Upcoming KC Sporting Events: K-State vs. KU, Kansas City Chiefs

By Sports events

The Kansas State Wildcats and the Kansas Jayhawks meet in another sunflower showdown Saturday at Lawrence.

The Kansas State Wildcats and the Kansas Jayhawks meet in another sunflower showdown Saturday at Lawrence.

The Kansas City area has seen some higher-stakes sunflower showdowns in football, no doubt, but there’s reason to believe this year’s edition could be some of the best in recent memory.

Kansas has shown signs of life under first-year head coach Lance Leipold, and K-State is aiming for a bowl appearance that would extend their long streak of playoff invitations.

It’s also a big week for the Chiefs (when is not it’s the case ? it’s the NFL!), and local high school sports fans will have plenty of opportunities to cheer on outstanding area teams and the student-athletes they love.

Sporty KC? All they do this week is close out the regular season with no less than three games in the space of eight days. And then it’s also for the playoffs for them.

College football buzz

K-State and Chris Klieman picked up an important victory on Oct. 23 in Lubbock, Texas, passing the Red Raiders 25-24 to end an eight-game losing streak in conference.

Kansas led the Oklahoma standings at Lawrence the same afternoon before losing 35-23. The Jayhawks, led by freshman coach Lance Leipold, baffled the Sooners – they led OR, for real – before order was restored to the Big 12 universe.

Do we dream to think this year’s Sunflower Showdown is shaping up to be a competitive football game and maybe even the closest final score between these two neighbors since 2018, when KSU won 21-17? May be. After all, the Cats have dominated KU since a 52-21 Kansas win over Lawrence in 2008.

Not to mention Mizzou, here. The Tigers also play Saturday, and their task is gargantuan: in Georgia.

Sporting three-iron

It’s a busy week for Sporting KC. And it will get even busier, or more intense, anyway, at the start of the MLS playoffs.

Before we can start thinking about the playoffs, however, there are three more regular season games to play in the week ahead: Sporting KC are in Minnesota today (Sunday, October 31); in Austin on Wednesday; and at home, for the final of the regular season, against Real Salt Lake next Sunday (November 7).

And so the playoffs can begin.

Kansas and Mizzou’s first games respectively aren’t far behind: KU opens with a marquee game at Madison Square Garden against Michigan State on Tuesday, November 9, while the Tigers kick off the same day with a home game against Central Michigan.

High school sports party

There’s so much going on in high school sports for Kansas City area teams and individual competitors this week. Part of it takes place here in the metro, but much of it takes place elsewhere.

Here’s a look at what’s going on in addition to the myriad of preseason football games that will reduce the field of standings across Missouri and Kansas:

  • Kansas Football Championships: The semi-finals will take place on Friday and the finals on Saturday at the pitches in Olathe, Wichita and Topeka.
  • Missouri Volleyball Championships: The state tournaments are held Thursday through Saturday at the Show Me Center on the Southeast Missouri state campus in Cape Girardeau; the finals are Friday and Saturday.
  • The Missouri cross: The State Championships are held Friday and Saturday at the Gans Creek Course in Columbia.

Riders Republic review: A renaissance for extreme sports games

By Sports games

Riders Republic: Specifications

Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Amazon Luna, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S
Price: $ 60
Release date: 28 October 2021
Kind: Sports action / simulation

Riders Republic is a new entry in the extreme sports genre of video games. Once a dominant force in the gaming landscape, the genre has been largely overlooked over the past decade as a glut of online shooters and open-world action games flooded the market.

In that regard, Riders Republic looks like a welcome throwback. This is the type of game one would have expected to see on PS2. However, it contains more than enough modern gaming sensibilities to play like a current generation title.

The game is a spiritual sequel to Ubisoft’s 2016 snowboarding title Steep, and it takes its predecessor’s formula and works with it. Riders Republic adds more than extra things to do, but a welcome level of customization that’s almost unmatched in the genre.

There are a few flaws, most of which only become apparent as you play, but even when the grind borders on the tedious Riders Republic continues to woo you as it nails the core fundamentals. Read on for our full Riders Republic review.

Riders Republic Review: Gameplay

Variety is the name of the game in Riders Republic. While most games in the genre focus on a single extreme sport, Riders Republic gives you the option of mountain biking, snowboarding, skis, wingsuits, and even rocket-powered jetpacks.

Bikes are definitely the most fun option available to you. There is something to hawk furiously down a dusty track picking up enough speed to overtake a car that never gets old. The default controls are also remarkably easy to pick up, within minutes you’ll be drifting through tight turns and performing double backflips.

The use of a snowboard or a pair of skis is naturally similar. These transport methods are mainly useful when you want to perform over the top tricks and grinds. Carving in powder snow is fun, but you don’t feel as vulnerable traveling at breakneck speeds as you do on a bicycle frame, which makes snow sports a lot less exciting.

Wingsuits ignore the laws of physics for the sake of fun. By holding down a button, you can essentially stop and restart your swing. This makes wingsuits extremely arcaded and often behaves in annoying and unpredictable ways. Rocket-powered wingsuits don’t have the same problem but are rather boring to control. Boredom is not something you should experience when using a jetpack.

At any time, you can instantly switch to first person mode with the push of a button. While you’ll likely choose to play the majority of Riders Republic in third person, first person is a fun new addition. Hopping a bunny off a cliff on a BMX and rolling down the almost steep slope in first person is extremely exhilarating and might tie your stomach.

Riders Republic deserves credit for customizing their controls. Initially, you choose between two control schemes: racer and trickster. There’s also a preset that mimics Steep’s layout. You can further fine-tune settings such as how much help the game gives you when landing tricks or whether you want to hook onto the grind rails automatically.

These settings can be quickly adjusted in the menus if you find things too difficult or too easy. I started with the game by automatically adjusting my landings to avoid frequent bailouts, but after a few hours I was confident enough to control things manually. This feeling of progress was extremely gratifying.

Riders Republic Review: Career Mode

Riders Republic immerses you in a huge open world that brings together seven real American national parks, including Bryce Canyon, Yosemite Valley, and Zion. In just a few hours of play, your world map will be dotted with dozens of points of interest, events, and collectibles.

Before you can start exploring, you’re forced to complete the game’s frustrating and restrictive tutorial. Luckily, it only takes about an hour to complete, but it feels endless. It walks you through the basics, but you’re on an extremely tight leash. Please do not judge Riders Republic by their opening time.

The game’s career mode features five different courses: bike racing, bike tours, snow racing, snow tours and aerial events. They’re all pretty self-explanatory, and as you progress through each you’ll unlock “Big Events” that will really challenge you to prove your skill in each discipline.

Riders Republic ski game

The problem is, career events are extremely repetitive. Take the snow trick career, for example, each event is just another course for you to grabs, grinds and flips in the hope of getting a high score. Fortunately, you can switch between career modes at will, which increases some of the repetition. I have made a policy of never doing more than two events in the same career path consecutively to avoid burnout.

Fortunately, it’s not all races and trick events. There are side events outside of career paths that have more wacky goals. One asks you to deliver pizza within a time limit, while another straps you to a rocket-powered bicycle. These challenges are a real highlight, and I wish there were more to mix things up between the guts of the same competitions.

Progressing in Riders Republic is mostly about collecting stars, which you’ll earn for just about everything. While the stars may be awarded a little too often, you never have to complete activities that you don’t enjoy. Instead, you can choose what to focus on.

A chaotic scene from Riders Republic

If you’re bored of career mode, you’re free to scour the world aimlessly for hidden collectibles or special relics, which unlock novelty vehicles like a surfboard. There’s even a Zen mode that drops you on the map without any lens and lets you travel the world admiring the (often beautiful) sights.

Riders Republic Review: Online Modes

Riders Republic is a very socially connected game. There are a multitude of ways to play with and against other players. The best of these are the much vaunted mass races.

These chaotic online events pit up to 64 players against each other in a single race. The results are utter carnage as you bump into each other and scramble for a podium spot. Ultra-competitive gamers may find them frustrating, but if you’re up for playing for fun, you’ll find them fun.

A chaotic scene from Riders Republic

It’s quite baffling that you can’t play mass races whenever you want. You have to wait for the game to initiate a call telling you that the game is about to start. This happens frequently enough that you don’t have to wait long, but why you can’t just do on-demand matchmaking is a real mystery.

Another nice multiplayer mode is Trick Battle. This team mode requires you to perform tricks on specific objects in order to gain control and score points. It’s a lot more fun than a standard trick competition, but there isn’t a lot of variety in the mode.

As you might expect, you can also participate in standard races and online tricks events, and you can travel the world with friends if you start to feel a bit lonely in the republic.

Riders Republic: visuals and sound

I played Riders Republic on PS5 and found its huge open world a real sight to see. It is an extremely geographically diverse place, offering everything from snow-capped peaks to desert canyons. You’ll often be driving too fast to take in the views, but when you stop for a moment, the beautiful scenery is sure to grab your attention.

A chaotic scene from Riders Republic

There are some clipping and animation issues that prevent the game from looking so good on the move. It’s not uncommon to get stuck on a large boulder or cluster of trees, but your unlimited use rewind ability can get you out of a traffic jam in the blink of an eye – although I had to start some over again. races because my competition had already exceeded the limits. the moment I took off.

Unfortunately, Riders Republic is not that easy on the ears. Every now and then, you’ll be forced to suffer through the NPC’s gnash-inducing dialogue that would have been stale even in the early 2000s. There’s also a custom soundtrack filled with licensed songs, but Riders Republic is the best for listening to your own music. I spend a lot of my time playing muted and a favorite podcast, which I found far better.

Riders Republic Review: Verdict

Riders Republic’s combination of a massive open world you can explore at will and a wide variety of gameplay is compelling. Career mode can get a bit repetitive as you level up, but the game never punishes you for shifting gears and doing something else when boredom sets in.

Developer Ubisoft Annecy has confirmed that more content is on the way, and with such a promising foundation already in place, Riders Republic could fit into something really special. They don’t really make games like Riders Republic anymore, but I’m glad Ubisoft did.

Federal government says man illegally broadcasting professional sports games tried to extort $ 150,000 from MLB

By Sports games

NEW YORK – A Minnesota man was charged Thursday with attempting to extort $ 150,000 from MLB while illegally streaming copyrighted content from major professional sports leagues online.

Joshua Streit, 30, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, has been indicted in a criminal complaint filed in Manhattan federal court for extortion, accessing a secure computer to commit personal fraud, wire fraud and transmission illegal digital.

It was not immediately clear who will represent him in an initial appearance in federal court in Minnesota.

Federal authorities say Streit hacked into MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL computer systems to stream copyright-protected live games before trying to extort $ 150,000 to MLB by threatening to expose alleged vulnerabilities in MLB’s internet infrastructure.

Michael J. Driscoll, head of the FBI’s New York bureau, said in a statement that Streit – also known as Josh Brody – “hacked the systems of several of our nation’s biggest professional sports leagues and broadcast unlawfully copyrighted live games ”.

“Instead of stopping when he was in the lead, he allegedly decided to continue the game by extorting one of the leagues, threatening to expose the very vulnerability he used to hack them,” Driscoll said.

He added: “Puns are written in this investigation, and now, instead of earning a salary, Mr. Brody faces a federal prison sentence as a sanction.”

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said the four sports leagues facilitated the investigation into Streit’s activities, which spanned from 2017 to August, with one of the leagues claiming to have lost around $ 3 million from streaming.

“Streit has ended his illegal streaming and extortion program,” Williams said.

Authorities said Streit used the login details of legitimate sports league website users to access live streams which he then broadcast on a website he operated.

SU changes COVID-19 protocols for sporting events

By Sports events

With two more home football games and the men’s and women’s basketball seasons to come, Syracuse athletics are changing some of the COVID-19 protocols to attend the games.

To enter the Dome, children under 12 will not need to provide proof of a negative COVID test to enter, although all people 12 and over will need to provide proof of vaccination or a test. negative at least 72 hours before arrival.

All participants from 5 years old must wear masks.

County manager Ryan McMahon said the changes made sense.

“These kids need to be masked and most of them will be vaccinated soon as well, so we’re comfortable with that,” he said. “We’ve had some big events there and our contact search didn’t show any super-spreader events.”

The League also encouraged fans attending home football matches to visit one of the five pre-match screening sites. Those who get a bracelet will get in faster.

Screening stations are located at Quad, Stadium / West Lot, Manley North Lot, Manley South Lot and Skytop Lot.

For basketball matches, the verification of vaccines and test results will take place at the entrance gates of the stadium. No pre-screen tent is available.

McMahon says like all things during the pandemic, procedures can always change.

“This is what professional sports are doing now, and there are certainly medical providers out there looking at that as well,” McMahon said. “Like all COVID, we always reserve the right to pivot and change our mind.”

Separating Bally Sports app to watch Cavs, Guardians seems unlikely

By Sports app No Comments

If you’ve been eagerly awaiting a standalone streaming app to watch the Cavs and Guardians, your patience will likely be tested in the months to come.

Those who cut the cord or turned to another TV provider that doesn’t provide access to Bally Sports, Sinclair Broadcasting’s regional sports networks here and across the country, have been looking for ways to watch these teams.

Analysis:The economy is probably not a friend for prospecting for a Bally Sports app

But Major League Baseball and NBA commissioners have canceled those chances with recent comments.

There are two areas where there is potential for significant revenue growth in professional sports: gambling and direct-to-consumer viewing rights.

The game will eventually take care of themselves state by state, as these legislatures grapple with their respective issues. The area where sports leagues have the most control comes with the latter.

Take control of your rights

“We have been very clear with them from the start that we see these two sets of rights [gambling and streaming] as extremely valuable to baseball, and we’re not just going to throw them away to help Sinclair, ”MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said at a recent conference covered by the Sports Business Journal.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver recognizes the demographic forces at play.

“We’re very focused on redesigning the model in terms of the current distribution of our games, so that even though the games are on cable or satellite in the local market, fans who don’t choose to subscribe to a larger package are not disenfranchised from the league, ”he told the Denver Post. “The numbers are especially dramatic for our young fans who are usually not cable or satellite subscribers, or as far as they are, use it extensively to watch other platforms, using it as a provider. broadband. “

There is a generational schism in media consumption. The smartphone has become an indispensable device – despite a relatively small screen size – for watching everything from Netflix to, yes, live sports, and many young Americans are perfectly willing to pay for a broadband connection, but want to more freedom in programming.

Live sports remain popular with 73% of 18-34 year olds claiming to be avid or occasional fans, according to an online survey by Statista. The number is slightly higher for 35-44 year olds at 77 percent.

Bally Sports faces challenges

That brings us to Bally Sports, part of Sinclair’s Diamond Sports Group, which pitched the idea of their standalone app earlier this year and the potential to raise $ 250 million to launch it. Burdened with debt from buying out the various regional sports networks that make up the company, Bally’s seemed optimistic about the prospect of being able to take away all the rights from the various teams they needed to make it work.

However, they probably know the challenges are even greater now: Cord cutting and streaming is the future and that future is fast approaching, according to a study by The Diffusion Group, a media research company.

Currently, 25 percent (38 million) of US homes have a high-speed Internet connection without subscribing to an over-the-air television service. Their research shows that will grow to 54 million households by 2025. These are households that will likely choose from a myriad of streaming services that match their habits and tastes, including sports.

This makes streaming rights extremely valuable in the coming paradigm. And don’t think MLB doesn’t know it. According to a New York Post report, they are already considering bringing a service to market – in partnership with the NBA and NHL – to solve this dilemma for consumers.

Some may balk or laugh at the prospect.

No.

Despite all of its archaic attitudes in some ways, MLB has always understood the digital realm. They already have.

MLB has come this road

MLB Advanced Media was formed with league resources in 2000. Two years later they aired their first game – the Texas Rangers vs. the New York Yankees, which was accessible to anyone outside of these viewing areas. teams. It was eventually separated from MLB in 2015 under the name BAMTech.

Since its inception, it has grown to eventually provide streaming solutions for CBS March Madness, WWE, HBO Now, Sony Playstation Vue, the PGA, and the NHL. The Walt Disney Company acquired a controlling stake in the company in 2017.

Back in the days when MLBAM first formed, no one had a clue how quickly cord cutting and streaming would evolve at this point. It remains an immature market with significant room for growth. Manfred and Silver recognize him.

At this point, why would they give the goose that lays the golden eggs? This fact could leave local baseball and basketball fans without access to Bally’s local sports networks by waiting much longer.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred recognizes the values of streaming rights for his league games.

Sodexo launches Sodexo Live!

By Sports events

Sodexo Group recently launched Sodexo live!a new global brand dedicated to the hotel space. Designed to unify and leverage the company’s extensive expertise in the sports, events and hospitality industry, the new identity reaffirms the company’s commitment to being a market leader in a space on the verge of rebounding, according to Sodexo Live! officials.

“We are delighted to unveil Sodexo Live! for meeting planners, trade show organizers and the space as a whole,” said Steve Pangburn, CEO of Sodexo Live! North America. “Participants in the meetings and events industry can expect an ongoing commitment to excellence and world-class food and beverage from us. We have global resources but a local focus and a huge range of services outside of F&B to offer, [including] venue marketing and sales, design consulting, energy management, concierge services, etc.

The brand reinvention comes as people show a strong desire for face-to-face contact, as confirmed by a September 2021 studyproduced by Harris Interactive for Sodexo Live! in the United States, United Kingdom, France and Spain, which reported that 80% of respondents felt comfortable attending sporting, cultural or professional events again.

In order to fully accelerate in this high-potential market with the return of face-to-face events, the new Sodexo Live! brand will be based on three fundamental pillars, in particular:

1. A regional strategy to increase its global presence by consolidating its first three markets, North America, France and the United Kingdom, and by accelerating its growth in Spain and Asia-Pacific.

2. A sharp focus on priority business segments by continuing to deploy its expertise in major venues and events: stadiums and arenas, convention and congress centers, major international events, cultural destinations and more than 170 airport lounges.

3. A portfolio of personalized servicesincluding F&B expertise, helping clients discover new revenue streams, maximize venue budgets and operations, retain event planners, optimize sales and marketing efforts, and connect with attendees through smarter merchandising, ticketing and hospitality designs.

Formerly known as Centerplate in the more than 30 North American conference and convention centers it serves, Sodexo Live! will now offer expanded services for events beyond food and beverage, including ticketing, merchandising, contactless technology and marketing, sales and venue cleaning. Meanwhile, the Centerplate name will be retained as a dining option only for North American sites, according to Sodexo Live! officials.

“[The new Sodexo Live! brand] is intended to mark a clear investment in providing services beyond food and beverage and helps us expand our capabilities for customers,” Pangburn said. “With over 400 global locations, we offer a global and local approach that helps client partners think globally and attracts a more international traveler base.”

He continued, “Whether it’s in a city like Nashville, Denver, New Orleans, or Chicago, we’ll take advantage of areas where we already have multiple locations and show how they can connect more deeply with the local food scene and with the global community at large. large.. For meeting and event planners, we’re the same people behind the scenes and with a new brand identity. And we are now better equipped to leverage our global network of expertise to better drive revenue growth. »

In addition, Sodexo Live’s portfolio includes activities dedicated to specific areas of expertise, such as meetings, conferences and conventions. For example, Sodexo acquired Centerplate in 2018 to expand its presence in North America, and since then the two entities have partnered to generate strong market growth.

Like its parent company, Sodexo Live! is committed to social and environmental progress, supports its clients in promoting the environment and serving their communities by asserting itself as a local economic engine, by leading a committed approach to diversity and inclusion and by developing more responsible solutions for sites and events that respect the environment.

Sodexo offers its clients an integrated offer resulting from more than 50 years of experience, from catering, reception, maintenance and cleaning to the management of facilities and equipment; from services and programs promoting employee engagement to solutions that simplify and optimize their mobility and the management of their expenses, as well as home assistance, crèches and concierge services.

Founded in Marseille in 1966 by Pierre Bellon, Sodexo, based in Paris, is present in 64 countries and serves 100 million consumers daily through its on-site services, its benefits and rewards services and its personal and home services. Its North American headquarters is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

“Sodexo live! is the affirmation of a new ambition, because we bring together our expertise related to sport, events and hospitality under a unified global brand,” explains Nathalie Bellon-Szabo, CEO Worldwide of Sodexo Live! “With this launch, we reaffirm to our clients that we are the preferred partner to face the future and that we firmly believe in our 40,000 employees worldwide to offer them world-class, creative and value-creating services.”

Spectators are now allowed to attend school sporting events

By Sports events
  • Spectators are now allowed to attend school and interschool matches, training and sporting events.
  • Face masks should always be worn.
  • Sharing of drinks is not permitted.

New government regulations have been issued to allow spectators to attend school sporting events.

From Friday, spectators were allowed to attend all school and inter-school sports matches, training sessions and events.

School sporting events – without spectators – have been allowed since August after being suspended in May in the midst of the third wave of Covid-19.

Additionally, all intra-school and inter-school artistic and cultural activities can now allow audiences, including choir rehearsals and contests, spelling contests, speech contests and debates.

However, strict rules apply.

Face masks should be worn, including in locker rooms and training areas, except by those doing vigorous exercise.

READ | It’s the return to daily attendance for all primary school students in South Africa

Beverage sharing is not permitted, a Covid-19 compliance officer must be appointed for each site, and a log of all officials, students and spectators must be kept by a host school for at least 21 days.

Up to 2,000 people are permitted at outdoor venues and 750 or less at indoor venues.

But if the room is too small to hold the prescribed number of people while ensuring distances of at least one and a half meters between people, then no more than 50% of the capacity of the room can be used.

The regulation stipulates that the principal of a school or an organizer of a place who does not comply with the regulation commits an offense and is liable to a fine or imprisonment.

New policies to prevent hate speech at sports matches

By Sports games

MONTPELIER, Vermont (AP) – The Vermont Principals’ Association has announced new policies to prevent hate speech during sports games after several reported incidents of racist and sexist comments in recent high school games.

During a boys’ soccer match in Winooski-Enosburg last month, a few Enosburg players were accused of making racist statements. The Franklin Northeast Supervisory Union said it had conducted an investigation and found no evidence for such statements, but could not interview the Winooski athletes as they refused to meet with investigators. Days after that game, Burlington volleyball players faced racist and transphobic comments.

“We don’t have that anymore. And if someone does, we’ll take action against them, ”said Jay Nichols, executive director of the Vermont Principals Association.

Schools must read a statement before each event instructing athletes and spectators to behave respectfully or face the consequences, according to new rules released on Tuesday. The VPA has launched an online system where concerns can be reported and officials, such as referees, are to participate in implicit bias training this winter.

“We want kids to challenge people who say sexist or racist things to them or attack them for their religion or gender identity or whatever,” Nichols said.

The county’s public health department warned that increases in COVID infections were seen last October due to more frequent gatherings of people watching sporting events. As we cheer on our teams, let’s continue to work together to avoid a winter wave that forces us to take back steps on our recovery journey. The best way to do this is to be vaccinated if we plan to enter places where there is an increased risk of transmitting the virus. “

The county is requiring attendees at large outdoor events like the Dodger games to show proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID test. Participants are also required to wear face masks, except when actively eating and drinking.

At indoor events such as the Laker and Clipper games, proof of vaccination is required.

Fans who plan to watch games at county indoor sports bars should also have proof of at least one dose of the vaccine. Proof of full vaccination will be required from November 4. The same rule applies to employees of indoor bars, breweries, wineries, distilleries and nightclubs.

According to the county’s most recent figures, 79% of eligible county residents aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 70% are fully immunized. Of the 10.3 million people, including those who cannot be vaccinated, 68% have received at least one dose and 60% are fully vaccinated.

The county reported 31 more deaths from COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total death toll during the pandemic to 26,473.

For adults over 50, the rate is five times higher for unvaccinated people, according to the agency.

Unvaccinated residents aged 12 and older are 12 to 22 times more likely to be hospitalized with COVID-19 than their vaccinated counterparts, and the death rate is 32 times higher among residents aged 18 to 49 , according to DPH.

Release date: November 14, 2017 (United States) / November 14, 2017 (UK / EU)

You could Say it’s the best football game on Switch and you won’t hear any arguments from us, although it may make some football fans worse. Having said that, people tend to get exasperated over the smallest things, like using the word “football” instead of “football” for example. Sometimes you can’t win.

This is unless you play Rocket league or everybody a winner, even when you lose as much as we tend to. Combining an accessible arcade-style car experience with a floating, giant take on the beautiful game, its large amount of pop-culture DLC might appeal to people (a certain demographic will find cars like the Back to the future DeLorean, ghost hunters‘Ecto-1 and knight rideris irresistible KITT), but it’s the raucous gameplay and adrenaline rush as your team passes the ball over the line that keeps us coming back.

So here we are. Rocket League – the best football game on Switch. *short*

NBA 2K22 (Switch)NBA 2K22 (Switch)

Editor: 2K / Developer: Visual concepts

Release date: September 10, 2021 (United States) / September 10, 2021 (UK / EU)

NBA 2K22 is another great entry into the franchise that continues the developer’s habit of providing sufficiently solid ports of their basketball sims on Nintendo Switch. Yes, most modes don’t try anything very new – beyond MyCareer’s revamped neighborhood setting – and loading screens will make your hair pull your hair out every now and then, but polished core gameplay and enough content for you to play until the end times make it an easy recommendation for b-ball fans.

Alternatively, the previous entry in the series (NBA 2K21, of course) does a lot of what this game does, and probably a lot cheaper if you can still find it.

Windjammers (Switch eShop)Windjammers (Switch eShop)

Editor: Dotemu / Developer: Dotemu

Release date: October 23, 2018 (United States) / October 23, 2018 (UK / EU)

If you’re looking for nasty two-player action, the cult classic of Data East Windbreaker is just the game you are looking for. With the same fast-paced, addicting gameplay that got us hooked in 1994, you’re going to need a second player to really get the most out of it, and luckily Switch makes it easy to play with a friend. It’ll have a sequel later this year, but until then it’s the first competitive disc-based sports game on the console and worth (re) discovering.

Super Mega Baseball 3 (Switch eShop)Super Mega Baseball 3 (Switch eShop)

Editor: Metalhead software / Developer: Metalhead software

Release date: May 13, 2020 (United States) / May 13, 2020 (UK / EU)

Sony stated that MLB the show It won’t be a PS4-exclusive platform in the future, but until that happens on Switch, baseball fans should investigate Super Mega Baseball 3. What it lacks in hyperrealism and officially licensed teams it more than makes up for with a carefully tuned physics set that is deep enough to cater for. RBI Baseball players while offering the welcome addition of some enhanced modes. Franchise mode on its own seems like a fitting extension of the brand, with its irreverent sense of humor that lends a welcome undertone to an otherwise content-rich sports simulation. Super Mega Baseball 2: Ultimate Edition is still great, but the sequel just gets better and so is the best baseball game on Switch – definitely worth it if you like that sort of thing.

Neo Turf Masters (Neo Geo)Neo Turf Masters (Neo Geo)

Editor: SNK / Developer: Nazca

Release date: 1996 (United States) / July 25, 2008 (UK / EU)

A classic arcade style golf simulation from SNK, Neo Turf Masters (Where Big golf tournament in the US) has been a winner on Neo Geo, and it continues to be extremely enjoyable on Switch over the past two decades. Wearing Hamster perfectly mimics the addicting gameplay of the original which grabs you whether you’re a fan of spoiling your rides or not.

If you’re happy with a more abstract approach to hitting a small white ball into a far hole, Golf peaks is a cute little puzzle that is worth a look and is critically acclaimed What is golf? coming soon to Switch. Until Mario and his friends from Mushroom Kingdom arrive on Switch’s fairway for a twilight game, Neo Turf Masters is arguably the best pure golf game on Switch. Of course, if you want a bit more RPG with your golf game, you’ll probably want to investigate our next pick …

Golf History (Switch eShop)Golf History (Switch eShop)

Editor: Sidebar games / Developer: Sidebar games

Release date: September 28, 2017 (United States) / September 28, 2017 (UK / EU)

If you remember Mario golf of the Game Boy Color, you will have a good idea of the kind of RPG experience Golf history tees up. Fans of deep, realistic simulations might want to stay away, as Golf Story will allow you to use your ball skills in a wider range of settings than girding your Titlelist 2 down a boring old fairway. You’ll be called upon to feed hungry alligators, knock things off high surfaces, and relax with the occasional round of pitch ‘n’ putt. Not every game has to be decisive at Augusta or St Andrews, you know.

Golf Story is lightweight RPG nonsense of the highest caliber, with a healthy dose of golf. It’s a really nice indie Switch exclusive and we can’t recommend it enough if you’re a fan of RPG, golf, or gaming in general.

NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 (Switch)NBA 2K Playgrounds 2 (Switch)

Editor: Sports 2K / Developer: Interactive Saber

Release date: October 15, 2018 (United States) / October 16, 2018 (UK / EU)

If you think realism is overrated in sports video games, NBA 2K 2 Playgrounds could be exactly what you are looking for in a basketball game. Of course, it still features microtransactions and it will take you a while to take out each player (it’s still a 2K title, after all), but the basic hoop shooting experience is strong. It is not the NBA Jam-beater 2K positions it like, but if you get a buzz from big heads and a more arcade approach to the pitch, Playgrounds 2 is definitely worth it.

FIFA 19 (Switch)FIFA 19 (Switch)

Editor: Electronic arts / Developer: Electronic arts

Release date: September 28, 2018 (United States) / September 28, 2018 (UK / EU)

FIFA on Switch is weird. If you’ve never played a modern FIFA game and picked one of the Switch entries, you’d probably think it’s a good game. You wouldn’t be wrong – the basic soccer experience here is very solid. and enjoyable – but series veterans will find it hard to ignore the cut corners and caveats of the “Legacy” Switch versions. These games lack the key modes of their counterparts on PS4 and Xbox One, so if you’re a FIFA enthusiast with access to those, it’s hard to recommend these versions.

If you don’t compare alike, however, and are just looking for a good kick on Switch, FIFA 18, 19, 20 and 21 deliver a decent game, although the latter two have literally updated kits and player rosters for their respective years and nothing else. Frankly, we lost our patience with EA’s cynical attitude towards fans of the series owning Switch, so we were looking for a copy of 19.

OIA will allow fully vaccinated fans to attend high school sports matches – but not everyone is happy

By Sports games

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Starting next week, fans will once again be allowed in the stands during public high school athletic games.

The Oahu Interschool Association announced that spectators will be allowed both indoor and outdoor games starting October 20.

Those who wish to attend a sporting event will need to be fully vaccinated and will need to wear masks. Since children under 12 are not yet eligible for the vaccine, they will not be allowed to attend the events.

Many parents expressed disappointment that they were not allowed to attend the games. But even after the announcement, parents saw it as a mixed bag.

“It’s a blessing and we are grateful,” said Kiley Bagio, whose husband is on the football coaching staff at Kapolei High School and who has a son on the team.

“On the other hand, people like us who have children is a different story.

Bagio and Ihilani Cummings – who also has a husband on the coaching staff and a senior on the team – were delighted to finally be able to see a game in person.

But with the rules only calling for people who are vaccinated, their young children will have to stay home.

“My own daughters can’t even come and support daddy, so now my wife probably won’t be able to come unless a babysitter can watch them,” Kahuku High School football head coach Sterling Carvalho said. .

“We stand up for families,” Cummings said. “A lot of boys and their teammates have a lot of siblings, and siblings are their biggest fans.”

The OIA said fans are limited to groups of 25 outdoors and 10 indoors. Everyone must buy a ticket online, but there is no rule on the number of participants. There will also be a purchase limit of up to five tickets.

“Which rule applies? What games will we go to? We do not know. It’s just very confusing, ”Bagio said.

Following state guidelines, the OIA said food and drink will not be served at matches and only water will be available.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi said restrictions continued to lift on big events, but it still hinged on the vaccination rate.

“If you believe in the effectiveness of the reasons why we have worked so hard all these months, and challenged, asked, begged, begged people to get vaccinated, we are in a place right now where we need to do it’s not, ”Blangiardi said.

Even though not everyone in the family can attend, the coaches and players are at least ready to step onto the playing field after a long pandemic hiatus.

“So it doesn’t matter if the fans are here this week or from next week, it doesn’t matter at this point,” said Carvalho, whose Red Raiders travel to Kapolei for their game. opening of the season.

“It’s just taking the opportunity that we have the chance to play this Friday.”

Dino Maragay – Philstar.com

October 13, 2021 | 11:23

MANILA, Philippines – The sports website of ESPN5, one of the leading sports information portals in the Philippines, closed its operations on Wednesday morning.

This was confirmed by some of the website staff in a series of posts on Twitter.

As of March 2020, ESPN International did not renew its content partnership agreement with TV5 / Cignal, prompting the latter to rename its sports channel to One Sports and remove ESPN5 brand programming from its programming.

The partnership continued online, however, as tv5.espn.com remained operational with local sports news until staff members confirmed they were severing ties with the website on Tuesday evening.

While the tv5.espn.com website remains live at time of publication, it is now devoid of local content.

A source who requested anonymity said Philstar.com that plans are underway to launch a standalone One Sports website but have yet to be executed.

TV5’s partnership with ESPN became official on October 12, 2017, with the former acquiring the domestic rights to some of the latter’s US and international shows. These include boxing matches on ESPN Classic, races on the IndyCar series, and select NFL games, including highly anticipated Super Bowl games.

CHARLOTTE Retired Carolina Panthers player Brenton Bersin and his team are launching a new Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) app, “Outlast Daily Fantasy Sports”. The new app gives fans a simple, no-commitment way to participate in the DFS phenomenon without worrying about season-long rosters, salary caps, or seasoned sharks.

The app’s trio of games features the first over/under survival pool game in DFS. “Outlast” also has the highest prize multipliers and the most player and sports options to choose from while playing. Players can choose between an easy mode and a pro mode in “Outlast”; the easy mode offers a simplified interface for beginners, which allows new players to understand the basics of games and payments without layers of complexity.

“Our goal is to open the world of everyday fantasy sports to a wider range of sports fans,” said Bersin, co-founder of Outlast. “I noticed a lot of my friends loved the thrill of having a fantasy team or filling a basketball bracket, but then shunned the big daily fantasy sports apps because they thought it was too much of a hassle. , was time-consuming and didn’t want to have to compete against the experts, so we designed our app and games to be more accessible and customizable to player preferences,” he continued.

The application is available for free in Apple App store and on the website for Android users. “Outlast” offers a 100% first deposit match on new accounts, up to $200 per person.

“Outlast” launches with three signature games:

  • The main game “Outlast” is an “Over/Under” single-player challenge where people compete against themselves. They choose a sport, specific games, and then determine if the athletes will perform better or worse than the expert projections. If the person makes three correct choices, they can claim their prize or advance their winnings.
  • “Outlast Survivor Pool” is DFS’s first and only over/under survivor pool where you compete against other players in the pool size and entry fee of your choice.
  • ‘Outlast Purse’ (Coming Soon) is a weekly golf pool with options to play against the public or to play in private pools run commission-free by ‘Outlast’.

“Outlast” is led by Bersin and supported by a team of experts, including co-founder Ehimere Etomi. Current and former professional athletes, including PGA TOUR Mackenzie Hughes and Major League Baseball Wil Myers, are the founding investors of the company.

A look at a baseball game at Backyard Baseball

If you were a kid and owned a computer in the late 90s and early 2000s, chances are you’ve played at least one of the Backyard Sports games. It was fun and there was a lot of charm that made it a solid series.

The series has been MIA, however, but perhaps due to publishers’ stranglehold on sports licensing that the latest games have relied heavily on. It’s a shame too because kids these days will never know the greatness of Pablo Sanchez, arguably the best character to choose for a team.

SSX 3's Allegra does it all for a high altitude trick

Lots of snowboarding games have made solid video games, but the undisputed king of snowboarding games is, without a doubt, the SSX series. With its arcade-like gameplay, unique and quirky characters, great soundtracks, and great tips, few games have been able to garner as much appeal as SSX.

With Ubisoft having Steep and the upcoming Riders Republic under its belt, EA is expected to relaunch the series to compete with it. After all, we saw what a modern SSX game would look like with the 2012 release, which showed that the series can still be great while turning things around.

2 NBA Jam Series

Scottie Pippen Goes For A Dunk In Arcade Version Of NBA Jam

In terms of true arcade-type sports, few have managed to achieve the level of popularity of NBA Jam. NBA Jam pitted your choice of two players from one of the NBA teams against another duo as you faced off on the field.

Not afraid to have a little fun at the expense of realism, the game lets you hit gravity-defying dunks and play as some really weird special characters while doing so. Did you know you can play as Bill and Hillary Clinton in any of the games? With modern graphics and NBA players continuing to change the game, it would be fun to see how they fare in an NBA Jam-like environment.

1 Punch-Out Series

Mike Tyson mocks the player in Mike Tyson's Punch Out

A boxing game and a sports game like no other. Even decades after Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out released on NES, it remains one of the best sports games of all time. In Punch-Out, you play as underdog boxer Little Mac as he tries to become the world champion of the fictional World Video Boxing Association (WVBA).

Mac faces a number of different opponents who seemingly get more wacky than the previous one. Finding the tricks to take out each boxer added an element of strategy to the game that really makes you think of fighting. Despite Little Mac’s appearance in Super Smash Bros., there hasn’t been a new game since 2009. Punch-Out was definitely long overdue for a sequel and revival.

Could sporting events soon be broadcast in 3D?

By Sports events

The Unity video game engine is embarking on a major project, ready to revolutionize the broadcasting of sporting events. To offer a more immersive experience, the firm uses real-time 3D rendering to bring viewers even closer to the action.

Chances are, Unity is about to lead a revolution in sporting events broadcasting. In any case, it seems that a new era could be upon us.

By unveiling Metacast, a new technology that aims to capture and analyze the movement of athletes in real time, Unity wants to shake up the entire industry. A first collaboration took place with the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) to present the technology. A short video shows how this can bring viewers closer to the action, from different angles.

The benefits are manifold for athletes, spectators, analysts and sponsors. Unity hopes to run its system on more than 20 platforms. And it has been tested with other sports, like MMA (mixed martial arts), rugby, and basketball.

These new tools can help better analyze the movements and actions of players to learn more about their technique. Indeed, there is no doubt that the coaching teams will know how to make the most of this technology.

Then there is the idea of being able to create interactive and dynamic content to reach viewers. This could involve the use of green screens to embed advertisements in real time.

During this time, spectators will enjoy an ever more complete experience, bringing them closer to the performances of the athletes.

Metacast is similar to another competing technology: Intel’s 2019 True View. Between the two, the big difference lies in the possibility of being able to achieve 3D rendering in real time.

In an interview with GamesBeat, Peter Moore, senior vice president of sports and live entertainment at Unity, said that by capturing athletes in real time, the company hopes to allow broadcasters to use imagery to get started. into “a new era of live sports”. .

This new technology allows viewers to switch to a first-person view, at least in the UFC, so they can put themselves in the shoes of a fighter facing their opponent.

In terms of technical details, the system is based on a volumetric capture of approximately five million voxels per second. A voxel is a three-dimensional pixel. In terms of quality, the rendering sometimes appears a little limited, but the images will undoubtedly improve over time.

Like you’re in the ring

So how does it work? Unity uses cameras to scan athletes’ bodies using 3D volumetric rendering technology. It involves capturing, visualizing, and interacting with the real world – whether it’s moving people or static objects – and all in three dimensions.

From there, the magic happens and the content can be viewed from any angle, anytime, as if you were truly in the ring. On the hardware side of the capture system, Unity is working with partners like Microsoft and Canon, before taking over for the 3D rendering side.

“Sports fans love to analyze the action at every level of detail,” said Peter Moore. “It’s the first time you’ve seen this level of resolution in three-dimensional visuals. We are lowering about five million voxels. We render and edit, then we can compute that in real time, push it to the cloud, and then send it to broadcasters. We see the first opportunity with the UFC, which is perfect for that as it’s a controlled environment in the octagon.

Watch out for a revolution, soon available in the live sports experience. – AFP Relaxnews

Upcoming combat sports events including Fury and Wilder –

By Sports events

Boxing, MMA, and hand-to-hand fighting have seen big months. These sports are on the rise thanks to some of the biggest fights in recent years. Last month, heavyweight hub Anthony Joshua was dethroned by smaller Usyk. Now Oleksandr Usyk is gearing up for bigger and tougher competitors. However, Joshua is eager to secure the rematch. While the fight was fantastic, better fights are ahead. For example, fans will be excited to watch this weekend’s battle between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder. Below, readers will learn more about the biggest combat sports events to come.

Fury & Wilder 3

Boxing is well known for its intense rivalries. Over the years, he thrived on these rivalries. Some of the best include Ali and Frazier, Morales and Barrera, and Marquez and Pacquiao. In these battles, the men put everything on the line in the hope of proving that they were the best. These rivalries have helped create some of the best boxing matches in history. Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder have fought twice already. The first fight was controversial as it ended in a decision that many fans disagreed with. Many agree that Fury took the lead until he was knocked down in the 12e tower. Nonetheless, Fury stepped onto the canvas. Wilder’s team believed the fight was over at this point. The fight ended in a controversial toss. In the second fight, Fury weighed 273 pounds. He admitted to putting on weight so that he could eliminate his opponent. He wasted no time as he defeated Wilder early in the fight.

Nonetheless, Deontay stood up and continued to fight. Fury would be too much for his opponent. Fury dominated Wilder from bell to bell until the fight was stopped in the 7e tower. Wilder’s corner had to throw in the towel to protect his fighter. Since then, Fury has been trying to set up a British showdown against Anthony Joshua. However, this will not happen. In May 2021, an arbitration judge ruled that Fury should honor his contractual clause and give Wilder a third fight. The rise of the fight has been spectacular with a lot of chatter from both sides. The fight will take place this weekend. It is a must have for any fan of the sport.

BKFC Montana

Despite some ups and downs, Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is quickly gaining ground. Fortunately, the organization is back with another event this weekend. This should be good as it features a showdown between veteran MMA Melvin Guillard and Joe Riggs. MMA fans will remember both fighters for having fought multiple times in the UFC. Riggs last fought against Hector Lombard and lost due to a controversial TKO. He will try to pick up the pieces when he faces Guillard. As for Melvin, he also experienced controversy.

In a fight, he was stopped when he was hit while on the ground. Then he was disqualified for hitting an opponent on the ground. Both men need a win. Therefore, it should be a big fight. Other fights on the card include Christine Ferea, Josh Wright, Tom Shoaff, and Taylor Starling. After the fans stop playing , they should watch the next BKFC show. They will not be disappointed.

UFC 267

Although the UFC has events leading up to UFC 267, most of them aren’t going to get fans excited. The next 267 event is expected. It has an exciting main event and a large co-main event. During the main event, light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz will face aging brawler Glover Teixeira. Although both men are older, they only get better with age. Glover has won five fights with victories over Anthony Smith, Thiago Santos and Karl Roberson.

He will have his arms full with the light heavyweight champion. Jan is also on a five-game winning streak, but he’s had to face some thinking competition. Surprisingly, he lost to Thiago Santos before beating Luke Rockhold, Ronaldo Souza, Corey Anderson, Dominick Reyes and Israel Adesanya. The fight should be interesting since the two men always come to fight. UFC 267 also faces a fight between former champ Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen. Dan Hooker will face Island Makhachev. It should be one of the best UFC events of the year, so it’s worth checking out.

Quarantines put an end to some school sports games | News, Sports, Jobs

By Sports games

TUPPER LAKE – Quarantines fill a gap in high school athletic programs this year.

The Tupper Lake football team is in the midst of a period where games are postponed or canceled due to COVID-19 exposures inside and outside the district.

Last week’s game against Weedsport was called off because the Lumberjacks were unable to field enough players.

“A large part of our football team was in quarantine”, Tupper Lake Central School District Russ Bartlett said.

He said a group of players were in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 and had to self-isolate.

Tupper Lake has a smaller roster of football teams, which TLCSD athletic director Dan Brown says gives them less “flexibility” when there is a quarantine.

Football is a “high risk” sports for the transmission of the virus, according to the State Department of Health, as players are exposed and in close contact with each other.

All of the Tupper Lake squad came out of quarantine on Friday, Bartlett said, but the teams they are expected to play in the next few days have canceled or postponed their games for various reasons. Friday’s home game against the Thousand Islands Central School District was called off because the visiting team did not have enough players.

There are a variety of factors that can cancel or reschedule a match: Athletes quarantined on either team, or even bus drivers need to be quarantined. Sometimes they have days of notice, Brown said, sometimes hours.

He said TLCSD canceled all sports games and training for two days last week as the football team was quarantined.

Brown said that sometimes team morale is high because they feel united working through adversity. Sometimes morale is low as last minute changes and cancellations become frustrating.

Brown said tension was high as people dealt with sports stoppages. Each county handles quarantines differently, leading to some frustration, he said. Bartlett urged athletes and parents of athletes to be calm, kind, and reasonable.

The next TLCSD college football game on the schedule is Oct. 16 against the New York Mills Union Free School District at 1 p.m. ET.

Daily Fantasy Sports app launched for casual sports fans |

By Sports app

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, October 8, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Retired Carolina Panthers player Brenton Bersin and the team are launching a new Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) app, “Outlast ™ Daily Fantasy Sports”. The new app gives fans a simple, no-obligation way to participate in the DFS phenomenon without worrying about season rosters, salary caps or seasoned sharks.

The retired NFL wide receiver launches the Outlast DFS app to appeal to casual sports fans.

The app’s trio of games includes the first over / under survival pool game in DFS. “Outlast” also has the highest price multipliers and the most player and sport options to choose from while playing. Players can choose between easy mode and pro mode in “Outlast”; Easy Mode features a streamlined interface for beginners, which allows new players to understand the basics of games and payouts without layers of complexity.

“Our goal is to open up the world of everyday fantasy sports to a wider range of sports fans,” said Bersin, co-founder of Outlast. “I noticed a lot of my friends liked the thrill of having a fantasy team or filling out a basketball rack, but then avoided the big everyday fantasy sports apps because they thought it was. Too complicated, time consuming and didn’t want to have to compete against experts, so we designed our app and games to be more accessible and customizable to player preferences, ”he continued.

The application is available for free in Apple App store and on the website for Android users. “Outlast” offers 100% first deposit match on new accounts, up to $ 200 per person.

“Outlast” is launched with three signature games:

  • The main game of “Outlast” is a single player “Over / Under” challenge where people compete against each other. They choose a sport, specific games, and then determine whether the athletes will perform better or worse than expert projections. If the person makes three correct choices, they can claim their prize or carry over their winnings.
  • “Outlast Survivor Pool” is the first and only over / under survivor pool in DFS where you compete against other players in any pool size and entry fee of your choice.
  • “Outlast Purse” (coming soon) is a weekly golf pool with options to play against the public or to play in private pools managed without commission by “Outlast”.

“Outlast” is led by Bersin and supported by a team of experts, including co-founder Ehimere Etomi. Current and former professional athletes, including the PGA TOUR Mackenzie hughes and Major League Baseball Wil myers, are the founding investors of the company.

Students get insight into major sporting events

By Sports events

Nicole Schuermann and Ryan Batawala were grateful for having had the opportunity to work at a large-scale event, the induction ceremony for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

By Rick Vacek
CUU Information Office

For Nicole schuermann, it started when she was going to Arizona Diamondbacks games with her family and one day proclaimed, “I could be the commissioner of baseball.”

Ryan Batawala (left) and Nicole Schuermann have made memories of their trip to the Basketball Hall of Fame.

For Ryan batawalaHe has his roots in basketball and rooting for the Los Angeles Lakers while growing up in Garden Grove, California.

For Skylar Aprati, it came from a determination to get involved in the sport in one way or another, even when injuries prevented him from playing.

Three Grand Canyon University students, three avenues in the sports business world – and two hugely rewarding trips to major sporting events on the East Coast.

Schuermann and Batawala were chosen to work on Enshrinement Weekend for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts on September 10 and 11, a trip made possible through GCU’s partnerships with the Hall of Fame and Position Sports. Aprati spent 14 grueling but exhilarating days working at the US Open tennis tournament in late August and early September in New York City.

All three returned with stories to tell and memories they will cherish – including some that may survive, affixed to the wall of a future office.

Schuermann, a senior specializing in sports management, had previously volunteered at events in the valley, such as Hoophall West and the Colangelo Classic.

The entire Hall of Fame weekend featured a who’s who in the basketball world in stylish settings.

But she wanted to do more. Thus, when the members of the Sports Business Club were invited this summer by a Colangelo Business College (CCOB) instructor, founder of Position Sports Kevin foley, to apply for the Basketball Hall of Fame, she jumped on it.

Applicants were required to submit a PowerPoint slide explaining their qualifications, and she and Batawala were chosen from a group of 15.

It was a dream weekend. They flew east that Thursday, attended the media session and gala on Friday, and then went backstage on Saturday for the actual ceremony. It was so much more than the flight and the venue and being surrounded by famous people. It was the aura of it all put together.

“Being able to attend an event of this magnitude before I even graduate and see if it’s even something that interests me was amazing,” said Schuermann.

“When I signed up for Sports Business I thought I would have hands-on activities because that’s what the advisors told us – GCU is all about practice. But then to be able to take a trip like this and see this – that was crazy. “

Schuermann was fascinated by several aspects of the experience, especially the media session.

Madness was there on her helmet when she served as a runner, handing the microphone to members of the media as they questioned the inductees. She liked the way Dr Mark Clifford, deputy dean of the CCOB and director of athletic affairs, described it: It’s like watching a duck glide through water – it’s seemingly serene above the surface but paddling furiously below.

The big moment for Batawala was the gala. He was able to be backstage and was the first person to congratulate the inductees and direct them to a photoshoot as they left the stage.

“We were really in the thick of it with the real talent,” he said. “So it was an opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at what it really means to work with professional athletes in their day-to-day lives, especially at a time that is so special to them.”

One of the inductees was Paul Pierce, a star with the Boston Celtics in their battles with the beloved Batawala Lakers.

“I grew up playing basketball,” Batawala said. “Being in the presence of some of the greatest athletes of my generation, the people that I watched grow up, was really something that blew me away.”

GCU students worked closely with the Position Sports team – Alex carlson, creative coordinator; Ashley Orozco, Events coordinator; and Melissa Meacham-Grossman, Senior Vice President of Business Strategy and Development. And that led to the best time of all.

As Schuermann and Batawala strolled with Carlson through the Hall of Fame Lobby on the day of the inductions, they ran into Jerry Colangelo, namesake of the GCU business school. Carlson introduced them, and it made for a memorable conversation and even more memorable photo with Colangelo.

The photo Batawala cherishes – him and Schuermann posing with Jerry Colangelo.

“He was super inviting. It was a pleasure to chat with him, ”said Batawala, a junior specializing in sports management. “He’s someone we idolized at our club for helping build what Arizona sports are like today. Being able to talk to him and choose his brain is an incredible opportunity, and this photo will someday be. hanging in my office It’s a moment I’ll never forget.

“It was a time when you are amazed and don’t even know what to say or think. You’re just like, ‘Wow, this is really happening.’ Being able to interact with him and show him that GCU has promising young sports professionals was something that was great for me.

Aprati is also part of the Sports Business Club, but specializes in communication and specializes in sports management. She decided this summer that she needed some experience at a professional event and targeted the US Open, in part because she had watched major tennis tournaments with her father, Brian Aprati, for so many years while growing up in Bolingbrook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.

Skylar Aprati worked long hours at the US Open, but said she “wouldn’t trade it for anything.”

She had a phone interview with officials at the US Open, then a follow-up interview with Zoom, and she was there. His reward: working at one of the entrances, welcoming guests, giving them directions and suggesting good dining options, for 10 hours a day, 14 days in a row.

And even …

“I wouldn’t trade it for anything,” she said. “It was so much fun.”

It was her first time attending a professional tennis event, and she was even able to peek inside and watch some of the action. She had played tennis avidly in her youth before a broken ankle ended all dreams of continuing (“Tennis didn’t love me as much as I loved it”), then graduated from volleyball. in high school before a torn rotator cuff forced him to think about coaching rather than playing.

Luckily, he was offered a job as a student coach with his club team. “It sparked my love for the sport,” she said. The result is that she got involved in volleyball at a higher level and that in June she was responsible for the retail sales for the Junior Nationals Volleyball Championships at Navy Pier in Chicago.

Her career goal: She would like to do sports communication. “I’m not really against any sport,” she said. “Any sport is enough for me. Maybe even in baseball – she hopes to gain some experience in spring training next year.

Like the Hall of Fame, the US Open site is top notch.

Schuermann, on the other hand, is focused on event planning and possibly community outreach in the world of sports – if she doesn’t become Commissioner of Baseball, of course.

It started out as a joke, she said, but the more she thought about it the more excited she was to work in the sport in some capacity. And what would she do if she was a commissioner? The answer shouldn’t come as a surprise.

“Make sure they give back to the community,” she said. “Make sure we have a bunch of community outreach because we have to reach out to little kids. “

This is also what it is all about for sports business students: reaching out. Schuermann’s advice for any student who is hesitant to volunteer for an event, big or small.

“I would say definitely apply, even if you think you’re never going to get it,” she said. “Just by sending it, you went one step further than a lot of people. We never know. An experience like this could be the difference between deciding what you want to do in sports.

It could also be the first of many good memories.

Wales Introduces Mandatory Covid Pass for Nightclubs and Sporting Events | Welsh politics

By Sports events

The Welsh government’s controversial plans to introduce a mandatory Covid pass for nightclubs and major sporting events will continue after the To send supported the regime by the narrowest margins.

The Labor-led government has argued that the pass, which was due to go into effect on Monday, was necessary to bring down worrying rates of Covid-19 infection, especially among young people in Wales.

They claimed the program would ease pressure on the NHS and help keep premises such as clubs open this winter. They accuse those who oppose it of “blatant irresponsibility”.

On Tuesday evening, the Tories, Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Democrats all voted against the move, but the plan was passed by 28 to 27 votes.

Announcing the pass last month, Premier of Wales Mark Drakeford said he was determined to take stronger action, sooner, than the UK government in England, calling for measures that are part of the Boris Johnson’s “plan B”, such as a Covid pass and working from home, were in his “plan A”.

Drakeford dismissed the idea that the program was a vaccination passport in everything but the name, pointing out that it would be possible to get the Welsh pass by passing a lateral flow test.

A crowd of a few hundred people, some protesting the scheme – and some anti-vaccines – gathered outside the Senedd in Cardiff Bay ahead of the debate.

Health Minister Eluned Morgan said Covid cases were on the rise across Wales, particularly among young people, with rates for those under 25 of around 1,000 per 100,000 people. Morgan said these are the people most likely to go to places such as nightclubs. She said keeping those sites open had not been an easy decision in light of such high Covid rates. “We are facing some of the highest rates we have seen since the start of the pandemic. We have to do something to stop the turbo charge.

Morgan said the pressure on hospitals was steadily increasing. “There is a need to take early action to avoid longer-term damage. Scientists tell us to act early, to act now. Every day we hesitate, these rates are rising and we will put more pressure on the NHS. Not supporting this measure will be an act of blatant irresponsibility. “

Russell George, the shadow Welsh Conservative health minister, argued that the introduction of a vaccine ‘passport’ would lead to Wales becoming a checkpoint society.

Rhun ap Iorwerth, Plaid Cymru spokesperson for health and social services, said it was not clear how police could check to see if people were tampering with lateral flow tests and feared this would deter young people to get vaccinated.

Liberal Democrat Jane Dodds said she believed Covid’s passports were an “assault on liberty and liberty,” and added that the National Autistic Society had communicated her concerns to her.

The Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), which represents 100 sites in Wales, said the passes were “a significant obstacle” to its operations. He argued that operators could not afford the additional resources and logistical challenges that a Covid pass would create.

The Covid pass vote, in the Senedd on Tuesday, was itself criticized as controversial because a conservative MS was unable to vote due to an issue with his Zoom link.

NTIA Wales called for a new vote. “It is a democratic outrage that a member state which wanted to vote and which would have voted against the proposals, could not because of a simple technical error”, declared a spokesperson. “This mess will create even more uncertainty for our businesses.”

During the pandemic, South Florida was one of the nation’s most desirable locations, whether it was for the migration of the financial and tech industries, or for vacationers keen to enjoy our sunny shores. It is to the credit of how our region has adapted and prospered in the face of unprecedented circumstances. As we continue to rebound, we can learn valuable lessons from the many successes our community has had over the past two years.

For example, we saw championship-level post-season football last January in Miami when the Orange Bowl Committee (OBC) successfully hosted the 87th Capital One Orange Bowl and spearheaded the host committee’s efforts for it. 2021 National College Football Playoff Championship, both at the spectacular Hard Stade du Rocher.

These two national sporting events, while scaled down to meet pandemic response requirements, demonstrate the impact that successful major events can have, when they take an approach that follows health and safety guidelines.

Financial impact

Hosting approximately 30,000 fans generated more than 20,000 hotel nights and grossed over $ 40 million in direct spending in South Florida. The games also delivered full publicity for Miami and South Florida, reaching over 26 million viewers, and there were no significant health issues thanks to careful planning and careful adherence to protocols.

Beyond the economic impact, there were also the positive community benefits of the events. For example, nearly $ 3 million in renovations transformed 23 South Florida school multimedia centers into technology-rich innovation spaces that will impact thousands of students for years to come.

While the start of a new football season has been greeted with fanfare and fervor with stadiums at full capacity, we cannot take for granted all that we have been through as we continue to tackle the challenges of the pandemic. . As a region, we must remain vigilant and flexible. This is not said as a platitude, but as a foresight from an organization that has been instrumental in organizing major community events for nearly nine decades.

South Florida Heritage

Since 1935, South Florida has become the premier destination for hosting premier college playoff football games. Our ability to continue to build that legacy rests squarely on community collaboration and partnership to host marquee events, and always focusing on what’s best for South Florida.

It is this commitment that we will make as we host the 2021 College Football Playoff Semifinals at the Capital One Orange Bowl on December 31 at Hard Rock Stadium. And that’s an area we’ll be looking at even more when college football management considers future post-season models. We are confident that this track record positions the Orange Bowl and South Florida favorably to maintain our level one bowl status in post-season college football and to host many other College Football Nationals over the years. future.

Likewise, as our region looks forward to a bright future for many major events, we must share the goal of ensuring that every event planner, convention planner or leisure traveler concludes that the south of the Florida knows how to provide its visitors with a safe, comfortable and entertaining experience. As evidenced by our successes since last March, we know South Florida will continue to raise its level of play.
