CEO of AEG.

The announcement comes on the same day that Garth Brooks canceled his next five performances on the tour, citing an increase in Covid cases across the country.

“Paying on the spot will still be available, with a credit card reader as well, but we’re really pushing for everyone to pre-order their tickets online to make it easier to get into the stadium to get into the games, so in order to to mitigate any possible future COVID restrictions for tickets or things of that nature. “

Every Monday, the website will post all of the week’s home games for fans to order their tickets, just like any other online purchase. There will be a nominal convenience fee for all online ticket purchases which, according to Ticket Spicket, are “by far the lowest additional convenience fees charged to fans by any of the online ticketing providers. industry. Our goal is to help increase ticket sales and boost fan engagement without overwhelming your students and their families. “

Tickets purchased online will be emailed to the person who ordered the tickets, and they will then print the tickets or bring their phone with them to the game to have the barcode scanned before entry.

“We are working in this direction to start pushing this into the future,” said Fuhrmann. “We can’t go straight cold” to digital tickets. “We’re ultimately looking to become completely cashless for the future – not necessarily because of COVID, but not to have money on hand for security concerns. It is mainly to help with bookkeeping.

Fuhrmann noted that he is still working on other logistical things to, he hopes, include a season pass to be purchased online, but for now, those wishing to purchase this option should head to the main office of the high school to complete it. transaction.

“Tom Cruise was at Goodwood, Wimbledon and the Euro final on the same day. Anyone else should have used understudies for this feat, ”wrote one Twitter user, praising the actor’s efforts. Fans have called the actor’s day “impossible”, just like the ones he does all the time in his action-packed movies.

A student guide entering to obtain tickets to sporting events at UNC

By Sports events

While watching sports on TV is great, most fans will tell you that the experience is greatly enhanced by attending games in person, especially at Chapel Hill. Securing your ticket to a game is paramount to the overall sporting experience at UNC, and here’s how to do it.

Soccer

There is a lot of hype surrounding the football team this year after last season’s run at the Orange Bowl, and students will want to be at Kenan Memorial Stadium to see it.

Student football tickets are available through a lottery process for most home games throughout the season. The lottery opens 10 days before each game and students have 48 hours to participate.

The timing of lottery entries does not affect the odds of getting a ticket – anyone who registers at any time during the 48 hour period has an equal chance of winning.

Students find out if they won by email five days before the game, and winners receive their tickets in another email three days later. Students who do not receive lottery tickets can join the queue on match day. All student tickets become void after kick-off, and those unused tickets go to the students in the queue.

All student ticket holders can enter the stadium 90 minutes before kick-off.

Men’s basketball

Then began the Hubert Davis era. When students enter the Dean E. Smith Center to watch the Tar Heels game, they can sense the historic significance of the basketball program.

Similar to football, a student ticket lottery system is in effect for home basketball games throughout the season, with the exception of exhibitions and certain non-conference games, which are open to students according to the first come, first served principle.

The winners receive their tickets by email five days before the match and the tickets are divided into three phases.

Students with Phase 1 tickets can enter the Smith Center an hour and a half before departure, Phase 2 an hour before, and Phase 3 half an hour before.

As with football, unused tickets become void at the time of the game and there is a queue for students who have not received lottery tickets.

Carolina fever

Carolina Fever is a rewards program in which students earn points for each “Fever” event they participate in. Students don’t need to register for the program – they just swipe their OneCards to the games.

The top 200 students in the points standings receive a ticket for each home football match. The top 150 receive Phase 1 tickets to every men’s basketball game at home – one for the game against Duke and two for every other game.

Students can check the Carolina fever website to see which events will earn them points for the season.

Other sports

Other UNC sporting events are free for students and simply require a OneCard to participate.

New limit of 500 fans for advanced outdoor sporting events

By Sports events

The government has advanced the new limit of 500 fans for outdoor sporting events to this Saturday. The easing was originally scheduled for Monday, July 5, but earlier Wednesday morning Sports Minister Jack Chambers announced on Twitter that weekend GAA matches could benefit from the new upper limit.

“Small but big change for sporting events. The increase in the number of spectators is applicable from this Saturday July 3 to facilitate the increase in attendance for this weekend’s matches. Further proposals for increased capacity and connections are being developed for July and August. “

This means that in venues with a capacity of 5,000 or more, 500 spectators will be allowed to attend – an increase of 300 from what has been put in place to date. Smaller capacity venues will see the number of authorized attendees double from 100 to 200.

The coming weekend is a very busy one for GAA Championship matches with football championships in Connacht, Leinster and Ulster and hurling championship semi-finals in Leinster and Munster. There are also games in the McDonagh, Ring, Rackard and Meagher Cups of hurling.

The move comes too early for Friday night’s All-Ireland minor semi-final between Limerick and Galway at Ennis, which will be subject to the old limit.

Counties were hoping the new crowd limit would be brought forward after Croke Park got the nod to allow 8,000 to attend Saturday’s Leinster semi-finals.

Other pilot events this weekend are the Connacht football semi-final between Roscommon and Galway at Dr Hyde Park, which will feature 1,049 people, and the Munster hurling semi-final between Limerick and Cork on Saturday evening, which will feature 2 400.

In Ulster where the 500 limit was already in effect, this means Saturday’s Monaghan-Fermanagh quarter-final will now have the same capacity as Antrim and Armagh on Sunday.

The opening of Euro 2020 marks the return of large-scale sporting events

By Sports events

ROME (AP) — Postponed a year, the biggest sporting event since the coronavirus brought the world to a standstill kicked off at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico on Friday — a milestone for both European and global sport.

The opening match of the European Football Championship was played in the Italian capital, the first country outside of Asia to be hit by the pandemic and the first in the world to implement a nationwide lockdown. Italy delighted the masked home fans by beating Turkey 3-0, scoring all the goals in the second half.

The tournament represents a major step forward on the road to recovery from one of the darkest chapters in the continent’s history since World War II. More than a million Europeans have died in the pandemic, including nearly 127,000 Italians.

“After everything that’s happened, now the situation is improving, I think the time has come to start giving the fans something to be happy about,” said Italy coach Roberto Mancini, who tested positive. to COVID-19 in November but was asymptomatic.

The tournament was postponed last March when countries scrambled to contain virus outbreaks and major sporting events around the world were canceled or suspended.

Many fear it’s still not safe to pack tens of thousands of fans into stadiums across Europe, but organizers hope measures such as crowd limits, staggered arrival times for fans , social distancing rules and plenty of hand sanitizers will help prevent a resurgence of viral infections. , which have fallen sharply in Europe in recent months.

In Rome, fans entering the stadium are required to bring documentation proving they have been vaccinated against the virus, tested negative within 48 hours of the game or already had the disease.

The sports world is watching. If all goes well, Euro 2020 can provide a boost of confidence for other major sporting events, such as the Tokyo Olympics, which are due to open on July 23 – also a year late. If not, it would be a serious setback that could have ramifications beyond football.

“Let’s hope for the best,” said Alessandro Savelloni, a 36-year-old Roman enjoying a beer with his wife at a street bar before the game. “We are emerging from a dark period. People need freedom. To resume a normal life.

The virus has already had an impact on the tournament, which for the first time is not hosted by one or two nations but is spread across the continent with matches in 11 cities.

Spain captain Sergio Busquets has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the team’s opener against Sweden in Sevilla on Monday. Another Spanish player tested positive, as did two Swedish players. The Spanish team were vaccinated on Friday.

Russian winger Andrey Mostovoy then became the first player to be kicked out of a national team Friday after testing positive.

Italy’s opener brought together the biggest crowd in the country since its full lockdown 15 months ago, even though the stadium was only 25 per cent full.

Tenor Andrea Bocelli, who recovered from COVID-19 in 2020, delivered a powerful rendition of Giacomo Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma” during the opening ceremony. Bocelli touched the hearts of millions in Italy and beyond when he performed a solo concert in Milan’s empty cathedral over Easter last year. Milan is the capital of the Lombardy region, at the time the epicenter of the pandemic in Europe.

In Rome and elsewhere in Italy, most virus restrictions have now been lifted. A midnight curfew and the obligation to wear a mask outside one’s home are the most tangible ways in which the pandemic is still affecting the daily lives of citizens.

Shops, restaurants, gyms, museums and theaters have reopened. Roman traffic returned to its usual chaotic state, with swarms of scooters vying for space on the lanes with honking cars. Tourists return too, although the historic center with its famous monuments remains less crowded than is normal for this time of year.

Metin Karagulle, a Turkish fan riding past the Colosseum on an electric scooter before the match, said being in Rome for the tournament opener was an “unforgettable” moment.

Italy still bans non-essential travel from Turkey, but many Turkish fans living in other European countries have traveled to Rome to support their national team.

Italian fans who watched the match on a big screen in a town center square were as thrilled with the victory as they were able to share the experience with each other.

“It was very moving, very beautiful,” said Rome resident Federico Riva. “The atmosphere, the fact that we were in the crowd, it’s something that we all missed. The stadium full of supporters, we needed all that, we really needed it. “

Spectators at trial sporting events must abide by new code of conduct

By Sports events

All spectators at the 16 pilot test events will be required to abide by a code of conduct which includes remaining seated whenever possible and avoiding contact with others outside of their social bubbles.

Spectators will also be required to wear a face covering at all times, download the HSE Covid-19 contract tracking app and follow the advice of staff and stewards.

Pilot events include GAA, camogie and women’s football, League of Ireland matches, rugby matches and other sports such as golf and athletics.

The first events take place on Friday and include Leinster v Dragons at RDS, Shamrock Rovers v Finn Harps at Tallaght Stadium and Cork City v Cabinteely at Turner’s Cross.

Stadiums with a capacity of more than 5,000 people will be limited to a maximum attendance of between 200 and 500 people initially.

For the test events, no food or drink will be available and entry times will be staggered to allow efficient and safe fan passage.

Chief Government Whip Jack Chambers released updated guidelines for the reopening of sports grounds on Monday which were drafted by a task force of sporting events experts and health and safety advisers.

They include mitigation measures to allow the safe return of spectators to sporting events.

These include advance communication with attendees, venues operating at reduced capacity, physical distancing, mask-wearing and hand hygiene.

A “robust” contact tracing system will also be in place.

These events will be used to assess and review progress towards increasing spectator capacity at events in July and August.

“I am acutely aware of fans’ impatience to see their home county, local club or sporting heroes in action again,” Mr Chambers said.

“These expert-led guidelines are important because they set out a clear path to allow large numbers of spectators to attend games again.

“They cover a wide range of areas, from ticketing and arriving at the pitch, to public transport and communications with supporters, to stadium signage, contact tracing and a host of other factors. important.

“The guidelines may be continually reviewed after each pilot event and will eventually pave the way for more sporting events as we move into the summer and fall.”

The task force will monitor events and adapt approaches, if necessary, as progress is made towards higher attendance later this summer.

There will be contact tracing linked to each ticket which will be held for 28 days, to allow sporting groups to assist the HSE if there is a case of Covid-19 linked to the event.

Later in the summer, as more people are vaccinated, it may be possible to increase attendance even further.

The event organizers will have primary responsibility and liaise with local authorities, public transport providers, the Garda and others.

Organizations have worked with their ticketing partners to ensure robust track and trace will be in place and this system has already been trialled in the UK.

It is through active sponsorship that Betway is still one of the most recognizable betting brands.

The office is owned by Betway Limited and operates under license MGA / B2C / 130/2006 issued by the Malta Gambling Authority (MGA).

Mobile version of the site and its differences

Now almost all bookmakers in India have a suitable mobile version.

Betway’s mobile web completely takes over the functionality and navigation of the full version of the site, with the exception of certain functions. However, the mobile platform leaves a double impression. The point is, the mobile site looks a bit outdated, and it will take some getting used to the interface.

The home page has a traditional element layout:

  • On the left – the pre-match line,
  • In the center – the best bets and live events.

On the changing banners in the center of the page, the bookmaker announces the most significant events, and offers new users to receive a welcome bonus.

From the top menu, you can access the casino, e-sports, slot machines sections, as well as the Betway blog.

All pre-game line sports are grouped by popularity level. The mobile functionality of the live section is also at a decent level.

Advantages of the mobile application

The Betway Sports app is slightly different from the mobile site.

The external design of the Betway app pleases the eye and does not distract from the main task. The interface is fully adapted to different devices, simple and practical. The navigation is thought out down to the smallest detail, access to the necessary sections is obtained in two clicks maximum.

The mobile program offers bettors the following products to choose from:

  • Betting on sporting events (and not only),
  • E-sport,
  • Virtual sports,
  • Online Casino,
  • Poker,
  • Vegas.

Each section has its own color scheme and logo, which contributes to the convenience of working

The official app is translated into 11 global languages including Hindi which is very convenient for Indian gamers.

In addition, the main advantages of the Betway sports app include its working functions such as:

  • Deposit-replenishment of the account;
  • Payment-withdrawal of funds;
  • List of open (not counted) and closed (ended) bets;
  • Game history – list of sessions on the website and in the app;
  • Transaction history – all deposits and payments;
  • Implementation of newsletters activating news and notifications;
  • Responsible gaming advice and tools for self-control;
  • Change your password;
  • To help.

Betway Sportsbook Mobile

The sports line of the Betway India app includes more than 20 sports.

The popular sports line opens access to classic tournaments:

  • Football – matches of national teams, cups, top leagues and championships from around 40+ countries.
  • International Cricket Championships, T20.
  • Basketball-VTB League, Euro League, NBA, NCAAB, international competitions and more than 10 most popular championships.
  • Volleyball – about five European leagues, including matches of Russian and Italian national teams.
  • Tennis – ATP, WTA, a large selection of ITFs.

The bookmaker’s list of major high performance sports includes a complete set of bets: results, handicaps, totals, intervals, combination bets and statistics.

In the app also provides an excellent selection of cricket and quite well represented in football and tennis.

Hockey and basketball in the Betway India app are not included in the list of priority sports – the number of bets on them is lower than in other bookmakers in the country.

Live

The disciplines where matches are currently being played are highlighted in the app with the “Live” button.

By choosing sporting events and betting on them, the live almost entirely repeats the pre-game line.

As for the functionality, the live leaves a lot to be desired: there is no option to add matches to favorites, and in the middle of a match day, it becomes embarrassing to follow several matches.

Some useful features include live tracking, current stats, and bet buyout. Video broadcasts are only available for the most popular events and with a positive account balance.

E-sport

Betway is positioned as an e-sports company and offers one of the best ranges of video games: Dota 2, CS: GO, LoL, Starcraft 2, StarCraft: Brood War, Rocket League, Overwatch, Rainbow Six, Valorant, King of Glory, Warcraft III.

You can also find other major tournaments.

The list also includes card bets, totals and results.

The margin in the coefficients is around 8%.

How to place bets via the Betway Sports app

Standard and long-term bets on competition results are available in the app: tournament winner, prize places, top scorer.

There is also a “Bet Builder” which allows you to create unique bets from selected events.

To place a bet you must:

  1. Open the sports line to see all the matches.
  2. By clicking on the event, you will get the “markets” tab and can choose which auction to add to your coupon.
  3. Once you are sure of your choice, click on the “place a bet” option.

Registration via the Betway mobile app

The registration of a new account via the application is generally carried out in three steps:

  1. You must provide the data to connect to your account,
  2. Write your full name and date of birth,
  3. Enter the address and phone number.

You can also set a limit on the maximum amount of bets per day, week or month.

After that, each customer must go to their personal account and pass the mandatory identity verification.

To confirm your identity, you must send a photo of one of the three documents:

  • Passport;
  • International passport;
  • Driving license.

The account is verified during the day, usually an hour is sufficient. The user is informed of the results of the verification by telephone.

  • Welcome bonus pack for new customers

Traditionally, the bookmaker offers its new customers a 100% bonus on their first deposit.

To get it, you need to top up your balance and place a bet in the amount of at least INR 50. Only residents with a coefficient of 1.75, as well as long-term bets and bets with a system with a kef of 1.40 are counted. The prize amount is equal to the deposit, but not more than INR 30,000.

In addition, as part of the “Betway Boosts” promotion, the bookmaker offers increased odds on sporting events in specific leagues.

Deposit and withdrawal via the Betway India app

In the Betway bookmaker app, you can top up your account with all available world currencies. Residents of India can traditionally do this using the INR.

For financial transactions, the following payment methods are presented here:

  • Payment;
  • electronic wallets;
  • Recharge by mobile phone.

The minimum deposit amount is 50 INR. At the same time, the maximum deposit amount is not limited.

The minimum withdrawal amount is 1.000 INR

There is no limit to the maximum amount to cash out the winnings.

The bookmaker has no commission on transactions.

China suspends all high-risk sporting events after deadly mountain ultra-marathon

By Sports events

The staggering death toll from the 100-kilometre (62-mile) ultra-marathon in Gansu province has sparked public outcry over lax industry standards and weak government regulation.

On Wednesday, China’s General Administration of Sports said it was shutting down all high-risk sporting events that lack a clear oversight body, established rules and safety standards, according to a declaration on its website.

Suspended sports include mountain and desert running, wingsuit flying and ultra-long distance racing, according to the statement.

The administration did not specify how long the suspension would last, but said it was reviewing the country’s sporting events in detail to improve regulatory systems, strengthen standards and rules and strengthen safety.

He also ordered local authorities “not to hold any sports competitions unless necessary” and to cancel any events that pose security risks in the run-up to the Chinese Communist Party’s centenary, which falls on July 1.

Authorities did not say how many races will be affected by the suspension. According to the China Athletics Association, 481 trail races and 25 ultra-marathons were held in 2019, more than a quarter of all long-distance running events in the country.

Marathons and trail races have exploded in popularity as China’s rising middle class has caught the running bug in recent years. But industry insiders say the races are often poorly organised, lacking in safety measures and contingency planning – and sometimes plagued with injuries and fatalities.

Trail races often take place in remote areas of the country that are lagging in development and resources. The deadly May 22 mountain run took place in the remote countryside of Gansu, one of the country’s poorest regions.

Most of the victims, including some of the nation’s top distance runners, were ill-equipped for the cold and died of hypothermia – a dangerous drop in body temperature caused by prolonged exposure to freezing cold.

The tragedy shocked the Chinese running community and sparked public outrage, with many questioning whether organizers had properly planned the race or prepared participants for the extreme weather conditions.

Even before Thursday’s announcement, dozens of marathons and trail races had been canceled or postponed across the country in the past two weeks, according to state media.

Fans can return to football matches, rugby matches and sporting events in Wales as Parkrun can resume

By Sports events

Sports fans have been given the long-awaited green light to return in their thousands to live events in Wales.

From Monday, June 7 , large outdoor gatherings and events – such as football and rugby matches, concerts and sporting activities – can accommodate up to 4,000 non-seated and 10,000 seated people.

This means that parkrun events and other organized running groups can also resume activity.

The Welsh Government has said that all organizers planning events and activities must carry out a risk assessment and also put measures in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus, including social distancing.

This latest announcement from the Welsh Government comes as First Minister Mark Drakeford confirmed Wales will follow a gradual move to coronavirus alert level one, with outdoor events opening first.

This opens the door for fans to attend the Six Nations Under-20s, which take place exclusively in Cardiff between June 19 and July 13 at Cardiff Arms Park.

Three of Welsh rugby’s four regions are in action for the PRO14 Rainbow Cup final round on the weekend of June 12 – the first weekend after the rule change – but only two are at home, to be followed by a ‘ North v South final in Treviso, Italy a week later.

The Ospreys host Benetton on Saturday June 12 at Brewery Field in Bridgend and the Scarlets host Edinburgh on Sunday June 13 at Parc y Scarlets. Although these regions may welcome fans, it will be at their discretion and they may decide to postpone the return of fans until the new season given that they will have a little over a week’s notice to prepare. The Dragons take on Leinster in Dublin on Friday June 11.

As far as football is concerned, the Women of Wales host Scotland in a friendly match at Parc y Scarlets on Tuesday, June 15. News on whether fans will be able to attend will come directly from the Football Association of Wales.

Swansea City, Cardiff City and Newport County will all resume operations when the new season begins on the weekend of August 7.

The latest easing of coronavirus restrictions in Wales on sporting events will mean fans will be able to return to live matches in droves for the first time since March 2020.

Other rule changes coming from June 7 include up to 30 people will be able to meet outside in Wales, while respecting social distancing,

Ministers are expected to review the public health situation before June 21 to determine whether indoor events can resume. Government officials say a two-step approach allows more people to be vaccinated.

Other changes to indoor activities to consider later in June include increasing the number of indoor events and the reopening of rinks.

Drakeford said: “I want to thank everyone in Wales for all they have done to control the spread of coronavirus and keep rates low. The emergence of the delta variant (also known as Indian variant) shows that the pandemic is not over yet and all of us must continue to take measures to protect ourselves and our loved ones.

“The risk of infection is significantly lower outdoors than indoors. That’s why we’re phasing in the changes in this three-week cycle. This will allow more people to enjoy outdoor events. and enjoy the Welsh summer, while we continue to roll out the vaccination program to all adults.

“We will review the public health situation in a few weeks to see if we can continue to ease restrictions and restart indoor events.”

It comes after several pilot crowd events have been staged at Welsh sports matches in recent weeks, with a few test events yet to take place.

They include:

  • The Newport County League Two play-off semi-final against Forest Green Rovers at Rodney Parade on May 18, where around 900 fans were in attendance.
  • Four days later, Swansea City fans returned to the Liberty Stadium for the first time in 14 months to see their side beat Barnsley and progress to the Championship play-off final at Wembley. Around 3,000 Swans fans were in attendance on May 22 at the Liberty.
  • Glamorgan v Lancashire at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff from June 3-6 will host between 750 and 1,000 spectators.
  • Wales football fans are set to return to their first live match on Saturday June 5, when 6,500 spectators will watch Gareth Bale and Co. in action as they take on Albania in the final match before the start of the Euro 2020.
  • The Fishguard Triathlon is also held on June 11 and 12, with participants registered only at Fishguard and St David’s.

Mandatory masks and no alcohol for spectators at pilot sporting events

By Sports events

Spectators will not need to be vaccinated to attend pilot sporting events from next week, but mandatory mask-wearing and physical distancing will be enforced, Minister of State for Sport Jack Chambers has confirmed.

Mr Chambers said stadiums will initially operate at 5-10 per cent capacity, but this could increase from early July. Speaking on RTÉ’s Today with Claire Byrne programme, Mr Chambers said the government was putting in place a “clear path back” for spectators to return to sporting events.

Plans are in place for 15 pilot events from June 11, involving a range of sports including GAA, rugby, football, athletics and golf.

Mr Chambers said his department had tried to ensure a mix of men’s and women’s games, with offers across the country.

“We try to produce a really controlled environment. . . We are trying to build trust for a safe return for low-risk spectators,” he said.

Tickets for these events will be issued by sports organizations to a named recipient and the identity of the ticket holder will be checked upon entering the stadium, it said. There will be staggered entries and exits to events, with “strict rules” to control crowds at entry points and spectators assigned to specific “areas”. “Active travel” to and from the games will also be encouraged, Mr Chambers said. Food and drink will not be permitted initially, he confirmed.

Debriefing

“After each event and pilot, there will be a debriefing, and the lessons learned will be compiled and shared with all other sports organisations,” he added.

Antigen tests can be used at some of the pilot events, but that will be decided on a “case-by-case basis”, he said. If a confirmed case of the virus is identified among attendees, other spectators will be contacted through their tickets, he said. Mr Chambers said it was important to get fans back to games because “it’s outdoors, it’s safe, it’s remote and there’s mask-wearing”.

Meanwhile, 100 fans will be allowed to attend local matches in June, rising to 200 spectators in July. Outdoor matches are allowed to take place from June 7. The stadiums with a capacity of 5,000 people will be able to accommodate 200 spectators per match from June and 500 from July. “Clear protocols” will be issued by sporting bodies, Chambers added.

July is set to see trial-goers return to sporting events, relaxation of indoor dining rules

By Sports events

Spectators are due to return to sporting events on a trial basis in July, while groups of up to six people are allowed to dine indoors in the same month, under plans being considered by the government.

The easing of restrictions was described by the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste during meetings of the Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael parliamentary parties on Wednesday evening. Without specifying the size of the crowd, Micheál Martin told TDs and Fianna Fáil senators that plans to trial spectators at outdoor sporting events in July were based on the experience of the EU and the Kingdom. -United.

He also signaled that Ireland would be part of EU travel plans, with the intention of restoring connectivity as soon as it is safe to do so.

Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar has told his parliamentary party that indoor dining could return in July with six people at a table, contact details taken and allowances made for the size of venues. He said a decision would be made next month.

It comes as the government prepares to discuss extensions and adjustments to key business and wage supports. The Cabinet Sub-Committee on Economic Recovery, chaired by the Tánaiste, will meet on Thursday to discuss the future of multibillion-euro grants due to expire this summer.

The national economic recovery plan will also be on the agenda. Additional supports for heavily impacted business sectors will also be considered as part of the discussions, which are preliminary.

No “cliff edge”

Sources have stressed that there will be no “cliff edge” in the schemes, and the intention is that they will remain in place to allow businesses to recover, especially those that are closed or restricted, and allow employment to recover.

However, senior sources have also said the schemes cannot stay in place indefinitely, especially as businesses will fully reopen under a hoped-for permanent easing of Covid restrictions.

Discussions are expected to focus on plans for the second half of the year for supports such as the Commercial Rate Waiver, Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP), Employment Wage Subsidy Program (EWSS ) and the Covid Restrictions Support Program (CRSS).

However, any restructuring of diets would have to be weighed against uncertainty over the wider epidemiological situation, sources said.

Elsewhere, the government continues to consider a new plan to offer AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines to people under 50.

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said advice on the use of vaccines said they could be used in this way. Discussions on the plan are ongoing, and he said he expects proposals to be considered by the government this week.

Spectators will be tested at outdoor sporting events in Ireland

By Sports events

BIG NEWS for sports fans in Ireland.

An Taoiseach told the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party meeting that spectators will be tested at outdoor sporting events across Ireland in July.

It comes shortly after Ireland were stripped of their Euro 2020 fixtures and moved to London and Russia.

UEFA have confirmed that they have required the insurance of a minimum of 25% attendance at each game, which the Irish government has been unable to meet due to Covid restrictions.

However, An Taoiseach’s latest comments could give Irish sports fans some optimism as the summer months approach.

Martin previously said that “the outdoors is the theme of the summer,” which could bode well for sporting events and outdoor concerts.

Meanwhile, away from the world of sport, Leo Varadkar has told his parliamentary party that indoor dining could return as early as July with six people at a table.

Varadkar said: “I will always be hopeful, and I hope we will have indoor dining in pubs and restaurants in July.

“It’s just that July is far enough away, and we can’t really make a call until the end of June.

“But you know that the cases are stable, hospitalizations and intensive care are decreasing.

“And every day tens of thousands more people get vaccinated, so you know, if I was in the hospitality business, I would plan outdoors in June and indoors in July, subject to all the usual caveats.”

Now all we need is good weather.

Social distancing and COVID-19

As we enter the vaccination phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, medical experts are still advising that we still have some way to go before we achieve herd immunity and can safely resume pre-pandemic activities. . In the meantime, you can stay vigilant to protect yourself from the coronavirus by continuing to wear face masks in public spaces, practicing social distancing of at least six feet, limiting contact with surfaces, and using disinfectant frequently. for hands or soap and water to keep your hands clean.

While the Governor of Texas lifted mandatory mask orders and capacity limits, most businesses still require face masks to enter and enforce reduced capacity. Familiarize yourself in advance with the policies of your destination and please observe their public safety measures.

Covid passports set to be tested at sporting events as part of bold bid for capacity crowds at Euro 2020

By Sports events

Covid passports are set to be tested at sporting events as part of the government’s plans to boost attendance in time for Euro 2020 and sport’s big summer.

sports mail understands that officials are working on a “Covid certification” system, which will be used in the second phase of test events due to begin in late May or early June.

It will record whether a person has had a vaccine, an antibody test result to prove immunity, or a Covid test result to show they don’t have the virus.

Sporting bodies, including the Football Association and the England and Wales Cricket Board, said earlier this month it was ‘credible’ to reach capacity crowds by the end of June, if Covid passports were tested and introduced at sporting events.

Covid passports open the prospect of packed houses for sporting events after June 21

The inclusion of passports in the second phase of test events raises the exciting prospect of sold-out houses later this summer.

England take part in football at the Euros, face Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India in cricket, Silverstone will host a Formula 1 Grand Prix and without forgetting Wimbledon, the Open Golf and the final of the Betfred Rugby League Challenge Cup.

The Covid vaccination pilot program will begin after work on an updated NHS Covid app, which will show a person's coronavirus status.

The Covid vaccination pilot program will begin after work on an updated NHS Covid app, which will show a person’s coronavirus status.

And passports should guarantee full stadiums for the start of the next Premier League, EFL and rugby seasons, provided the virus remains firmly under control.

Major sporting bodies including football, rugby codes, motorsport, cricket and tennis wrote to Prime Minister Boris Johnson and opposition party leaders on April 8 urging them to urgently agree to test Covid passports in order to bring crowds back to capacity this summer.

Their letter was headlined: ‘Sport supports review of Covid certification (testing and vaccination) as a credible option to allow full venues from June 21’.

And he said: “Looking ahead to June 21, we support the government’s ambition to ensure the full return of fans, without restrictions where possible.”

“Necessarily, it will depend on the government agreeing that it is safe to reduce or drop social distancing requirements.”

He added: “We know that our stadiums can only be fully filled with an insurance process.

“This process must ensure that everyone can access the stadiums and must include provisions that would verify a negative Covid test or an antibody test or vaccination certification.”

LIMITS FROM MAY 17

As part of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown, increasing numbers of spectators are allowed at events, provided infection rates, hospitalizations and deaths from Covid remain low and vaccination rates high.

From May 17, the covered rooms will be able to accommodate up to a maximum of 1,000 spectators, or half their capacity if this figure is lower.

For outdoor events, there will be a maximum of 4,000 fans allowed, or half a venue’s capacity (whichever is lower).

However, in larger stadiums, with a capacity of over 16,000, such as Wembley and Premier League football grounds, a maximum of 10,000 supporters will be allowed, or a quarter of the capacity (whichever is lower). ).

From June 21, it is hoped that all social distancing requirements can be lifted.

Prime Minister Johnson is desperate to see stadiums return to full capacity and despite opposition to the scheme, Covid passports are increasingly seen by the government as the only way to achieve this in the near future.

During a Number 10 press briefing on Tuesday, Johnson said Covid passports could be used in “hard to open” areas such as theaters, sports stadiums and nightclubs,

“What we’re looking at – what I think any responsible government would look at – is how we use people’s Covid status to open these things that are very difficult, and which have proven to be very difficult to open in the last year” , did he declare.

On Monday, the Department of Health posted job advertisements on a possible Covid certification scheme, with applicants being asked to be ready to start by May 4.

The Prime Minister has set out a roadmap to bring spectators back to the events. Up to 10,000 fans, or 25% of stadium capacity, whichever is lower, will be allowed from May 17.

Johnson said he wanted full houses from June 21, subject to the outcome of test events and as long as the spread of Covid is under control, vaccinations are progressing well, there are a limited number of serious illnesses and new variants do not spread.

The first phase of the events research programme, which began last weekend with the FA Cup semi-final between Leicester City and Southampton at Wembley and the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield, is based on the social distancing and spectator testing for coronavirus.

This will continue until May 15, when Wembley will host the FA Cup final in front of 21,000 fans.

PREMIER LEAGUE

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has said football will have lost £2billion since the start of the pandemic in match revenue and broadcast revenue.

In an interview last month, Masters said football’s goal was to return to full stadiums by the start of next season.

The Premier League signed a letter from all major UK sports, which called on politicians to support a major review of Covid passports as a way to achieve this.

“There’s a lot of water to go under the bridge until that can happen, but that’s our goal,” Masters said in March. “A return to full and vibrant stadiums, a return to the normal Premier League.

“We need to move from stage one to stage four of the roadmap and look at the national situation and work with the government to create the conditions for this to happen. We believe this is an achievable goal.

“The vaccination program is the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s the thing that changes everything, from being controlled by the virus to controlling it, and getting back to normal.

“If the vaccination program works the way the government wants, it will lead to the return of ticketed stadiums, theatres, cinemas and events in general.”

However, Premier League chief executive Bill Bush has warned that without Covid passports there will be limited and socially distanced crowds, no away fans and no food at games.

The lack of Covid passports for this event came as a surprise and with opposition parties and civil liberties groups raising concerns, it was thought the Prime Minister may have shown the red card to the scheme.

However, it now appears that the technology to support the test was not in place.

It is a sign of the government’s sense of urgency that the next second round of test events should use ‘Covid certification’ in paper form, if the NHS app is still in development.

All eyes will be on England in June and July with seven matches scheduled for Euro 2020 and there is the prospect of more if Ireland and Germany cannot stage their games due to Covid.

The Football Association has told organisers, UEFA, that the stadium will be able to accommodate 22,500 fans – 25% of its capacity – with the possibility of increasing to 45,000 spectators – half full – for the semi-finals and the final, which take place in July. 11.

The country’s major sporting bodies are desperate to see fans return to generate much-needed revenue after more than a year with almost no spectators.

In their letter to politicians, they argue that the passport should include testing for the virus as well as confirmation of immunity and commitment to a time-limited approach.

The letter addressed some of the politicians’ concerns and was intended to draw attention to the potential benefits of a viable program, if it can be achieved.

Labor leader Sir Keir has cast doubt on the use of Covid passports, describing the government’s plans as a “complete mess”, which his party is unable to support “in their current form”.

Liberal Democrat Ed Davey called passports “Covid ID cards” and described them as “illiberal” and “impractical”.

SNP Ian Blackford said ‘based on the information available there is no proposal before us that SNP MPs could support’.

And some 40 Tory MPs have made it clear they are against national vaccine passports, warning that introducing checks into everyday life would create a ‘two-tier’ nation.

But despite the opposition, the Prime Minister, who has previously expressed his desire for a full house at the Euro 2020 final, is pushing with a pilot who could still deliver crowds at capacity this summer.

As California slowly reopens from COVID-19-related shutdowns, new guidelines have been released ahead of the state again allowing seated live events and performances indoors.

Guiding lines specifically discourage members of the public from booing due to fears it increases the likelihood of coronavirus transmission, KTLA sister station KSEE/KGPE in Fresno reported.

Attendees will also be discouraged from shouting, singing, chanting and using noisemakers that need air, such as vuvuzelas.

The 17-page guidance document was released Wednesday by the California Department of Public Health. It went into effect Thursday, when the state began allowing indoor concerts, sporting events and private gatherings. The plan to allow such events was announced about two weeks earlier.

In addition to noise-related guidelines, other state requirements are also in place, such as assigned seating to ensure a 6-foot separation between households, an advance ticket reservation requirement, and the California Viewer Release Only.

Capacity is limited during events based on the tier each county is at.

Parent company of Indian fantasy sports app Dream11 raises $ 225 million for valuation of over $ 2.5 billion – TechCrunch

By Sports app

Dream Sports, the parent company of fantasy sports app Dream11, has secured $ 225 million in a new round of funding as the Mumbai-based company builds what it calls a “stubble sports technology company end “in the cricket-loving nation, which is also the second largest internet market in the world.

Tiger Global Management, TPG Tech Adjacencies (TTAD), ChrysCapital and Footpath Ventures have funded $ 225 million in Dream Sports through primary and secondary investments, the 12-year-old Indian company said.

The new round values Dream Sports at more than $ 2.5 billion, two people familiar with the matter told TechCrunch. Dream11 has raised around $ 325 million to date.

Dream11 has capitalized on the popularity of cricket, a game that has garnered a lot of attention from several major companies, including Disney and Facebook. Dream11 explores the fantasy part of it, allowing players to choose their best players for an upcoming match. They can win cash prizes based on the performance of their selected team.

This year, Dream11 is also the title sponsor of the 2020 season of the Indian Premier League cricket tournament, one of the most popular sporting events in the world. The startup won the rights, previously held by Chinese smartphone supplier Vivo, by offering $ 30 million. Vivo had to abruptly withdraw from sponsorship amid geopolitical tensions between the two nuclear-weapon nations.

The new IPL season kicks off later this week after months of delay due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“The sports sector has great potential for growth in India. There is a significant opportunity to improve the fan experience and we are excited to partner with Dream Sports to leverage technology in a way that deepens the connection between Indian fans and the sports they love, ”said Akshay Tanna, managing director of TPG, in a statement.

In recent years, Dream Sports has expanded to other categories such as merchandise. Harsh Jain, CEO and co-founder of Dream Sports, said in a statement today that the startup has amassed more than 100 million users. (The Dream11 app isn’t on the Google Play Store, and the startup relies on people who use their mobile website or load their Android app on their phones.)

“As a local Indian company, we are proud to continue to add value to our 10 million Indian sports fans, investors, employees and the entire sports ecosystem in India. Over the past couple of years, we’ve moved beyond fantasy sports to offer sports content, merchandise, streaming, experiences, and there’s a lot more to come. Our vision is to “make sport better” for India and Indian fans through technology and sport innovation, ”he added.

Avendus Capital acted as financial advisor to Dream Sports in connection with the transaction.

Launch of the world’s first social sports app

By Sports app

UPPSALA, Sweden, January 23, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Swedish start-up Speaser wants to change the way people follow each other and interact around sporting events. So they created the first app that combines a feed of the latest match news results from all major sports around the world, friendly betting and social media, making it easy to discuss sports.

“Billions of people love sports and we want to help bring them together,” says Fanny DrapedVice President of Speaser.

The app will be launched worldwide on January 23 and is available in 24 different languages, on iOS and Android and is free to download and use.

Not a betting app

Sport is meant to be about fun, and a challenge should be too. While traditional betting can have adverse effects, Speaser keeps the fun part of betting – the challenge – and lets you decide if the winner should get more than the honor and glory of winning. Maybe a cup of coffee?

Speaser has the excitement of a betting app but has stripped out its downsides.

“A lot of people can’t or won’t make bets involving money,” says Fanny Draped and continues, “and there are countries where traditional betting is illegal, this will be a fun alternative for them.”

How it works

Before an upcoming match, users predict the outcome and challenge opponents and decide what, if anything, is at stake. Results are submitted in so-called hit rates, so users can compare the results to the app’s high score list or wall of fame. Success rates are based on the results of all your challenges and can be improved over time.

While following the game, users can use the app to chat with friends, get the latest news and also get an overview of live scores, charts and statistics. All in one app.

JetBet launches social sports app with men’s lifestyle brand Maxim

By Sports app

GamesBeat Summit 2022 returns with its biggest event for gaming leaders from April 26-28. Book your spot here!

[Updated 8:14 am 11/23/15: Fixed terms related to betting].

JetBet today announces the launch of its social sports technology in partnership with men’s lifestyle brand Maxim, which is also unveiling its Maxim Sports Live website.

Real-time technology allows sports fans to predict sporting events as they happen in a “second screen” experience. The first website (with Facebook and pending mobile apps) targets NFL football fans, which is a big market as 16.2 million viewers watch every NFL game.

Las Vegas-based JetBet, founded by video game pioneer Louis Castle, has created a way for sports fans to test their knowledge – but not bet real money in exchange for real money winnings – on every game in a sporting event in real time.

Maxim’s first product is a free website, where players can pay real money to participate in tournaments, but cannot cash out any winnings. Instead, they can earn points that give them bragging rights. Players get free virtual currency for making predictions, but if they run out or want to play in bigger tournaments, they can buy more with real money.

“We’re focused on the competitive fun of predicting sports game by game,” Castle said in an email.

JetBet allows you to bet on sports games in real time.

Maxim Sports Live will allow sports fans to make predictions, demonstrate their knowledge and share their passion for their teams in real time during live sports events via the app on mobile devices. You can predict just about anything that you think will happen next in a game. Maxim will present Maxim Sports Live as an intuitive experience for players of all levels, and it will include a chat function to discuss games and banter with rivals.

“Maxim has built the leading men’s lifestyle brand by understanding the pulse of his audience,” Castle, CEO and co-founder of JetBet, said in a statement. “We are very pleased to be their partner in bringing real-time social sports to tens of millions of fans around the world.”

Castle, who has three decades of experience in video games and is known as the co-founder of Westwood Studios (which was acquired by Electronic Arts) also has experience in real-money gambling. He was a board member of tabletop game maker Shuffle Master (SHFL Entertainment). After that, he served as its chief strategy officer before its $1.3 billion sale in 2014 to slots giant Bally Technologies.

He was inspired to create JetBet after seeing a demo of Metric Gaming’s live data analytics, which focuses on real-money gambling. He saw the opportunity to create a free game based on technology. So he got a license for sports analytics from Metric and approached Bellwether to get a license for the social casino platform. Then he hired staff to create a custom app that could make watching live sports more exciting with a free gaming experience that didn’t involve real-money gambling.

Castle said in an email that the company is not an “everyday fantasy sports” startup, where rivals allow players to build sports teams and then bet on their performance on the playing field. There is controversy over whether these apps are legal skill-based games or constitute real-money gambling, as claimed by the New York State Attorney General.

JetBet and Maxim are play-by-play actions, and they are not focused on replicating everyday fantasy sports betting. Instead, we focus on free play for the bragging rights experience. Tournaments offer nothing but bragging rights, and if players ever receive actual prizes, they would be for playing, not as a prize for a particular successful prediction, Castle said. He said he considers JetBet Predictions to be a skill-based game, not a chance-based betting experience.

JetBet’s technology is based on Metric Gaming, which combines human and computer analysis to set the odds for each prediction. Live event data feeds into Metric Gaming analytics. Bellwether’s socially scalable casino platform delivers game prediction options to mobile devices of all kinds using HTML5, the lingua franca of the web. The broadcast event delay loop allows JetBet to follow the action from second to second and is often even a few seconds ahead of the broadcast. Millions of people can play at the same time, according to JetBet

The company was founded in 2014 and has 11 employees. Competing sites include other daily fantasy sports sites where players hang out at sporting events.

JetBet investors include Castle, Metric Gaming, Bellwether and other private investors. To date, the company has raised $700,000, with another $300,000 committed.
