The government has started accepting scholarship applications for the upcoming academic year.

The application deadline for the 2022 Civil Service Fellowship Program is April 29. Successful applicants will receive up to $20,000 per year for up to five years.

A spokeswoman said the program is designed to provide funding to Bermudians as they pursue post-secondary education in areas that will “meet future needs” of government departments.

She added: “This ensures a cadre of well-trained people to fill positions within the civil service.

“Scholarships are awarded by the Public Service Commission to selected candidates enrolled in programs of study at a university, college or other training institution in order to acquire professional or technical qualifications.

“The award is a contribution to the student’s expenses and should not cover all costs. Other expenses, whether living expenses or tuition fees, are the responsibility of the student.

Applicants must be citizens of Bermuda, have completed at least five years of education in Bermuda, and be 40 years of age or younger at the time of application.

They must also have been accepted into a program leading to a professional, specialized or technical qualification required in the civil service and be interested in pursuing a career there.

Application forms are available at form.gov.bm/Bursary and completed forms should be submitted online at www.gov.bm/online-services/public-service-bursary-award-scheme.
