GAB: More sporting events to return as country normalizes from COVID-19

CEBU CITY, Philippines – The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) is delighted and delighted to see more sporting events taking place this month as the country allows more professional sporting events below the alert level. 1.

As COVID-19 cases continue to decline across the country, GAB, the country’s professional sports governing body and regulator, is allowing more professional sports to be held, especially in the month of March.

“We are happy that professional sport is starting to normalize again in the country. Although, of course, our priority remains the safety of our athletes, teams and game officials from the virus,” said GAB Chairman Baham Mitra.

Many professional sporting events this month, such as the Copa Paulino Alcantara of the Philippine Football League (PFL), kicked off on March 14 at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) training center in Carmona, Cavity.

Additionally, the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) opened its 2022 season with a bubble tournament on March 16 at the Paco Arena.

In the basketball scene, three professional leagues of Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup, FilBasket and newcomer Pilipinas Super League have recently started in various venues across the country.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governor’s Cup entered the conference quarterfinals.

FilBasket, which recently applied to become a professional league with GAB, opened its second season on March 18 in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.

The Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup kicked off its second season in Zamboanga City on March 19 while the PSL on March 18 in Roxas Town, Zamboanga del Norte.

“We are just as excited as everyone because it has been a while since we had so many sporting events at the same time in different parts of the country,” Mitra added.

In addition, ARQ Sports’ Engkwentro Kwatro boxing event was successfully held at Alta Vista Gym in Cebu City, while Omega Pro Sports International’s ‘Kumbati 12’ fight card is scheduled for March 26 in Mandaue. City.

Meanwhile, the URCC will promote a mixed martial arts event on March 22 in Olongapo City; the event will include an exhibition match and five professional MMA bouts according to GAB.
