India’s men’s football team will play two international friendlies against Singapore and host Vietnam in September, the national federation announced on Thursday.
The Indian team will face Singapore on September 24 before taking on Vietnam on September 27.
Vietnam is hosting the FIFA window friendlies (September 19-27) as part of its preparation for the 2022 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup.
The Blue Tigers will travel to Vietnam on September 22 and return home on September 28.
The matches are scheduled to take place at Thong Nhat Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City, according to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) website. According to VFF, the three teams will play in a tournament from September 21-27 and the team with the most points after a round robin format will be declared the champion. India are currently ranked 104th in the FIFA World Rankings, while their two opponents are ranked 97th (Vietnam) and 159th (Singapore) respectively.
After qualifying for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup two months ago, India will be looking to prepare for next year’s showpiece continental tournament. “We are happy with the challenges ahead and look forward to maintaining the quality of performance we have recently put in,” India head coach Igor Stimac said.
The coach said efforts were being made to organize a pre-camp and he hoped to have a practice match against the Kerala Blasters before they left for Vietnam.
